Someone took my username and made a record label out of it

Weird break-y stuff, right up your alley Injurai. Only one release so far.

(I had no part in doing this, just noticed it)

You have a neat name so I wonder if it's a coincidence or was lifted. Does okno mean anything?

I can't tell if that is the label name or the EP name... It's kind of cool though. Reminds me of Akkord or Millie & Andrea. A bit less musical though, really leveraging that industrial degraded synth sound.

Dark Jovian

"I made these tracks a year or two ago after binge-watching space exploration films. People have, from time to time, described things I've done as "scores for imaginary movies," which has always irritated me, but on this occasion it's sort of true.

Even so, what I was really trying to do was to interpret a sense of scale, like moving towards impossibly giant objects until they occupy your whole field of vision, planets turning, or even how it can feel just looking up at night.

I wanted it to pace very slowly, the way far off objects can seem still until you look away for a while and find they've shifted some distance when you look back. Tracks like Io work in that way; something changing gradually so you barely notice it, until at some point you no longer recognize it.

My musical influences are on my sleeve with this EP. Anyone who loves John Williams, Gerry Goldsmith or Gyorgy Ligeti will hopefully see what I'm drawing from, and how it then sits in an electronic context. Dark Jovian is a small personal project which is, nevertheless, dear to me: A one off indulgence into a genre that I love."

A Record Store Day exclusive, Dark Jovian incorporates 2 single-sided heavyweight 180g white vinyl 12”s with etched markings, encased in a white, branded, rubber wheel and housed in a transparent plastic box. Designed by Alexander Brown.

Like the heavenly bodies that inspired Dark Jovian, and the golden discs sent into space as messages from Earth, the EP's packaging is enigmatic and beautiful in appearance. Topped off with remixes from Lee Gamble, Logos and Eprom, Dark Jovian is the latest work from a master of his form.

I don't remember exactly when I came up with it, but I was watching something where someone kept saying, "ok, yes" and I decided to be a sassy bitch and say, "ok, no." Hence, okno. Nothing fancy.

Dying to hear that Lee Gamble reshape. Any info on where it will be available?

Any new yorks going to this? So jelly
A lot of labels have come and gone during the past five years, but very few of them have had the impact of Tri Angle Records. The imprint has forged a path that has repeatedly unearthed intriguing new artists while connecting the dots between atonal noise, leftfield R&B and hip-hop, brooding atmospherics, and hauntingly emotive pop. In honor of the label’s fifth anniversary, Red Bull Music Academy is bringing together a collection of some of Tri Angle’s brightest talents, including The Haxan Cloak, Holy Other, Evian Christ, Forest Swords, Vessel, and more. This high-profile assemblage will be taking over the basement and vault of the former J.P. Morgan building across the street from the New York Stock Exchange.

Holy Other

It will be available on Record Store Day (3rd Saturday of April). I believe it will be an exclusive one time release. At least the vinyl will be. I think it will be my first Vinyl of 2015 if I can find it. Really looking forward to the Logos Remix myself. Logos and Sully of Keysound have really taken me by storm.

You see, it never quite hit the heights of the first for me. That was the golden era for Yoshi... a whole host of other labels like Bedrock, Hooj... all on fire at that point.

Do you mean disc 1 of this compilation or the first Yoshiesque compilation? :)

I also like the first compilation but disc 2 of compilation 2 is gold from start to finish. (well maybe except for Dusted - Always Remember To Respect And Honour Your Mother, that goes on way too long and is just boring)

Yeah a golden era indeed, so many great stuff released back then.
I'm glad I still have quite some music from those days, listening to it always brings me back.

edit: This all just reminded me that back in those days me and friends were on Molly once at my place and this track came by :

Azymuth - Carambola (Roc Hunter mix)

I'm quite sure we had an entire discussion on using this track as background music if any of us were ever to direct a porn movie hahaha

Azymuth is legit awesome tho, I love their output, really fantastic:

Laranjeiras (orange grove)
Juntos Mais Uma Vez (Together One More Time)
Dear Limmertz

Before I got into house and techno I was really obsessed with Acid Jazz and Funk. It's all come full circle!

Edit: Just heard this mixed into a recent set, outrageous track

Danism - Work On This

The aural shamans of sacred bass, Desert Dwellers, have blessed us with their latest: The Great Mystery. If you are into downtempo, psychedelic, dub, world fusion, this is what's up.

So been awhile since Ive contributed, fell off posting in here to be honest.

Been having a really hard week, grandad has leukaemia, friend whos 22 tells me he has an "unknown mass" and has been for a biopsy, prob cancer.
Another comes out (just to me) that she has crones disease (for four years and never told anyone) and its coming back hard then gets dumped by her bf of 6 years the next day.
Going to visit said grandad in Ireland next week and my mates biopsy results come back on wed.

So yeah bit of a downner. Helps Bloc wrecked the serotonin levels as well.

Anyways, I cant write and I cant produce so I just made this as some kind of expression.
Its not really a mix and not really a mixtape. just a thing.

Sad to hear about that John. Really enjoy your contributions here, but family and friends matter most. When things calm down we all need a plug sesh to catch up. Until then take it easy, and I'm here pulling for you and your family.

STUFF. - STUFF.

This album has been on repeat here for the past few days. A Belgian five-piece balancing somewhere between electronic music and free jazz. You can listen to their whole debut album on their Bandcamp page.

Here's a high quality live video of their song Skywalker. These guys are the real deal

I think I remembered someone here being associated with Scissor and Thread? This Further Future festival in Vegas just posted about a showcase from there

Hullo.

I highly recommend anyone going to Further to go to the showcase. Debuting a new project that the guys have been dreaming up for a while now, along with a debut live set from Desert Sound Colony Rosa Nievas, who is a fucking brilliant producer and DJ. It's going to be fucking great, but I unfortunately will be unable to be there.

Some new heat:
Son.sine - Seconds:Minutes:Hours (Delsin)
Roman Flugel - Tender Hooligan (Robert Johnson)
FBK - Past Ownership (MDR)
Roman Flugel - Sliced Africa

Is the showcase in NYC? Might be a little difficult to get to from SF. But I will be at Further

Self pimpage in a vague fashion.

The middle child of the Field Records LP trilogy - In The Wake Of Dark Earth by DARFDHS - is pretty much solidified as a permanent resident on my phone now. More often than not, I head straight to that rather over the masses of stuff on my not too insignificant 80GB wadge of tracks on my phone.

I liked it so much that I asked for a full track stream from the label/artist (here), so have a listen to that to see what you think.

Here is some PR pasta.

Now entering its seventh year, Dutch label Field Records continues to focus on great album projects. After a triple 12” compilation in 2014, and ahead of a third album in the coming months, now comes a 12 track opus, In The Wake Of The Dark Earth, by D.Å.R.F.D.H.S. aka Swedish pair Michel Isorinne and Jonas Rönnberg.

Between them, Isorinne and Rönnberg record under a number of different aliases and have done so for the last couple of years on labels like Opal Tapes and Northern Electronics. Their sound veers from foggy, experimental stuff to icy techno via deep acid, and produced a first album this time last year on Clan Destine Records.

This new album is one for headphones or home listening, for lonely winter nights or long night time journeys. It’s an absorbing ambient affair weighed down by a heavy sense of atmosphere. At times shadowy and eerie, at others cautiously optimistic, the perfectly crafted spaces within all invite you to get lost and completely forget the outside world. Arriving with enigmatic artwork in both digital and vinyl format, modern ambient never sounded better.

Artist: D.Å.R.F.D.H.S.
Title: In The Wake Of The Dark Earth
Label: Field Records
Cat. No.: Field15
Format: 2xLP / Digital
Release date: 30-03-2015

01. When Ansgar, Plague Of The North Arrived At The Gates Of Birka
02. Offerings To Njord
03. Leaving Mälaren, Across Austmarr
04. Drowned In Lake Ladoga
05. Ruriks Holmgard
06. Slave Merchants In Aldeigjubdorg
07. Down The River Volchov
08. White Sea / Black Sea
09. Byzantium Traders Sailing Over The Edge Of The World
10. Entering The Caspian Sea
11. Broken Arrows Hidden In The Sand
12. The Fallen City / Reduced To Loneliness

The final album from Kartei is sounding great too.

Excellent album, very relaxing and droning. Waiting for my limited edition copy to arrive, hnnnggg.

Citizenn's debut LP coming in June. Human Interface.

First single, Tied

Its nice to hear a DJ put bangers on an album, and not yap about trying to move away from dance tunes. Unlike my boy George Fitz. What a bummer that interview is.

Decided to boot up Ableton again last week and started messing around with techno. I'm really seeing myself improve, though I still suck. But there's progress! Figured out it's better to post it here due to more techno heads than in the production thread.

Anyway, quite happy with what I have so far. It's far from finished, but I could use some feedback / tips. So shoot!

Edit:
I would like to make it even more 'aggressive' / dark as a track.
