On one hand I doubt anyone else will pick this... on the other, I just can't take that chance any longer:

You'll get a vote from me because of this, even if one, possibly two, of your previous picks make me want to not vote for you. ;)

I just know that some poor soul is going to see his list and get the idea to watch Barry Lyndon.

OK, Speed Racer (not even really in my top ten, but I was feeling frisky), but what's the other one??

This almost makes me want to stop liking you even though you like Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

(then again, Barry Lyndon is 3rd after 2001 and Strangelove on my Kub's list, but those were already picked)

Ok, here are my missing picks #3 - #5:

#3 Army of Darkness - Sam Raimi
#4 They Live! - John Carpenter
#5 The Beauty and the Beast - Gary Trousdale & Kirk Wise

AlternativeUlster

Absolutely pathetic part deux

Yeah everyone knows that Full Metal Jacket is the shit film from his filmography. I think for the film Movie Draft I am picking more of my favorites than what I think others think are great films. Also, no one has picked any films on my list either.

I am just truly wondering if you guys are going for movies you think will impress others or just your favorite films... I have seen a good deal of these movies and some of them are just plain ol' bad. :p

Of course some people must hate my safe picks, but I am just going for my favorite films of all-time (obviously with many that have been taken already)

It is going to be fun to see the end results of the draft and then to start Netflixing all the movies I have yet to see. :)

People have different tastes?

All the ones I've picked so far are personal favorites. And I intend to keep it that way.

We get it-- you have a hard time sitting through films made before the 70's.

Here is my pick #4:

The Battleship Potemkin - Sergei Eisenstein

This movie laid the groundwork for all action movies which would follow. Told in a brisk 70 minutes, it builds at an intense and almost breathtaking pace. Eisenstein was a true genius, and this is his best work. On a more humorous note for GAF, if you've ever been blessed with a montage, thank Eisenstein, it was one of his most noted film lexicon additions....

And for #5:

The Passion of Joan of Arc - Carl Theodor Dreyer

Unflinchingly filmed almost entirely in close ups, this film contains what many would argue is the single greatest performance ever given in film history; that of Maria Falconetti as Joan. I've seen this movie at least a dozen times, and each time, I've thought about it for days afterward. No other movie has continually affected me like this one....

You're doing a good job getting my vote, too, tekumseh.

Actually, many of my pre-70's favs were already taken

North by Northwest, Citizen Kane, Metropolis and The Third Man are all in my top 10, as well as many other close ones that other people have already taken. I am just surprised by some of the choices here. Shows how different opinions can be because some of the films I had heard about growing up and some of the late-released ones I see people choosing have bored me to tears nearly.

I will rescind one of my comments, though, most people have chosen amazing movies and the list as a whole right now is incredibly stellar.

ElectricBlue187 you need one more pick, you skipped the third round.

Man, I've only seen about 1/3 of the movies listed. :/

What is the draw of TAoJJbtCRF?

I sincerely ask this of its fans. I rented it right when it came out, disappointed I couldn't see it in theatres and was completely and utterly disappointed. The film's pacing to me felt so laborious and drawn out between scenes. Beautifully shot, but the pacing seemed equal to The New World or the Thin Red Line in the slowness category. Perhaps I am getting old and my attention span is shortening because for only the 4th time in my life that I can remember, I actually fell asleep while watching this movie. There was nothing to draw me in about this movie at all. :(

Is it the cinematography? The gradual hardening of Robert Ford and animosity towards Jesse James at his lax attitude? Dialogue? I couldn't feel this movie for some reason.

I am excited to watch Le Samourai tonight as I have never seen it but have heard tons of praise from it from pretty much everyone. I hope it doesn't turn out to be like Blood Simple in the hype department

I haven't seen Blood Simple so I can't compare the two, but Le Samourai is a great film nonetheless. It's not deep on story but it has great scope and suspense.

I submit my Round 5 pick a bit ( 4 minutes) early as I have to be away from my computer for the night

Fletch - Michael Ritchie

Still picking favorites :)

Not sure which Godard is my fav, so I'll just go with:

Breathless - Jean-Luc Godard

I've masturbated to this movie before, not even kidding.

too much?

The close-ups of the actress are just so intense and full of life, I can't be the only one to ever be turned on by them.

Pick 6

Aguirre, the Wrath of God - Werner Herzog
I knew someone would pick this eventually if I didn't, though I'm not too bothered. There are several films from my favorite director who will serve just as nicely in my list.

In the Mood for Love (2000) - Wong Kar-Wai
