Hell yeah!

I finished my 4th listen and I must say there are quite a few standouts; Ifan Dafydd - No Good and Koreless - Lost in Tokyo to name a couple.

That being said, I still enjoy his mix for Benji the most, the amount of raw feeling in it will never be matched. I would put this right below that and Music to Skate to as his most inspired mixes. He really geeks out when doing these studio mixes.

Now onto something else, not entirely different.

Aeropland August 2011 Mix

1. NYAK - Goin Back
2. Mark Ronson - Record Collection ( Perseus Remix )
3.Honom - Bedcat
4.Fred Ventura - The Years ( Go by )

6.Elijah Collins & Nist - Love's Down
7.Neighbour - Summertime Girls
8.Cassius - Sound of Violence ( Aeroplane Remix )
9.Joe Goddard - Gabriel
10. The Opiates - Jalousies and Jelaousies ( Kim Ann Foxman Remix )
11. Art of Tones - Too Much

Aeroplane August 2011 Mix

Study this mix for lessons on building track selections.

I only checked this out of needing something else new to listen to, had to youtube it as soundcloud is blocked and I find out its an Aeroplane mix tape!? you had misspelt it so I thought it was going to be something else completley random.

Ive liked pretty much all the mixes Ive ever found of his.
Also the Juk Juk song and Barem mix also really good!

Kind of funny how many more genres Im willing to check out (and usually end up liking) now that its all not blocked at work!

I believe my onboard sound card is causing problems when using traktor or virtualdj. I posted about it before but basically I can notice a drop in sound quality after using the program for a little while.

anybody have recommendations for a very cheap, good sound card? under 30....is that ridiculous? duno prices on sound cards

Desktop or laptop? Most soundcards are built onto the motherboard now.

Desktop. I just have some kind of Realtek onboard soundcard thing but I think its crappy. I dont know why else my sound quality of the recording would decrease over time. It's not like I'm inputting live instruments, just mixing together mp3 files.

Speaking of laptop, my friend uses my Macbook Pro and Traktor for live mixing and hasnt noticed any of these problems. Stupid Windows machines.

I think Numark makes one for $30. Check zzounds.com. It's called the iO-something card, from what ive read it should be fine for you.

Joel: that Claude Von Stroke remix is ballller. Lost my shit when I first heard it.

New mix in the Berghain series, Berghain 05, has finally dropped and it is helmed by the stupendous Marcel Fengler. It's a killer mix and I think most everyone here should get something out of it. The way it builds is stellar.

Also, Cosmin TRG's debut LP just came out and it is everything. Everything. So, so, SO good.

Is it this? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZAFJ94/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I dont think thats what I need. I need an internal card I believe, since the problem isnt in the headphones or my equipment. The problem comes from the PC/program itself.

An external card will override the internal. You can't replace the internal card without opening it up yourself and putting in a new one, and, like Joelseph said (sorry if I misread it), but most soundcards are installed directly onto the motherboard. Otherwise, you have a defective unit.

Ah, so then I just set Traktor to use this external device and all should be gravy? I was just thinking of installing an internal PCI soundcard as it would have less clutter. Any suggestions on an internal one?

I was going to go to EZ just for Plastikman but thank god I didn't do that! Now it's just Richie Hawtin doing a one hour set. Besides, the tickets are HORRIFICLY expensive for me at the moment...

Who I'd be making time to see there:
Moby
Plastikman (again)
MSTRKRFT
Felguk
Carl Cox
Loco Dice
Feed Me
Porter Robinson
Chromeo
Fake Blood
Dubfire
Gui Boratto
Umek

How do tickets work for it... is it all three days only or can you go to individual ones?

PS. Feed Me - To The Stars. Nice driving, glitchy track.

I'm all dressed and ready to go to day 2 of Electric Zoo, today I'm all about John Digweed and Above and Beyond... First day was awesome, saw Tiesto, Joris Voorn/Nic Fanciulli, Josh Wink, Benny Benassi, Rusko, Carl Cox, and BT... along with walking around and listening to a few others for a bit (Loco Dice, MSTRKRFT, Felguk, Sunnery James/Ryan Marciano).

The highlight, aside from Tiesto's set, was a midget in a wheelchair wearing a shirt saying "I direct midget porn!"

See Porter Robinson! Other ones that *should* be good are Tenaglia, Steve Bug and Beardyman.

Other than that, I can only advise what NOT to see on that day:
Guetta - probably an average DJ set. I think I've seen him live, mustn't have been that memorable.
Bloody Beetroots - they were headliners at Creamfields in Australia last year and were SHIT. Packed a marquee but everyone afterwards said the same thing: they were boring as fuck. MSTRKRFT the same day rocked it.
Joachim Gaurraud - average music but the visuals are okay, very much a tryhard Daft Punk/Deadmau5-type show but just doesn't gel.
Skrillex - I'm not a massive dubstep fan, only when it's one or two tracks dropped strategically in a set... suffice to say, a "live" set where that's all you hear gets VERY annoying.

Have fun!

Wow. And not in a good way.

It sounds like something Chemical Brothers would release, something that becomes massive for no reason other than the artist behind it.

Subfocus is really good on that line up aswell but im abit late with the response!

That Justice song sounds pretty good to me. Not Amazing but not horribly bad either.

I have to say, after listening to EDM and going to shows for 10+ years... that EZoo was perhaps the best show I've ever been to. It was absolutely massive... I learned that I like trance more than I think I do (it didn't hurt that a lot of the trance DJs there were playing a lot of classic tracks I grew up with... probably because there were so many kiddies new to EDM there who wouldn't even recognize them), and minimal techno less than I think I do (Loco Dice I walked out I was so bored).

I have a whole shitload of photos to go sort through and upload, I'll share reviews of the event and pics later... But yeah, it was just crazy!

Just gonna ask again, anybody know of a good, cheap internal pci soundcard to use for mixing? I'm talking 20$ or less

With almost all sound coming onboard now the market is dying and sadly you will not find anything that stands out above the rest for PCI cards. Your best best (only option?) would be to buy this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102012

I might be able to mail you an older model of that card. Let me check around tonight for you.

Cool thanks, I appreciate it. I remember I even set up my PC with ASIO4ALL and still had the sound quality issues. I don't exactly know how that works, do you? If I still have issues even when using that, does that mean my motherboard audio is not the problem?

No dice on the external, you are going to have to purchase one. What issues are you having exactly?

I don't want to step on any toes, so I'll ask first...but is this thread legit for posting our own live mixes, or is there an ACTIVE DJ-GAF thread? :)

Maybe interesting to share here;

A few years back me and a few friends selected and determined over a 2 year time period our 256 most favorite electronic music albums. We started with about 400 nominated albums which we worked down to 256 entries that got entered into a double-elimination tournament.
Basically the voters had to choose each time between two albums which had been paired up with the specific request to take the time to carefully listen to each album before making the choice. Using double elimination furthermore meant that an album had to loose two duels before getting forced out of the tournament (and thus recieving a spot on the list). This did take forever and it was hard at times keeping up everyone's dedication.

The result is far from a perfect list but it's a very interesting list that can provide a great entry into the world of electronic music for those new into the scene. So a while ago I turned the Top100 of the list into a series of youtube videos with samples of each album and I figured why not share it here aswell;

***disclaimer; the voting group was severely biased towards electro, idm and dubtechno productions. Certain great pieces of music never got nominated so unfortunately never made the list while others got eliminated earlier than they should have and didn't make the top100 ***

Top100 Electronic Music Albums - 100-81
Top100 Electronic Music Albums - 80-61
Top100 Electronic Music Albums - 60-41
Top100 Electronic Music Albums - 40-21
Top100 Electronic Music Albums - 20-1

Since the tournament only ran till 2006 I also created a little addendum with more recently released albums.
20 Albums after 2006

Very interesting! A lot of omissions are debatable, but I can't really argue with the inclusions there (although there are some I'm not familiar with).

Surprised that Leftfield didn't rate a single mention, but as with all polls there's bound to be the odd shock or two :)

No dice on the external, you are going to have to purchase one. What issues are you having exactly?

Basically, say I start making a set of about 12 songs using Traktor. The first few songs will sound fine. Once it gets to about the middle or so, I can notice a drop in sound quality. It sounds almost like the difference between listening to a 320kbps song and a 128kbps song or something. It actually also happens when not even recording. If I just play songs back to back, practicing transitions, eventually the quality will drop. Annoying.

I had a very similar problem when using VirtualDJ. Halfway through I could hear scratchy/static noise in the songs, which come out in the recording. I have no problems when using Traktor on my Macbook though, so it must be something in my computer.

Leftism should indeed have been nominated. Somehow it fell under the radar with 400+ other albums. The omissions actually made me want to run the tournament a second time but the 2 year timeframe and full-on serious attitude towards each selection had kinda turned everyone off.

The addendum list contained these albums;
* Byetone - Death of a Typographer
* Flying Lotus - Los Angeles
* Carl Craig & Moritz von Oswald - Recomposed
* The Black Dog - Music For Real Airports
* Sync24 - Source
* Hol Baumann - Human
* Ott - Skylon
* Distant System - Spiral Empire
* Carbon Based Lifeforms - Interloper
* iTAL tEK - cYCLiCAL
* 2562 - Aerial
* Martyn - Great Lenghts
* Scuba - A Mutual Antipathy
* 2562 - Unbalance
* Basic Channel - BCD2
* Brock van Wey/Intrusion - White Clouds Drift On and On
* Yagya - Rigning
* Deepchord presents Echospace - The Coldest Season
* Intrusion - The Seduction of Silence
* Burial - Untrue
