Back from Warrior's Dance Festival in Belgrade. HOLY SHIT.

+ The Prodigy freaking KILLED IT. This is not the first time I've seen them live, but this is by far the best show I've seen with them so far. The amazing hooligan audience (incl. flares!) definitely helped. Also, the new tracks they played were great as well, especially Dogbite (?).
+ Zane Lowe also played, and that's the first time I've ever heard any mix from him. Guy's absolutely amazing, what a complete surprise. Insane technical skills, and he played a decent amount of great trap tunes too ^_^
- Skrillex was a pretty big disappointment. It was just DROP after DROP after DROP, and all the brostep shit sounds the same. I never want to hear such a tune again. Though I have to say it was good when he played other stuff (e.g. Dog Blood - Next Order and Pendulum - Tarantula). His blend of Right On Time and the Fresh Prince theme was genius as well.
- All the fucking beer at the festival ran out halfway through the night, which sucked hard.

The Prodigy <3333333333333333

Any other Gaf members/juniors attending Amon Tobin's Isam show in philadelphia tonight? Saw him in NYC last year-and aside from seeing Autechre back in the day- most impressive IDM ever

I'm seeing How To Dress Well in Philly in a few weeks.

Excite!

Hopefully he doesn't try to steal my date that smooth mofo.

Oh guys, I was banned when all this happened, but I'll give you a quick bit of news re: the local scene here in Melbourne:

Maceo Plex cancelled, Jamie Jones booked in his place. Not sure what to expect, but didn't get a refund as I figured that a night out is a night out. A hotel room is booked.

TODD TERJE IS COMING TO MELBOURNE!!! December 7th, for anyone who cares. I'm so fucking pumped, it's ridic.

hey guys, this is probably a pretty lame question, but i thought i'd ask my electronic music peers on gaf!

i have been seeing this guy lately and he is extremely ignorant (for lack of a better word) with electronic music. he does not have anything against it, but has actually managed to not hear it. i want to show him that electronic music is actually pretty damn awesome, but i'm not sure what to show him!

what are some extremely accessible, but fantastic electronic songs that you would recommend to an edm-virgin?

he seems to like a huge variety of music, with some of his favourites being the sex pistols, michael jackson, billy holiday, coltrane, classical music, johnny cash, coldplay, the ramones, motown, florence and the machine, and everything in between.

so far, my list is:
Close Your Eyes - The Chemical Brothers
Kitty Wu - Jaga Jazzist
...And the World Laughs with You - Flying Lotus
Dance of the Pseudo Nymph - Flying Lotus
Blood on the Motorway - DJ Shadow
DVNO - Justice
Stay the Same - Bonobo
Digital Love - Daft Punk

Can't wait to hear the full version of "Keep Keep". I will not stop hyping that Bicep release.

Don't stop the hype brother, this stuff sounds amaaaaaazing.

Good lawwwwwd Joy Orbison and Boddika's Mercy. This collaboration material is way better than Joy O's solo stuff. Wonder if that has more to do with him peaking in 2012 or with more to do with Boddika's input......

I can't wait to hear his next solo stuff, see if he's gotten better. All of his solo was good, not great for me. Outside of a song here or there.

Boddika does make really good stuff though.

I don't know if you've heard it before, but that track seriously reminds me of this song from a few years ago:
Yoshimoto - Du What You Du (H-Man remix) (around 2:00 is where it gets gnarly... not bad for a 5yo track)
FWIW, H-Man (aka Oliver Huntermann) released a bunch of stuff around the same time that sounds similar. Check out the 911/Turbo EP for more goodness.

It depends on how commercial or how obscure you want to try. If I had to pick songs for an SO to act as some kind of "Dummies Guide", this is what I'd shoot for:

Underworld - Jumbo
Goldfrapp - Sex Machine
Grum - Through the Night
Todd Terje - Inspector Norse
2raumwohnung - Lasso (Good Groove & Yapacc remix)**

BTW, I'm not sure whether I'm missing something or not, but I can only assume that EDM is basically anything that gets posted in this thread (like house, disco re-edits, that sort of stuff) and not specifically electronic dance music (ie. heavily, if not completely focused on very digital, synthetic sounds). I've tried to think of stuff that is easily accessible that people curious about dance music could get into (not necessarily *anyone*). Usually vocals, definitely a simple bassline hook and not too many layers tend to grab people the most IMO.

Despite the fact he likes a good range of music, I'd try and keep it simple for the time being, get a feel for what he might like by playing basic stuff first. Don't want to overwhelm him with too many different genres too quickly!

Good luck :)

**I strongly recommend that most, if not all in this thread check this track out. It's a massive sleeper and I don't think it ever made waves, but I absolutely adore it. Killer production on it, too.

New group popping up on Hotflush with a debut EP, Shelter Point.

Preview it here, sounds really mellow and laid back. The second track preview was awesome, as was the fourth. Liking the rest well enough.

Welcome to Sweet Valley, hi. You can be sure of nothing here."
