hey guys, im thinking of starting a new music related site and I'd like your input. What are you favorite music sites and why do you like them? Also, what are you gripes, is there something that you want in a site that you don't think currently exists?

soundcloud is the best music site because it puts the most important thing front and center and easily accessible

juno has an easily accessible player too that lets you queue up new music to listen to before buying

so put the music first and make it easy for people to listen

the real challenge will be creating a recommendation engine that isn't just based on social "following" or genre or track metadata like artist, label etc...crack that and you're onto a winner

Juno Plus I feel does a good job of covering various topics and genres and making them accessible. If you're going to do a site, focus your attention on a specific genre or a general style. I can't stand Fact and XLR8R because most of if has nothing do with my interests, although I end up finding things I enjoy. They are just too spread out in terms of genres and topics.

Is the idea to be something like RA? A review and news site, or more of a blog like Juno?

I have to go through all those sites just to keep up with releases. And even then stuff sneaks by me all the time.

Anywho, this summer has been packed with awesome stuff. Scuba's Phenix 2 was way better than the first one (where the fuck is the album) DJ Dodger Stadium rocked my socks off (dat Dust), Shlomo and Jerimih oh shit, I could go on and on.

A lot of the influences come from giallo movie soundtracks (italian horror), check out Fabio Frizzi's and Goblin's work. Also, John Carpenter's soundtracks.

edit: But I mean, cinematic music with 80s influences aren't exactly the easiest to find.

Went to Sonar in 2011 and had a great time but kept to the main festival, very little Off Sonar. Heard good things on Dekmantel. Generally just looking for good music (most of the stuff posted in this thread), friendly people, and a cool location.
