:lol

I didn't think anybody else would want to pick it. It was between this and another one I'm holding off on, hoping nobody else will pick. So I guess I'm lucky I got it out.

That was actually a front runner for my Billy Wilder pick, but when I chose my Wilder film I was thinking my list might end up a bit too dark. (I already had a noir at that point as well)

My pick for #6:

The Searchers - John Ford

Easily one of America's greatest filmmakers, Ford delivers here in spades. His vistavision/technicolor capturing of Utah's Monument Valley is breathtaking, and provides for an easy recommendation based on this alone. The story, and strong performances, led by John Wayne, are a substantive bonus. If this isn't the greatest American western ever made, it surely can see the front of the line from where it stands.

My pick for #7:

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Robert Wiene

It's obviously no secret that I love silent movies. This one, impressively filmed by Wiene, feels like an LSD trip without buying the drugs. It's also quite fun to watch, as it provides a feeling of uneasiness throughout. Give it a try, with the lights out....

My pick for #8:

Double Indemnity - Billy Wilder

Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson are all fabulous and, in particular, believable in their respective roles which, to me, has always been the most significant component in noir type films. The story is wonderfully revealed, sprinkled with a bit of humor to ease the tension and this serves to heighten the impact of the drama as it unfolds. There are other terrific noir films, to be sure, but none in my estimation are better than this one....

Bastard! That was quite possibly my next pick! I even misspelled Peter Weir's last name to throw people off of the scent!
CajoleJuice knew it was your pic--angry that someone took his pick--he decided to take your pick out of spite. :p JK

The last round is tomorrow!

@CajoleJuice, your list is quality :) I am lucky to have been choosing so early as the rounds begin, I believe. :)

Round 9: The Wild Bunch - Sam Peckinpah

I wanted a western in my list, and I was going endlessly between this and the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. (because most of my favorite spaghetti westerns were taken) The Great Silence was a distant third.

So, if this is a bracket style March Madness kind of tournament, how are the first round match ups decided?
