It was amazing. Boom Jinx and Jaytech being the least...They all played pretty similar music. The difference is in the crowd when Cosmic or A&B were playing.

Jesus CHRIST! Saw Silent Servant spin last night and fucking GOD he was so good. Started off doing these really awesome disco tunes, and then quickly delved into chaos. It was magnificent. A Made Up Sound spun, too, but he was surprisingly boring.

Seeing Donato Dozzy and Optimo in a few weeks @_@

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to avoid (as much as possible) bleeding-edge new music in 2011. The amount of stuff I've discovered that's a year or so older that holds up better today that a lot of current stuff is ridiculous. Case in point, The Knife - Heartbeats (Rex the Dog remix).

Also makes it easier to avoid influence of flavour-of-the-month genres and focus on shit you love purely because you enjoy it, not because it's getting flogged on the radio/in clubs/on blogs. The biggest reason I don't manage to put out mixes as much as I'd like is that I try too hard to include tracks that I never really feel and end up compromising on the vibe of the mix.

Good post, specially like the end. It is ok to "save" up older tracks and make that magical mix. Really helps set a mood.

Damn so much good stuff in this mix and I'm only 1 hour in.

Now I know the name Leon Bolier as well. I still can't get over how many names there are in this field. When some of you(joelseph, subrock, etc.) see a mix like above, do you recognize all the names and tracks, or are you also discovering new stuff as well?

That particular mix I probably only know 30% of the names, labels, etc. The mixes I post it ranges from 50-100%. I actually prefer when I don't know any of the tracks, that is what makes mixes so great for me.

Cheers! I've found it's just way too easy to get caught up in BP charts and blogger mixtapes with so much new (and admittedly quality) stuff that you can get lost amongst it all. Keep it simple and stick with what you know, I guess. People would likely much rather rock out to Revolution 909 at a house party than the latest Soulwax/DP inspired banger by some unknown flash-in-the-pan*. I know I would!


*using house as a reference, but replace with yer favourite genre staples.

after 1 listen I didn't walk away overly impressed with the Blake album. wasn't anticipating the majority of the album to be this vocal heavy......his voice is okay, but I think some of these tracks would work much better with a stronger vocalist. anyone expecting stuff in the vein of his eps will probably be kinda disappointed.

I actually had the opportunity of seeing him doing a DJ set at a festival a few years back, before I knew he was. Only saw the tail-end of his set before I found out he went by the name JX back in the mid-late 90s (Son of a Gun, You Belong to Me and my fave, There's Nothing I Won't Do) and have been kicking myself ever since.

Jesus, you weren't exaggerating. What a depressing album! Some of the tracks will grow on me I am sure but the entire thing is James acting melancholy on each track!

Emotion only ever really works in electronic music when it's the melody talking, not the vocal. I haven't heard that particular album but can I assume that the artist assumed his talent in front of the mic was the same as his talent behind the synths?

this was my exact feelings as well. the minimal vibe was cool, but i found his okay-vocals to be distracting a lot.

Haha, yeah I got the Timo Maas album, really liked the first half of the first disk, but the rest of it was really dull and boring. Too many tracks from him and Santos, all too drummy and techy, lacking the melodic vibes of the first half of disk 1. Pretty disappointing purchase for me unfortunately, and it cost quite a bit of $$.

Really loved Timo's stuff back in the day. Azzido Da Bass - Doom's Night (Timo Maas remix)... was a MONSTER. Every DJ regardless of genre was playing it. Ferry Corsten played it, a bunch of UK garage DJs were whoring it out... etc. There hasn't been that much of a crossover in EDM in years.

I saw him tour for that album a few months back. Good, but nowhere near what I was expecting (thus, not as good as I though) but he played a few of his own tracks. Unfortunately, didn't play First Day (the track with Brian Molko that I freakin' LOVE) or Der Schieber (EPIC track) though :/

(check out the last link... I think you'll like it ;) )

Oh, too right about his mix of Azzido Da Bass... I haven't heard a track crossover like that for ages (at least, it seems like it).
