From Agnes to Hohokum: The Symbiotic Relationship of Gaming & Electronic Music – featuring Michna & Ben Benjamin

It started as a Ghostly Q&A, it spawned into something greater. Feel free to technically tear to pieces, I literally had to just re-write a load of stuff before going live as I got my a500 and NES release dates mixed up.

[I'm not putting that in the main thread or anything because self indulgence and whatnot!]

Best techno set I've heard in a while:

ROD Malmok live @ Smeerboel
https://soundcloud.com/smeerboelfestival/rod-smeerboel-festival-2014

ps: does anyone know what kind of effect he uses around the 26 minute mark? It seems some kind of delay and after it some pitch change.. Any idea how to achieve this in Traktor?

Delay + key change. Click the down arrow in the bottom right corner of each channel and it'll show a key knob. There's a way to mimic it through an effect chain but I can't remember rhow.

Huzzah! Recondite, who did the album of the year 2013, IMO, is set to release a new album on Innervisions and XLR8R has the first track up for streaming: Recondite - Duolo

It sees him going in a direction I've been yearning for him to go into and I'm so excited to hear the rest of this. It has that signature sound he honed on 'Hinterland' and later on the 'Waldluft EP' as well as on his 'Borderline/Stomper' single, but with a little more techno grit added to it. Sublime material that will sound so good on a proper sound system. So glad he's starting to get the amount of respect he deserves. 'Hinterland' was a sorely under appreciated album.

Also thought this was worth sharing: Anthony Collins - Panther Lies

Even though I work for him, I somehow never heard this until today. Absolute belter of a house track. Classic garage piano work with a ruff-n-tuff Chicago house vibe, euphoric as fuck! This sample does not do the track justice, as it cuts out a huge portion of the full track. It's worth buying.

Wow, I don't know how I missed that. Excellent stuff!

Big room emotional vibes. The Orson Wells EP from the same 50th release quartet is also excellent.

...

In other news: stepped straight from that Hohokum piece into a deep dive into Syro. I'll post up what I thought of it when it goes live.

some stuff ive been listening to:

Chancha Via Circuito - Coplita Ft. Miriam Garcia
Rio Arriba by Chancha Via Circuito totally mesmerized me in 2010, really excited to listen to the new album

https://soundcloud.com/wonderwheel-recordings/chancha-via-circuito-coplita-ft-miriam-garcia

Sandman - Machines Like This

One of the best peak time techno records I've bought this year. All the tracks are good on the record are good, this is my fav though

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dubZaKqS5Vw

Brother Aten - From Heat2yu EP

Big tune on Aybee's label
https://soundcloud.com/brotheraten/from-heat2yu

Alien Rain - Alienated 2B

Acid record that I totally missed last year, great stuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvUwQ90IASg

Vessel - Red Sex

This is what I love about Vessel, he creates this bizarrely funky techno. Not even sure if you would classify this as techno though. Cool track.

This is fucking awesome! Love the industrial vibe to it!

Thanks for the Alien Rain tip, too, did not know about that one. Snagged!

Really super stoked to get my hands on the debut EP from Delta Funktionen on his label, Radio Matrix: Delta Funktionen - RAM-X-01

Edit: Guuhhh, really want that RV800, but can't justify spending $30 on it...

The Guardian does a series where they ask DJs about some of their favorite tracks. One question in particular is a track that they use to rescue a dancefloor. For the DJs here what are some tracks you play that always make people go crazy. Here are a few of mine:

itsnotover - Brotherhood

Photek - Glamourama <-----this is in my top 10 favorite tracks ever

It's 30 bucks on Discogs already? Damn...
There are still copies at deejay.de ;)

http://www.deejay.de/Rv800_-_Subsync_vinyl_Only__113250

I'm in NYC, so it's 11,99EU ($15.32) + shipping, which is about $12 at most European record stores (Clone's shipping is absurdly expensive, like $30 for one record). If I buy from Europe, I try to always buy from Red Eye Records. Cheapest vinyl prices and their shipping is about $3.00US.

;_; buying vinyl hurts me a lot.

edit: have had that Radio Slave remix EP since it was released, sounds sooooo good on a proper system. Dropped it at Panther Room in August, panty-droppingly good stuff. My record is also a little special, as the inner labels are on the wrong side. Whoop!

always good reactions to this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvh5UE4Mdhg

makes even the most lazy person snap their fingers, works great for warm ups
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=623sHFvYyCc

feel a bit dirty playing that one because it feels cheap but...
chicks dig it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-_Y6DhATrk

always gets woooos and raised hands at open airs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZFAnXp7ang

my favorite closer. people always start to kiss and hug each other. bonus points for hugging the dj. works even better for afterhours at shady off locations like brothels. :)

Great feature of The Guardian for sure :). I don't have too much experience outside b bedroom yet, except a few "small" gigs at my work and friends, but...

For house:
Corona - Rhythm Of The Night (Blonde Version)
Thomas Bangalter - Ventura
Craig David ft. Artful Dodger - Rewind

For techno:
Randomer - Stupid Things I Do (New School Mix
Outlander - Vamp
The Advent vs. Industrialyzer - T1 (that heavy kick!)

eedit: I've seen these live a few times.. they're dance floor destroyers for sure.
Edge of Motion - Setup a 707
Josh Wink & Lil Louis - How's Your Evening So Far? (this one just builds up really good... nearly trance-ish)
X101 - Sonic Destroyer
Plastikman - Spastik (Dubfire Rework) (more energetic than the original imo)
Green Velvet - Flash (The Advent Remix)
Gesaffelstein - Depravity (there's so much energy in this track)

"Vamp" will never, ever get old for me. That is the definition of a classic!

I also have a great track by the name of "Schall" that samples it in such a perfect manner... Lovely track.

Technooooo.

Dropped "Vamp" right before "Energy Flash" by Joey Beltram at Panther Room... I think you could imagine what the reaction was like to that one-two punch :)

I thought I was the only one who played "menta" on the regular!! The flip, "Limone", is not one to sneeze at, either, but "Menta" fucking takes the cake.

For something similar, try Peter Van Hoesen's Stretched and Pitched remix of "Slightly Disturbed" by Dario Zenker. Never leaves my box, ever. Fucking glorious remix.
