So many classics left for round 10 guys. I just looked over my personal movie collection and have 5 or 6 I might be voting for. :)

Pick 9

The Adventures of Robin Hood - Michael Curtiz and William Keighley
Yeah, that was the one I wanted but couldn't pick. Had no idea the director of Casablanca also did Robin Hood. Great pick, Errol Flynn rules.

The Count of Monte Cristo

You know, I could have picked a variety of movies: Batman Begins, M, Total Recall, Syriana, Airplane, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Rambo First Blood, Rocky 1,2 or 4. and so many more awesome movies that haven't been picked yet! Damn high-brow GAF is missing some awesome classics!! Count of Monte Cristo gets my final vote because literally EVERY time I go through my Apple TV list of movies, there is always at least a temptation to watch it. It is one of few movies that I can watch several times a year and never get tired of it. I have read all 4 volumes of the novel and love the book as well. I don't care that this isn't the most true adaptation of all time, but I LOVE IT.

Hey Vox, I was going through your rules again and just noticed that you wrote that Woody Allen directed What's New Pussycat? even though he just wrote it like how he only wrote Play it Again Sam and the older version of Don't Drink the Water.

His Girl Friday - Howard Hawks

Considered:
The Follow - Wong Kar-wai (part of The Hire series of short films done for BMW)
Very Bad Things - Peter Berg
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead - Tom Stoppard

Vox-Pop

Contains Sucralose
Bourne Supremacy - Paul Greengrass

Screw you both Wes and CajoleJuice.

Hmmm, I always thought Woody Allen directed What's New Pussycat....you learn something everyday.

All three Bourne films picked. Best trilogy ever confirmed.

With action ruined by shakycam. :( The first one's action > other 2 combined! Awesome movies, terribly filmed action sequences

I personally didn't mind the shaky camera. I'm not into action movies, but I enjoyed the Bourne trilogy, great scenery imo.

The Private Eyes - Michael Hui

other potentials:
La Haine - Mathieu Kassovitz
Rushmore - Wes Anderson
Milennium Actress - Satoshi Kon
Pi - Darren Aronofsky

wow, didn't know that Rushmore was still available. Given GAf's love affair with Wes Andersen, I would've thought this would've gone already. :)

I was considering it but man, 400 Blows still was up for grabs. This was the only time I thought I should grab something only because it would be completely disgraceful if it wasn't picked. I decided to go with mostly favorites with this draft.

My other considerations for the 10th round:
Babe
Sweet Movie
Blue
Double Life of Veronique
Gummo
Happiness
The Thin Man
Tokyo Story
Good Morning
The Decalogue
Discreet Charm of the Burqoiuse

10. The Prince of Egypt - Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner, Simon Wells

It was between this and ROCKY for me. Then somebody chose ROCKY.

I just remembered one I would rather list instead of my current pick for 10. Am I allowed to edit it?

Nope. If you do, someone else could pick your pick but then someone else could have picked that pick earlier if they had the chance and then it would be just a giant mess.

But only one person picked since I picked it! Besides, nobody was going to pick The Prince of Egypt.

Oh yeah, I guess so. I doubt someone picking a sadcore Swedish film for his final pick was secretly craving for a Dreamworks cartoon but said, "God damn it Schulli, I guess I will stick with this masterpiece."

PM Vox and see what he says.

I'll wait a day for the rest of morning-afternoon GAF to get their picks done, then I'll make the first elimination thread on Friday.

great picks everyone. i know there are still a few people out there who have yet to complete their list, but here are some of the movies i had a hard time getting to adding on my list (that weren't already chosen of course):

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
Dances With Wolves
The Manchurian Candidate (Original)
Minority Report
Vanilla Sky
Heima
Woodstock
Mystic River
Million Dollar Baby
Blow

What happens exactly? I'm guessing there will be 10 threads where people vote on each rounds' picks?

The elimination thread will go something like this:

Draft Battle one

cmonmanreally
vs.
Scullibundo

------------------------

Draft Battle two

Vox-Pop
vs.
AlternativeUlster

People will look at the list of movies each drafters has chosen and will pick a winner.
Then the winners will move on to the 2nd elimination thread.

Draft Battle one
--------------------
AlternativeUlster
vs.
Scullibundo

as so on....

I was thinking about having a three person draft battle, since there's a lot drafters, it will help speed up the eliminations. How do you guys feel about this????

Well, I was going to go with Michael Mann's Collateral, but after vomiting in my mouth with the Bourne love in, I must retort:

#10 - Casino Royale (Campbell, 2006)

:D

On another note, there are some interesting choices in this thread. Some lists are almost 100% arthouse, some are almost 100% blockbusters, and everything in between.

I guess I'm glad its not voted round by round. I have a feeling I would be out by the 5th since almost everybody I have asked (except for a few select film students) have never heard of One Hundred and One Nights.

My pick for #9:

M - Fritz Lang

My pick for #10:

The Wild Bunch - Sam Peckinpah
sorry, already taken....

The Wizard of Oz - Victor Fleming

Barely missing the cut for my top 10:

To Be or Not To Be - Ernst Lubitsch
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Sergio Leone
Notorious - Alfred Hitchcock
Touch of Evil - Orson Welles
Stalker - Andrei Tarkovski
The Battle of Algiers - Gillo Pontecorvo
