well to be honest, i like the drop....haha. but if you really don't like it there's nothing wrong with cutting to another track i guess. the point when the clockwork song drops is where the other song's drop should also be. maybe include parts of the buildup from the other song over top just so that it doesn't seem like such a cold cut. or maybe make an edit of the two songs intertwining?

The drop is just so abrupt and doesn't carry over any of the melodic whimsy! Someone needs to do an edit.

Probably going to buy a cheap little mixer this weekend, I can't keep using just my mouse.

Yeah I gave up trying to get every mix perfect a long time ago. I prefer the instant gratification (and frustrations) of mixing vinyl. Using a computer must be tough when you realize you can keep tweaking forever. Sometimes you nail the mix, sometimes you don't. Whats more important is that you're playing good music.

Yeah I gave up trying to get every mix perfect a long time ago. I prefer the instant gratification (and frustrations) of mixing vinyl. Using a computer must be tough when you realize you can keep tweaking forever. Sometimes you nail the mix, sometimes you don't. Whats more important is that you're playing good music.

I prefer the feel of vinyl, too. Can't wait to be able to get some tables and time codes. It's not the exact same, but it's way more fun and just feels better.

Yeah I gave up trying to get every mix perfect a long time ago. I prefer the instant gratification (and frustrations) of mixing vinyl. Using a computer must be tough when you realize you can keep tweaking forever. Sometimes you nail the mix, sometimes you don't. Whats more important is that you're playing good music.

Don't even need to be using vinyl. I'm rocking out with Serato using CDJs and find that the experience feels identical to using regular CDs.

But oh man, the guy who played after me (little beer garden gig) is completely clueless... managed to break the pot of one of the channels (not just the knob but the steel pin... completely sheared off!), dropped one of my friends speakers (likely completely fucked it) AND cannot beatmatch for absolute shit. I just don't know how even a bedroom DJ (this guy had played gigs for years, apparently) can't know how to do simple beatmatching. Lesson to the kids: hone your Ableton skills or whatever, but FFS learn how to beatmatch. If you're ever asked to spin a couple of quick tunes at a house party, you won't always be able to reach for your laptop.

Other guy he played with was surprisingly good. Could beatmatch and managed to drop some very fucking bizarre (yet awesome) tracks. Open Up by Leftfield? I think you're my new best friend.

I've never even mixed with CDs. I learned to mix on beltdrive turntables in 1995, and have never upgraded beyond owning 3 Technics 1200s and new mixers every once in a while.

I'll get around to the digital thing eventually, vinyl is getting too expensive.

If you don't scratch, it's worth getting into if you can. The base-model Pioneer (not necessarily club-standard) decks can run at about $400AU each and be plenty enough to get used to playing on CDJ-800/1000 behemoths. Shit, I cut my teeth on one of these before getting "real" decks:

This sounds ancient. I don't know any current artists working with this 303 driven style. You could try some Josh Wink, Dave The Drummer, Chris Liberator & The Geezer, maybe Planetary Assault Systems.

Did the NYD music festival thing yesterday with Summadayze in Melbourne. A brief rundown of who I saw:
Boys Noize: Not bad, set was a little inconsistent but had a few bangers in there.
Justice: Hooooly fuck, very impressive set. Seemed to play mostly tracks of theirs (couldn't name them but definitely had that "Justice" vibe) but came out with a few surprises... namely Morning Lemon by Chems and the Lu Cont remix of Silver Screen Shower Scene (in it's entirety). Fucking blew my mind when I heard them play the latter... made my day
Claude Von Stroke: Very unimpressive. Set was all over the shop, going from DnB to electro and everywhere inbetween. Only saw him for about 15 mins but that was enough.
Miguel Migs: Incredible. Played the perfect music for a festival smack-bang in the middle of the Summer. The smoothest REAL house I'd heard for ages... could imagine it playing in Paradise Garage in the mid-80s. Surprise of the day.
N.E.R.D.: What the fuck were they doing there? Fuck the organisers for getting bands like that to dance music festivals :/

PS. Is that a typical example of dubstep? Because, um, I'm pretty smashed and IMO if I don't "get it" now, I probably never will. Actually, I "get it", I just don't see the appeal... it just seems like 4/4 vocals over pulled back (and somewhat well layered) drum and bass/break beats. joelseph, that's more directed to you as you seem to be the biggest champion of the genre in this thread.

Pretty sure that after whatever discussion stems from this post, if it doesn't convince/entice me, it never will :lol

I was being lazy and posted the Nero remix but NERD did a song with Daftpunk so thats why I was assuming they were at that thing you went to, not to convert you to dubstep :lol

nero's best remix was their In the Middle (The Streets) one. Otherwise they're pretty much getting fairly generic right now.

Only dubstep I can actually listen to these days is Skream. I like his more toned down version of it.
