New Bicep EP in April!

bicepart_031313.jpg

In the midst of a North American tour—which includes a stop at Icee Hot's SXSW showcase this Friday—the Bicep duo has announced plans to return to the Aus imprint with a new EP next month. The four-track Stash EP is said to find the Belfast-born pair going deeper than it did on its previous outing for the label, even taking on a bit more of a "lo-fi style" according the press release, which also lists a rather unexpected combination of influences for the record including "King Street Sounds, HBO's The Wire, and Aphex Twin." No audio preview has surfaced yet, but the EP's xtracklist and artwork can be found below. Stash will see a release on April 15.

01 Stash
02 Courtside Drama
03 Rise
04 The Game

Erm, every track sounds like a reference to The Wire lol. Can't wait! Vision Of Love was my number 4 pick for AOTY 2012.

Edit: Preview the tracks here! Sounds great. Scratch that, sound fucking awesome. The Game is holy shit good. Very moody.

Tracklist please!
There is a song about 37-38 mins in and another one before what I think xxyyxx? and then into white noise that I want the names of!

Odd that I dont really like White noise but after hearing that in the mix I kinda do.

Off the top of my head, it is:

Taa Baa - Atlanta
Mr. Mageeka - Flex
Squarehead - Elegante
Sek - West Coast Ride
Bruce Trail - Beatrice
Roman Flugel - Duck and Cover (I'm rather proud of this transition)
Move D - Like I Was King... (Black Label Mix)
Skudge - Wonder Stories
Dillon - Your Flesh Against Mine (XXXY Remix)
Waze & Odyssey - Our World (a favorite of mine to play out, the low-end is just so good)
Rootstrax - Harlequin (Kerri Chandler Mix)
Rotkraft - Work With the Tempo
Bodhi - Deliquesce (Iyan Dafydd Remix)
Disclosure - White Noise feat. AlunaGeorge
Renaissance Man - Call2Call

Took me a while to remember some of the tracks towards the beginning of the mix. It's funny, though, because if I were to sit down and record a mix or do a DJ set it would be firmly planted in deep house/techno. It's interesting how quickly tastes can change.

Still not sure what to make of your Ableton comment, thabiz, but I'll take it as a compliment.

edit: Efdemin FACT mix! Fuck yes.
edit2: Soundcloud finally fixed the comments so they're in their original spot!

I knew you were using something on a computer, thats all. The bpms and tempo is pretty much the same through out. Typically a sign of a ableton, traktor, etc, at work.

Grab that Different World mix. Crazy good. It's Claude Young.

It's all good, I'm glad you said that. I do tend to get locked into a single BPM and it's something that I'm working on. The work flow is so different with Traktor compared to dealing with vinyl/CDs, you know? Can't wait to move into a bigger apartment.

I'll check out that Different World mix after Efdemin.

turn off the bpm display. it will help.

old man mode.

Turn all that shit off. The only thing you need to know is Artist-Title-Label. When you let a computer tell you, you will subconsciously obey it and sound like a computer.

My new thing is streaming Soundcloud off my phone (since now the majority of the island has 4G) and then playing in my car using my tape deck adaptor, since I have no AUX-IN. So I was listening to this today... and I LOVED it!! Great song selection, and easily your cleanest mixing yet. There were a few songs I need to d/l for myself now :)

Damn! That's ridiculous, poor guy.

edit: and thanks, djtiesto, for the listen. I've gotten much more comfortable playing in front of people, so I'm glad that was noticeable. I'm still taking a break from any official gigs until I get a little more comfortable. Sometimes it's best to just step away from everything and take a breath.

Banned
Found a nice little surprise on my laptop last night! This is the mix I recorded in Harrah's casino in Atlantic City for my friend's party that nearly got us all banned from Harrah's.

Long story short: I brought my equipment, friend brought a small monitor, we had a small party in our hotel room (it was only three of us.) Neighbors next to us and across the hall joined in. Party spilled out into the hallway. 50 minutes later, security came. It got pretty heavy in there, and was absolutely worth it. Didn't realize I had recorded it, but I'm glad I did :)

Taa Baa, Mr. Mageeka, Skudge, Move D, Roman Flugel, Disclosure, Bodhi, more. Fun little mix.

this is some dope shit. thanks for the track list

Okay, that's fucking dope. But the original version gives me heavy vibes of this:
Ethan - In My Heart (Original Mix)* (also has probably the best female vocal I've ever heard in a club track)

The remix of that Osawa/Champers track reminds me of this:
Animotion - Obsession
and a tiny bit of this:
Switch - A Bit Patchy (Eric Prydz remix)*

*Seriously cannot overemphasize just how much I adore these tracks. Most here probably won't like them... but god damn, I *love* them.

That Prydz remix of A Bit Patchy... ugh. Such a great, smooth, progressive track with some of the sweetest, phattest analogue sounds I've heard.

BIG thanks to Larry for letting ibar have a lot of his tracks ahead of release all those years ago, and to Craig 'Watcake' Watkins for discovering the first & inspiring me to be a DJ (we'll ignore the rest haha). Like so many other great tracks they sound still as fresh today.

MUCH more to come ... ;-)

Saw nd_baumecker here in Stockholm last night. He was playing a pumping 3-hour techno set in a remote warehouse location, and fuck me it was GOOOOOOOOD.

This is awesome. Love the original, but this will definitely go down a lot easier for people.

Watched the movie Limelight yesterday while sick in bed. Not the greatest documentary on the subject, but it was still pretty cool and shed some more insight into the whole thing. Watching the movie made me insanely nostalgic. Growing up in Chicago, I was too young to ever go to any of the parties, but I sat at home and read any and all information I could about them and the music. Club kids, to me, were the coolest people on earth. I didn't care about the drugs, I just wanted to go out and be fabulous and hear all this new "techno nonsense" that was coming out. Looking back on it, I do wish I could have experienced at least some of it. Things were so different then. Parties now, while fun, are really tame. Then, I listened to George Fitzgerald - Thinking of You and just... yeaaaaaah.
