Also, just to check as I didn't get a chance to explore, is this Atlantis?

It's the Lost City of Gold. Put a unit on it and you collect 250 gold.

Played the demo three times last night. I am totally hooked.

The demo just sold one more game :) Hilarious!
I'm even more interested in this than in the already ordered MGS4. Should get them both tomorrow...

Glad to see Eurogamer things my two most anticipated games are 8/10. Do they always review the best games low? I think both deserve a 9.

So, which is the version to get? 360 or PS3?
Going from the demo, the 360 has less screen tearing and a better framerate, but the difference is nominal. I guess it really depends on your preference. I.e., if you care about achievements, your controller preference, etc.

I'd say go with whichever platform most of your friends play on. This is the sort of game where it really helps to have people you know playing with you and not strangers.

What's this free downloadable "game of the week" thing?
From the Civilization Fanatics website:

A new "Game of the Week" (GotW) feature is a Firaxis-sponsored competition where, each week, Firaxis releases a new game to be played worldwide by anyone who is interested. Individuals can play the game as often and as many times as they want with the goal of getting the highest score.

I'm really curious about the DS-version. Portable Civilization on the train/toilet would be great!
I'm really disappointed that there isn't going to be a PSP version. It seems like the game would be perfect for portables, but I no longer have a DS (since selling it, this has been the only game of interest so far) and while I'm sure the game is still good, I don't like the look of it on DS. They could have probably done a better job emulating the look of the home console versions on the PSP.

Ended up buying Civ IV Complete yesterday even though I'm in the UK and the game is out tomorrow. :lol That's how much I enjoyed it. It's certainly a lot more complex than Revolution (at least on the default difficulty) but I figure that learning how to play it will help with Revolution anyway, even if things aren't exactly the same. I thought I was doing really well last night - managed to get a space race victory in my second game (and was just about to be voted into the UN as well) but my ranking was second-last on the list. :lol

When I get bored of Civilization Revolution I will probably buy CivIV for my MacBook Pro. Last civilzation game I played was Civ II.

I've started playing Civ4 again after trying the Revolution Demo. Plays like a dream with everything turned on using my new HD3850, and I can't believe the fun I'm having.

Civ 4 may very well be the best game I ever played..

Chili Con Carnage!
Seeing as Sony have let me down with the MGS4 bundle in Europe i think I might pick this up instead (save myself a cool £270). I still hate the art style but the demo actually felt like a bit of a kick back to old school Civ days before it became about founding Islam in 4 turns.

Weekly challenges sounds really cool too.

Can't wait to read some impressions from people across the pond and down under! Going to be a long 4 weeks waiting to play this game here in the States!

Is the street date broken?
MMaRsu is in the Netherlands, where they don't believe in street dates. Some UK people have got their ShopTo orders, though.

I'm also hopelessly addicted. I've taken to playing the Civ IV demo on my Mac, as I don't want to burn out on Civ Rev before I even get the game.

I wish the demo wasn't so huge. My internet has been garbage lately and 1.3 gb would cripple it I'm afraid. Guess I'll just have to wait until its release to get my grubby little paws on it.

As far as I know there is no street date, game came out today...

( but they do believe in street dates here for big games, GTAIV and such, so annoying )

Just played the demo on 360. This game is so damn fun! I haven't played a Civ game since part 2 since my computers always have a terrible graphics card.
It's just as fun as I remembered it being. Buying this is a no brainer for me!

Yeah the game is great but I don't really know what to say. I only played 1 game on easy just to get the hang of things. I've played 1 game of Civ4 in whole my life, and never before that..

But the game is great man! I just think the world is a little small compared to Civ4 which is a little too bad..

So how does the map workk? Do you start in a different location each time?

Is multiplayer region locked? If not I'll import the Euro version :D Must..have...NOW.

This.

And if it's not, I'm really tempted on importing the Euro version, but now that I think about it, if this game has DLC, I know that DLC will be indeed region locked, which is for every game not called SingStar.

Hopefully this is fixed in the retail copy. The tearing/performance on the PS3 version was pretty bad relative to what was being rendered.

I doubt the game is region locked multiplayer wise, because I see american people on the leaderboards so..

Oh man. This is going to be an expensive month for me as well. MGS4 + Civ Rev + WipEout HD ( if it gets released this month ).

This purchase is a no-brainer.

Wait, so the game is definitely region-free? Someone on another board just told me that the back of the box explicitly says:

""For use only with XBox 360 entertainment systems with "PAL" designation and PAL TV's capable of displaying a 60Hz signal"."

He said there wasn't a specific region code on the box, though.

In addition to my earlier comments I would like to add that my biggest fear would be that a new version of Civ would be too complicated for me after not playing since part 2. My fears were put to rest with that demo though as it's just as easy to start playing as I remembered it but with tons of options and ways to play. Great work on this version for sure.

Oh I'm sorry I thought we were talking about MP being region locked..don't know if the game is region locked I suppose it is..

Are games that have potential DLC usually region-locked on the 360? I imported Flatout for the 360 from the UK, and it was region-free.

Depends on the publisher. And I think they'll all have that 'only for PAL systems' blurb on them. I don't think it's connected to DLC, either. DLC isn't generally region locked as far as I know. Halo maps aren't, Rock Band songs aren't.

I doubt this is region free though. I don't think 2K stuff usually is.

Fuck man I'm finding it impossible to beat the computer AI on king difficulty.. :\

I manage to stay on everybody's good side, but then after a while Egypt just started attacking me, and they had like 10/15 cruisers, and lots and lots of bombers. How the hell do they get the tech so fast??

I was pretty good I had the best city that game, but I just turned it off because I was losing city's and it was a losing battle against them.

FUCK just lost 2 hours of my life playing a worthless match :( any tips?
