That sounds like quite the podcast... apart from attributing Chrono Trigger to Konami in the tl!
I will agree that the US is a bit of a wasteland for EDM but it's still a helluva lot better than it was a few years ago, at least in NYC. In the city, you can find interesting shows devoted to nearly every genre of EDM, we get all the big names - for instance this weekend Guy Gerber / Lee Curtiss / Guti / Deniz Kurzel are playing a yacht party (highly considering going, huge fan of Gerber and Guti is the coolest person ever!), there's also the Mister Saturday Night/Mister Sunday parties... but a few years ago, clubs were increasingly being targeted by the authorities, closing down as soon as they would pop up, and this would really hurt the scene (many people think the passing of the RAVE act in the early 2000's put the kibosh on dance music's late 90's burgeoning popularity in the states - and I can totally see why. Since so many people get exposed to less mainstream EDM via raves, or clubs). We have the superclubs to attract all the guidos, and there are enough alternatives to lure casual-EDM-fan trendy hipsters away, so most of the enthusiast dance events are attended by those who are really serious about the music.
I'm just happy I don't get confused stares when I tell people I listen to "house music" anymore (of course, they don't know I more likely mean Maceo Plex or Todd Terje than I do Calvin Harris or David Guetta). Try doing that in 1999, I think I freaked someone out when I told them I was currently listening to 'trance' on my discman
And I'm happy that people don't automatically consider anything with a 4x4 beat "techno" anymore. I think I got sick of explaining that techno is a specific subgenre of EDM the 41,000th time.
