UMMM!

I don't know if anyone here is into disco at all, buuuut... there's a band that goes by the name of Escort that released the amazing single "Starlight" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMLt8a5BzNg) about four years ago. Three 12"s later, they were to release an album and then they disappeared without a word...

until now! Introducing "Cocaine Blues:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jHDxpADtRc

NYC-GAF: They're playing at the Highline Ballroom on Friday night, too!

So recently joelseph introduced me to Mount Kimbie in the Pantha Du prince thread and I've been digging around for more music the past days...

Is it just me or has 2010 been THE year for electronic album releases??

Mount Kimbie - Crooks and Lovers
Four Tet - There Is Love in You
Caribou - Swim (just discovered this, soo good)
Pantha du Prince - Black Noise

Just to name a few

There are so many artists around and I admit I don't quite got a grasp of the electronic scene(or any grasps at all). But 2010 seem to be flooded with absolutely solid electronic albums.

Next month the of the biggest post-dub albums of the year is dropping on Hyperdub, Darkstar's North. Super pumped.

The Miami horror definitely sounds like an old supertramp album done well. Lots of vintage Rhodes sounds but still sounds very current. I'd suggest giving it a run through on YouTube. I love it.

Haven't had the chance to listen to their new one yet, but I love their Bravado EP.

Morro! - Gentlemanly Disco

A deep disco mix. I'll edit this post with the tracklist in a bit. Artwork was made by GAF's very own Gyrian.

Any toughts?

Gonna have to take a listen when I'm at home... I really enjoyed the track selection in the previous 2 mixes you posted (as I love disco, and my next will be very similar to these), unfortunately there were a few spots where you clanged with the mixing.

Indeed mate. This one is a bit more proper mixed, but you can still hear a massive fuck up at the minute 36. I'm a bit of a n00b at mixing stuff...

At least I hope you like the track selection :)

And here we go:

NEW MOVES // ZOMBY - http://alwayseverything.tumblr.com/post/1211419537/new-moves-zomby

It’s been pretty quiet on the Zomby front over the past twelve months or so, the man of mystery putting little out since last year’s absolutely glorious Digital Flora 10” on Brainmath. Alongside ‘Tarantula’, his contribution to Hyperdub’s Five Years Of compilation, it pointed towards a gradual evolution of his sound, away from the sickly gloop of his self-titled EP and One Foot Ahead Of The Other’s day-glo dancefloor antics. Instead, it saw him craft a deep, beautifully understated form of house – at the time I described it as ‘something that could soundtrack a film noir set along the banks of the modern day Thames… bathed in eddies of purple murk, [with] tiny flashes of melody sweeping past like car headlights’ – something he’s further honed with a raft of new sounds emerging over the last couple of weeks.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfsd7YLyDRs

First up, his contributions to Ninja Tune’s twentieth anniversary collection, both of which turned up on a foolishly cheap 12” alongside excellent material from The Bug, Daedelus and Two Fingers. ‘The Forest’ could almost be ‘Digital Flora’ Part Two, exploring much the same twilight region, all aquatic, rippling percussion and garish casio tones that pirouette like bubbles of air through water. Alongside the gradually attenuating drum rolls of the crushing ‘Orchid’, it has an evocative, Drexciyan charm. Both feel far shorter than their runtimes, and they seem to absorb all the energy out of the space surrounding them – the only solution seems to be to spin the record again.

And then, for the first time in about a year, Dusk & Blackdown’s (reliably excellent) Rinse FM show last week contained one of their traditional Zomby showcases, unearthing some new more of his new material. This short mix shows him in similarly contemplative form – all seven tracks blend into one, deeply melodic whole, tough to separate into constituent parts but seeing him smoothly move from beatless Devil mix-style grime to his most disorienting music yet. At times the sharp angles seem almost impossible to navigate – let alone dance to! – but at one point I’m pretty sure Erykah Badu’s voice appears for a fraction of a second before disappearing into the depths again. The mix starts at about 1:07:30 into the show - >which is available to download here< - but the whole thing is well worth a couple of hours of your time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOJn5TYQTfY

Finally, the last ever Mary Anne Hobbs show was graced with a totally immersive mix from Burial and Kode9, which opened with possibly Zomby’s most beautiful track so far, ‘Natalia’s Song’. Apparently it’s an older dub from around the time of his first Hyperdub releases that never saw the light of day, but its heartbroken two-step shuffle is every bit as affecting as Burial at his best; hopefully it’ll find its way into the world properly at some point.

Sorry I haven't been able to post new stuff in this thread much lately, been very busy with the bar but well done on everyone on keeping it going. Some great stuff being posted, and it's been great to see Mustard Pimp get a strong following as well.

Don't know if people's attention have been brought to The Subs yet but check them out:

Really like their sound, electro/techno/acidhouse hybrid, and they look the dog's bollocks live:

NGUZUNGUZU and TOTAL FREEDOM are playing at the EvilOlive (Chicago) tonight. Rare that Chicago gets such big underground performers.

Mount Kimbie and Peter van Hoesen tomorrow night! MK are in the front room, Peter in the back. It's going to suck so much going back and forth between the two rooms...

Been really digging the new Superpitcher album, new Tensnake mix album, new Marc Houle, and am surprisingly loving the new Caribou. This year has been fucking ridiculous for quality electronic music and there's so much more coming! Can't wait for Magda's album to come out in the next two weeks!

Interesting fact: Major Lazer is actually Diplo and Switch! I had no idea... when I found out over the weekend, I was high-fiving my best mate while completely trashed. I was a little excited when I found out :lol

Yeah, knew that one :)

PS. We need to hear some old-school Switch make a comeback. Tracks like Want 2 Need 2, Something On Your Mind, Making Me Money and Divine Gosa (not counting Riverside, obv.) with his touch are sorely fucking missed.

While I'm on a roll, any of you ever get into Red Hot by Solid Groove/Sinden? I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it :lol

Dave is still producing and remixing as Switch, I recently came across a new remix but it didn't stand out. I will see if I can dig it up. Been a year two since I heard any of his fidget.

Speaking on side projects AC Slater released a rap album with the rapper Dell. It is free and pretty decent if you are into it. Scoop it on Mishka.

Figured as much... seems the new-school with the likes of Afrojack are taking over. Bit of a shame, because at least Switch, Sinden and Herve (to a lesser extent) actually made shit that sounded different track-to-track. IMO the only real decent song that AJ has put out is Take Over Control.

afrojack is ridiculously overhyped. he's definitely got a few awesome songs but everything of his sounds the same.

i've never been a big fan of herve and switch, but they definitely make different sounding songs.
