Sorry to bombard you guys like this, but I really wasn't happy with the last mix I made, so I decided to make a smaller, tighter, pure house (deep house, dub house, tech house) mix and I'm really happy with it. Hope you guys like it!

really digging this mix:

With a rhythmic sensibility that darts between 4/4 house, UK garage and more warped, modernist territory (it’s no surprise they’ve got a single penciled in for Brackles and Shortstuff’s Blunted Robots label later this year), Dark Sky appeared on our radar and then flew straight through it with last year’s gymnastic ‘Reflex’ single and their well-received remixes of the xx and Kelis.

At the end of last year, we asked FACT readers who they’d like to see contribute FACT mixes in 2011, and amongst the usual shouts of Aphex and Burial (keep dreaming), Dark Sky’s name was one that kept cropping up. So contribute they have, with a succinct session that kicks off with Young Turks’ forthcoming Valentine’s Day single, pairing classics from Carl Craig, Burial and Four Tet with recent favourites from xxxy and Lone, and closing on a pair of the group’s own remixes.

Valentine – Sampha & Jessie Ware
Moth – Burial & Four Tet
Falling Up (Carl Craig Remix) – Theo Parrish
Ultramarine – Lone
Ordinary Things – xxxy
Blackmagic (Joy Orbison Recreation) – Jose James
Brave (Dark Sky Remix) – Kelis
Tell Me (George Fitzgerald Remix) – Groove Theory - you close the night with this track and I guarantee you gonna get laid.
Falling (Dark Sky Remix) – Ben Westbeech

Haze-crazy electronic producer Bibio's latest LP, Mind Bokeh, arrives March 29 in the U.S. and April 4 in the rest of the world, via Warp. Now, there's a video for the album's first track, "Excuses", and like the cover art above, it features lots of pretty colors and patterns. [PF]

Bibio - 'Excuses' [YT]

This is easily the absolute best mix you've done... I'm not just saying that because the style of music is right up my alley, either... the mixing is extremely tight and everything flows very well. "Leave Your Mind" is my favorite song on the mix, The Revenge can do no wrong.

Hope this is the right place for this, but I've found myself listening to a lot more Progressive House lately and was looking for some recommendations for artists, tracks and podcasts related to that scene. One guy I'm really loving at the minute is Shingo Nakamura (this track is incredible - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MIVMB3k4AA) so anything in a similar vein would be great.

Thanks a lot, man! I thought you'd get a kick out of it, hah. That DJ Sprinkles song drives me bananas, that Revenge track is cuh-razy, and that Soul Clap track makes me cream myself. I'm working on another more upbeat mix, but I keep getting audio interference on playback of my recordings. It might be a grounding issue, I realized, so I'm going to see if I can figure that out tonight.

Spent another $100+ on beatport yesterday, oi.

Progressive House is such a broad category, since the genre has been around since the early 90's, and has changed... err "progressed" over the years. It's taken influences from trance, tribal, techno, minimal, electro and breaks through the years... my personal favorite style of music EVER is the progressive that was being made around the turn of the century, Sasha's releases on Global Underground in particular.

Yeah, I was always pretty nuts for progressive house/electro right up until a year or two ago when it seemed to pull right back. By far my favourite progressive track of the 2000s is this:
Kirk Degiorgio Songs - Starwaves (Spirit Catcher`s Time Modulator
(haven't checked the quality of the link... I'm at work)

The Sasha remix of Out of Control is boss as well.

PS. Your list is fucking awesome... pretty sure we have near-identical tastes (apart from your nick... argh :p)

XXXY - You Always Start It (Ten Thousand Yen)
TTY 005
31 January, 2011
UK Funky/UK Garage

Ten Thousand Yen do it right again with the future flex of rising producer XXXY. "You Always Started" will bear obvious comparisons to early Joy Orbsion - before he went all house - but that's no bad thing as it's drenched in a soulful emotion that builds quite delightfully towards the hair raising crescendo. The guile with which XXXY teases out the vocal sample deserves a golf clap. Equally impressive is the psychedelic house thrust of "Ordinary Things", chopping up the vocal over a skipping deep bump, with a swathe of burning tripped out melodies the backdrop to purple synth flourishes and cheeky whoo samples. There's a simplicity to the production but it's overwhelmed by the thickness of sonic emotion XXXY achieves.

ALWAYS EVERYTHING: FALTYDL // YOU STANDIN’ CERTAIN

After writing some fairly extensive thoughts on Drew Lustman’s music for Sonic Router a couple of weeks ago, an offensively under-thought and under-researched review of his new album in the new issue of Vice (I know, I know, it’s Vice, but still, there’s no excuse for lazy journalism) prompted me to offer some more thoughts on the subject. It’s particularly related to his sudden flurry of new tracks, in the shape of new full-length You Stand Uncertain, the Hip Love EP on Ramp, ‘Regret’ on Hotflush and remixes of Kotchy, TEETH and Maddslinky.
...

"Lustman’s music as FaltyDL has always walked a tightrope line between complexity and danceability, influenced by a love of UK electronic music’s shattering intensity and sudden pinpoint turns. In that sense he’s tied far more closely to predecessors like Luke Vibert, Aphex Twin and even Boards of Canada (his music often shares their aura of fuzzy, nostalgic warmth) than to most of his contemporaries in the loosely defined ‘bass’ scene. "

I had to make a goa/psytrance mix for a DJing competition where they hook you up with a random genre. I don't know anything about the genre aside from a few names, there is some decent stuff but it's a BITCH to mix, and my mix came out embarrassingly bad.

I have an awesome breakbeat remix of Pocket Calculator :D

But if pressed... um... Tour De France, I think. Although that chord progression in Autobahn still gives me goosebumps...

That's the coolest idea for a comp I've ever heard.

It's a great idea for a comp. You join and give a genre, and then you get paired up with a genre selected by someone else. They have it every so often on the Tranceaddict forums... the last time I participated, back in '09, I got a tribal house mix (which was awesome and certainly up my alley... played lots of oldskool Steve Lawler-influenced stuff).

The contest is such a great idea since it really pushes people out of their comfort zone and causes them to seek out new stuff... this time around, a diehard Armin-lovin trancecracker got paired with dubstep, a psytrance guy got 2-step garage, a D&B guy got IDM, and me, a house guy got psytrance. The genre I was really hoping to get, was disco... not nu-disco or italo, just straight up 70's disco. I would have hit up my uncle and mixed all his old records on his 1200's if I got that, would have been SICK!!!

Here's a link to the current contest - you can d/l my mix on there, my name is Mr Game & Watch (I do a game related name on a music site, and a music related name on a game site ;) )

Big big week for releases.

canblaster-452x452.jpg

Today Nightshifters dropped Canblaster's Master of Complication packed full of 130bpm+ monsters.

Cop the free track, Clockwork - http://www.nightshifterslabel.com/NS020/Canblaster-Clockworks.mp3

Listen to my favorite track on the EP, Triple Ring - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-M74DYCFdg

Preview the rest of the album - https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/329945/Master Of Complication

"The much hyped and eagerly awaited 'Master Of Complication EP' by Club Cheval's Canblaster is finally here! This concept record, on the subject of time, speed and complexity of watches really showcases Cédric Steffens' versatile and ultra-melodic production style, with tracks ranging from 132 all the way up to 180BPM touching on so many different musical genres. This is clearly a huge record for Nightshifters, and they have once again gone all out with remixes, signing up Para One & Teki Latex and Bambounou for their own interpretations of their fellow Frenchman's tracks, and Nightshifters family Magnum and Jubilee who bring their own tastes of breaks, acid and UK bass to the package. 'Master Of Complication' by Canblaster is out now on Nightshifters and available from Juno or Beatport." - electric zoo

"If this (possibly NSFW, depending on where you work) video wasn’t enough proof that Nightshifters is dedicated to doing dance music a truly weird & original fashion, then the latest release from Club Cheval footsoldier Canblaster should do the job.

After turning everything from shattering windows, laser beams and old modem sounds into percussion on his past several remixes, 22 year old Cédric Steffens brings forth the “Master Of Complication” EP, which is “a concept record about time, speed and, well, the complexity of watches.”

As genre-defying as dance music comes these days, “Clockworks”, the slowest track (132bpm), kicks it all off with a soaring melody of reverberant House stabs and ticking watch beats. One notch faster is the UK influenced jam “Triple Ring” (140bpm), a footwork inspired fistfight inducing tune called “Lost In The Shell” (160bpm) and more. Teki Tek and Para One also contribute an android-human hybrid remix worthy of unravelling time and space as we know it."
