very good stuff

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
WOAH, I had no idea there was an electronic music thread in community, just stumbled upon it now! :) (I'm familiar with POPGAF and GAF-HOP but I can't exactly discuss some of the stuff I like there)

I'm curious if anyone is a fan of Kaskade? I never hear anyone talk about him. Some of my favorite electronic music is him as DJ with female vocals:

Only You (this is possibly my fave)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVFR3k0xMtc

To The Skies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo7Y2iSoj0I

Human Reactor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqSdafrOm5w

This is one of my faves from Late Night Alumni (GREAT group with vocals by Becky Jean Williams, love her)

Empty Streets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1e3XtQ7D5Q

My favorite deadmau5 work (female vocals again):

I Remember
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK1mLIeXwsQ

Anyone have any recommendations for anything that's similar?

I'm always looking for new music :D

While this probably isn't the thread you are looking for (its for stuff that's a little less mainstream, generally) I'll hook you up. Here's what I can pull up after skimming through titles in my library.

First and foremost, one of my favorite songs

Scuba - Adrenalin

George Fitzgerald - I Can Tell By The Way You Move

HNNY - No

Jacques Greene - No Excuse

Jessie Ware - No To Love (George Fitzgerald Remix)

Krystal Klear - From The Start

Just a couple big room/anthem kinda tracks.

Ah ok, sorry!

Thank you for the recommendations, I particularly like the Jessie Ware and Krystal Klear songs! :) :)

what do you guys use to find new music these days? I feel like I've been finding tracks from mixes and trolling through youtube a lot lately. I'm getting tired of sifting through beatport. Little White Earbuds was a good resource, but Steve has been taking a break from it.

I liked it, but not nearly as much as Minor Triads Extended or any of his other recent releases. The pacing is kinda fucked up.

Pacing in terms of album sequencing? I'd agree with that, although I liked the lethargic pace of the actual tracks.

I think national-focused sites are the best for getting deep cuts, so while Resident Advisor and Xlr8r are great, I visit sites like Club Fonograma (South America), Far From Moscow (Russia and Baltic countries), All Scandinavia/Ja, Ja, Ja (northern Europe), Make Believe Melodies/Southeastern Indie (Asia), Afropop (Africa), and Mess And Noise (Oceania).

I delve deep into the history of music scenes and learn how they evolve usually. I try to truly understand genres, I've realized that understanding come slowly over time. Wikipedia is good, listening to interviews, and radio sets offers lots of history on a personable level. I don't like making artists out to be a symbol, I love learning about the scenes and people behind them.

I often look up the labels that artists that I like are releasing on, then from they're I find other artists that pursuing similiar interests in music. I'm not too concerned with backlogs, I just like knowing that there is a lot out there for me to explore.

Discogs is one of the best ways to look at labels, or even examine an artists own discography. You can see other names that they have released under in other genres.

DJ Mixes are really great, often times you'll get a taste for the influences that affected an artist.

Last.fm is a great place to search for similiar artists, discogs can be too but it's less spoon fed.

Or ask here. It's hard to just throw out what you like, what you want to avoid. Doesn't even have be genre specified, could be as simple as today I want strange and feel good, or today I want downtemp and orchestral with bass. Not enough people ask for recommendations in here.

What I'd like to add to injurai's post:
I follow quite some artists on Facebook. Most of them often post tracks they like or sometimes spin. It's a great way to discover new tracks and artists. I've found quite some songs.

I also really like the Harangue the DJ section on The Guardian. Big DJ's post their favorite tracks (festival, floor killer, opening track etc.). I've found quite a few hidden gems this way.

Hahahah. Started to read your post and went instantly 'Oh my god this hipster asshole' hahah. Sorry mate! Really good post but that beginning just sounded so awful to me.

Good, so I won't have to explain myself beause you probably wouldn't understand :p
But really all I end up doing is try to find as much music by any means necessary that was part of genetic history of the music I love.

hurfyd is great, also I looked through some old channels I booked marked. Most of them are old jungle. xyrofen, mcna1mcna1, mickeybeam75, DaBlazedUpOne, DaBlazingAsian, MineurDuSon, PhantomAudio83, BluMarTenDNB,

For finding music, outside of being sent stuff, I follow everyone and anything I have liked on Soundcloud, labels the lot.

Also, Phonica newsletter is a source of inspiration. Plus jaunts to resident advisor.

I'm really appreciating your recommendations, even with the few that I didn't know. Fantastic!

New Recondite on Hotflush coming soon. Holy fucking hell Caldera.

I still have to go with Nadsat as his release of the year, but, oof, he's on for another year in a row.

I'll stay away from my pets like Christian Loffler, Sophie, and Pixelord until year-end lists, but here's some new and old 2014 stuff. It's poppier just because I don't feel like listing Jealous God or Opal Tapes releases right now.

Sorry if I get the genres wrong, I'm just looking to be descriptive without being, per usual, pretentious.

I mostly get my new music from here. But I also have a few labels where I check out everything they put out. Hotflush, Madtech, Aus, ManMakeMusic, and a couple others. Then I follow a couple people on twitter. So, if I really like an artist that leads me to other labels, when I sample some of those artists i stay up to date on them. Internet, labels, twitter. That's about it I think.

Yeah, I thought the dark sky lp was pretty enjoyable despite it being a departure from the normal stuff. The vocals worked for me. I could see how people would be disappointed though.

I'm finally getting around to Duke Dumont's For Club Play Only 3 and it's really good. Guess he hasn't lost it.
