Nice one man, but for a second there I thought it was the Bended Elbow in Albury!
There's a few around but I'm not sure whether they're related or not. I know there was one in Bendigo (or Ballarat... I get them confused :lol) that was a bit of a dive, but this one should be fun. If anything, it's a great chance to have a blast on a fucking amazing system for 30 mins. If I play like shit, I'll just use the "you get what you pay for" line given that I'm "donating" my time ;)

So, last night's binge on Armand Van Helden somehow lead me to the trio, Magnetic Man, and the vocalist Katy B.

I'm sure you guys have already discussed them to death, but holy shit.

Katy B. ft. Ms. Dynamite -- "Lights On"

Magnetic Man ft. Katy B. -- "Perfect Stranger" (Live w/ string players) INCREDIBLE TRACK.

Magnetic Man ft. Emeli Sande -- "I Need Air" (Live w/ string players)

I'll be keeping my eyes on Magnetic Man and the two vocalists I posted. Wow.

This duo had 2 of my favorite songs of 2010 (Gin Nation and Dr Burner) and now they look like they're gonna explode hot off the heels of their RA mix (kinda like how Tensnake did). Always Everything 001: Flex Mentallo

We know, we know.. The internet’s somewhat.. overdetermined for mix series these days. With this in mind, Always Everything is keeping it intimate, these mixes are gonna be irregular and come solely from people we’re close to, in active dialogue with or otherwise. First off the bat comes from within the AE family itself, a set of doomy synth maximalism and booty jams from Flex Mentallo. Taking advantage of recent UK underground solidarity with dirty south hip hop and billboard top 40, Flex tightly mixes a set that brings UK bass mutations, trap anthems and synth driven abstractions together into one fluid, dancefloor ready package, offsetting R&B ethereality with speaker blowing low end, braggadocio with pathos, sweet with sour. Basically, it bangs, listen up.

Gucci Mane - Volume (instrumental) [Prod. J.U.S.T.I.C.E League]
Morgan Zarate - Hookid
Young Jeezy - What They Want
Maximillion Dunbar - Down There
Gucci Mane - All About The Money (Instrumental) [Prod. Drumma Boy]
Beyonce - Diva
Rustie - Dragonfly
Young L - Loser
Ginz - Boss
Rick Ross - MC Hammer (feat. Gucci Mane)
SX - 10:28am (Instrumental)
Pearson Sound - Blanked
Ciara - Ride (feat. Ludacris)
Becoming Real - Showdown In Chinatown (Instrumental)
Dozen - Too Much (Illum Sphere)
Ludacris - Party No Mo
Superisk - Find Your Way VIP (Instrumental)
Kuedo - Joy Construction
The-Dream - F.I.L.A
Jam City - 2 Hot
Hype Williams - Ooovrrr

My favorite mix of the year, so far. Unbelievable stuff!

Bought a Numark X1 mixer today. Nothing fancy, just wanted something cheap, solid and with EQ kills. The only problem with it, though, is that on CH1 I have to turn the gain up and on CH2 I have to turn it down, quite a bit. If I have them at neutral, CH2 is obscenely loud. I´ve tried finding a different solution to this, but can´t find a damn thing. Small problem, but still.

edit: Okay, I've found a far bigger and very serious problem. Everything sounds totally fine when I have the mixer and headphones plugged in. When I record a mix, however, upon playback there is an INSANE amount of audio interference. I don't know if that's what it is, but I can only assume it is. When I play it back, it's all garbled and just sounds overloaded, as if everything was in the red in the entire time. I can't find anything relating to this online, so if I don't find anything, I'm just going to take it back to the store tomorrow and see what they can do. I've checked all of my input/output routings and everything is as it should be, and, so far as I can tell, everything is working as it should! Anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Re: the volume. I've used one of those before (I think)... don't seem to remember there being any real problem (other than it was a fairly shit system I was playing on). Only thing I can suggest (it MAY make a difference) is that from memory there were two inputs per channel... make sure you're using the same for each one (I'd suggest line for both).

The noise: Is it the USB one or just regular mixer? I'm not sure how the USB would work on it if that's what you're using, but make sure that both USB inputs are connected off the same hub so that they're getting the same ground. If you're not using the USB, just make sure that whatever you're connecting up (CDJs, turntables etc.) are connected off the same power source. With turntables, make sure you connect the ground wire to the mixer.

New Anjunadeep mixcomp!

We've let you know that Anjunadeep:03 will be hitting the stores on the 21st Feb 2010 and now it's time now to reveal the all important track list. Every single day from now until the album launch we will be revealing a new clip from the album tracks so stay tuned daily to our Anjunadeep:03 Flashplayer. You can pre-order a copy of the album now from Anjunastore.

Firmly established as a bedrock of the progressive and melodic techno sound, Anjunadeep has scaled new heights in the past 12 months with support coming from acts as disparate as UK techno baron Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Eric Prydz, Groove Armada’s Andy Cato and stadium-filler Deadmau5 – the latter commenting on Michael Cassette’s Anjunadeep anthem ‘Ghost In The Machine’: “I haven’t felt this good listening to a piece of music since Eric Prydz’s ‘Melo’ -10/10”.

Showcasing the full spectrum of the label’s diverse sounds, ‘Anjunadeep:03’ is the latest annual label collection and features 29 largely unreleased tracks that range from deep, dark and hypnotic techno sounds to upbeat, uplifting electronic house grooves.

Beginning on the lush techno of Stephen J Kroos’ ‘Micrsh’ and the beautifully brooding deep house chasms of Martin Roth’s ‘Deep Style’, Anjunadeep A&R James Grant’s CD1 mix continues to build through melodic techno and progressive textures with tracks and remixes from Underworld, Spooky, Michael Cassette, Andrew Bayer and promising newcomer Soundprank.

On the second disc, Anjunadeep mainstay Jaytech shows off a slightly more upbeat and uplifting electronic house sound that touches on nu disco, electro and more classic house grooves and includes Jaytech’s own forthcoming anthem ‘Djembe’, as well as deep audio offerings from Solarity, Dinka, PROFF, Interplay and Maor Levi.

It's the X1 USB. I had it plugged in to a really crap, unpowered USB hub yesterday, so I just now tried plugging it straight into my iMac and it works perfectly. It fixed the volume problem, too. I may have been a *touch* drunk last night, and pressed for time, so I didn't think of the fact that USB needs lots of power sometimes, hah. Thanks for your help!

Also, congrats on the gig! Sounds awesome!

No worries (and thanks!)

It's funny, I've now become an expert in setting up my home kit while absolutely maggoted. That's a Serato setup which requires plugging in inputs and outputs and RCAs EVERYWHERE, yet I managed to get it done. I have some of the most fun (yet most completely random) knocking up sets at home while I can barely see straight and plus it's a whole "mind over matter" thing. Sometimes I do it just to see if I can, then don't actually use the fucking thing :lol

Alright so I usually stay on the gaming side but I've been coming to OT more often... just found this thread and WOW, it's going to take me a long, long time to go through it all.

In the meantime, anyone going to Ultra this year? I'm seeing shm so far...

Who the fuck is that Villalobos guy? Some of the other selections are good, though... Sven Vath, 2manydjs, Tony De Vit, Carl Cox. Not too bad... but TIESTO?

No Francois K is a bit of a bitch, too.

You've never heard of Villalobos? He's HUGE in the minimal scene, but he's not my cup of tea. Very latin influenced stuff.

Mixmag is horrible stuff.

It's absolutely *RETARDED* how Ultra falls 2 weeks after WMC, instead of at the end of it like usual. I don't know whose bright idea that was...

Not sure if I'm going to Ultra, the WMC, or neither... I'll really have to see. The 2 friends I normally go with - one of them is extremely depressed after a divorce and getting him out of the house is like pulling teeth, and the other started going out with a girl and then proceeded to disappear off the face of the planet. Unfortunately, my girl doesn't like house music and I highly doubt she'd be interested in partying in sketchy Miami clubs for a week straight.

If I had to choose, I'd probably end up with WMC - I get the festival experience up here with Electric Zoo (although it's obviously not as epic as Ultra), and WMC tends to have more lesser-known acts I'd be more keen on seeing - I'd rather see Add2Basket for the first time instead of Armin and Deadmau5 for the 57th time.

I honestly expected Sasha to place much higher. Especially considering this. Even more so surprised that John Digweed wasn't even an option, both of them will always be legends to me.

Really shocked you aren't familiar with Ricardo Villalobos though, okno really said all that needs to be said. He's been around for a while and absolutely HUGE in the minimal house/techno scene, but I didn't know he was so huge as to be nominated for a list like this. Take a listen to his album "Alchachofa", regardless of whether or not you like minimal, it's an awesome and innovative album. I'm pretty bummed that he doesn't play in the US though :p

Also Andy C and 2manyDJs are pretty random and offbeat choices. Cox, PVD, Tiesto, Sasha and Richie all make sense on that list. Replace Andy C with someone like Goldie or LTJ Bukem for the D&B heads, and throw in Diggers instead of 2manyDJs...

I'll be checking him out for sure, guys! Probably because he's never really been a flavour of the month he's never popped up on my radar.

I, too, am surprised with some of the inclusions... 2manydjs, while awesome, are quite new on the scene (in comparison to Coxy and Sasha) and I figured they would've made way for some of the more experienced DJs from the 80s and 90s.

Also not sure about the complete lack of DJs outside of Europe... would've thought the voters (not sure if it was public or private) would be less insular than to not include any spinners from the US. Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan come to mind and were/are far more "great" than some of the acts listed there.

There should be a few on there. Can't check myself, because my iPhone won't load the page correctly. That's an awesome website, though, tons of sets from hundreds of DJs.

Opened a bit of a time capsule on Youtube tonight. You kids could do with a bit of schoolin', so here ya go:
Jam & Spoon - Follow Me
Cosmic Baby - Fantasia

Pretty much the sole reason why I ever wished I was older than I was... so I could see Cosmic Baby and Jam & Spoon live... I was about 3 years too late. My brother wasn't though... bastard.

Edit: One more: Find Me. Had the biggest crush on Plavka when I was young. Seriously. Who the fuck has a crush on a dance music singer when they're 14?!? :lol

Big fun club mix from french master Canblaster!

canblaster-452x278.jpg

Canblaster – XLR8R Podcast, January 25th 2011 (direct link)

French producer/dj Canblaster along with his cohorts in the Club Cheval crew will most likely be the producers to watch out for in 2011, here’s a massive mix that Canblaster just did for XLR8R.

“2010 was a good year for French producer Canblaster (a.k.a. Cédric Steffens), as the Club Cheval resident and former Bubblin’ subject debuted with the Jetpack EP and also dropped a string of hyperactive, genre-hopping remixes for the likes of Spoek Mathambo, Drop the Lime, J-Wow, Teki Latex, and others. Many of those efforts appear on this exclusive mix he’s put together for the XLR8R podcast series, an absolutely stacked DJ session that somehow squeezes in more than 50 tracks, the majority of which are unreleased. It’s the first salvo in what promises to be a frantic 2011 for Canblaster, who next month will be releasing his second EP, Master of Complication, on the Nightshifters label. Whether he’s experiencing sonic ADD or simply allowing his youthful exuberance to run wild, Canblaster’s DJ stylings appear to be just as schizophrenic as his production work, as his podcast bounces between hip-hop, R&B, house, rave, juke, electro, tribal guarachero, and more. Considering that the guy used to compose video game music for a living and cites Basement Jaxx as a major influence, it’s not exactly surprising that fun is always a major component of his musical equation.”

Joelseph is our resident bass music/dubstep enthusiast, and the most active, but there's no need to change the name. A good majority of the music posted is electronica/electro-house. Games Analyst keeps the trance going, and the rest of us talk house/techno.

Were an odd little family.

Sorry for the double post, but just wanted to post this really quick.

Made a mix for my brother for his 32nd birthday last week. He's really into very driving, pushing techno, so I tried to do something like that, but with a deeper feel. (The first 15 mins are kind of a mess, but it gets better)

Hardly any of it is dubstep. We are here to help educate you.

50 Canblaster “Triple Ring” (Nightshifters)

52 DJ Jonty “Grindin (Kastle Edit)”

These were the two standout tracks for me on the canblaster mix. Cannot wait for his Nightshifters release to drop, what a fucking b side. And of course Kastle for the bitches. <3 <3 <3

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Joelseph, do you know what game music Canblaster composed for? (Was reading the little biography in your post)

okno, mix sounds interesting, will check it out after work. Tracklist (Alan Fitzpatrick, John Dahlbeck, Reshuffle) is giving me a John Digweed "progno" vibe... with some minimal and dub tech thrown in.

It's not dubstep, it's subgenres of dubstep! Sheesh, man... don't you know ANYTHING?

I don't, and can't find the info either. I am going to ask him.

Gary Numan is touring Australia with Severed Heads (!!!!) in May this year to perform The Pleasure Principle. That's right, SEVERED fucking HEADS. I'm more excited for this than any concert/festival in recent memory.
Dead Eyes Opened

Seriously, so fucking pumped.

Oh, I don't doubt it... the D: was more to do with the photo, not his music. Photos like that are the main reason I avoid photos wherever possible ;)
