Arguably Smallville has been a hit and miss show with some people preferring the earlier seasons while others preferring the direction the show has taken in the later seasons.

With Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang) now out of the picture, the new producers are forced to take the show in a new direction.

[[[All Spoilers Will Include Spoiler Tags]]]

So what do we know about season 8 so far (highlight to read)?

-There are three new major enemies for Clark Kent which include Doomsday, Tess and Maxima.
-The Justice League will play a larger role in season 8.
-Aspects of the show will be darker then in previous seasons.
-Story takes place several months after the events at the end of season 7.
-Clark takes a job at the Daily Planet, also becomes closer to Lois.
-A lot of Superman lore is finally brought into Clark Kents life.
-Chloe/Doomsday/Jimmy love triangle brewing.
-Legion of Superheroes will make an appearance, from the future like the comics.
-Laura Vandervoort (Kara) may make an appearance in season 8 for a couple episodes.

More spoilers here: http://www.kryptonsite.com/

Most of those spoilers are taken from the first few episodes of season 8 and does not represent the entire season.

Despite losing one of the best characters for Smallville, I still am quite interested in season 8 of Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum may no longer be a series regular but that doesn't mean we will never see his character again. It is very possible for them to get him to at least play in an episode from time to time. The information we know so far for season 8 sounds pretty good.

There are a lot of people who have been disappointed with Smallville. It's definitely not a perfect show but considering the budget these tv shows get, I think they are doing everything they can to keep Smallville interesting. There is only so much anyone can do on a limited budget and lets face it, there isn't a whole lot of quality programming these days. I still believe that Smallville represents the better side of tv.

What about you guys? Are you interested in season 8? What would you like to see happen in season 8 and beyond? Season 8 will include 22 episodes and will begin airing on September 18th.

Well if she is, there is no mention of her yet in the first 8 or 9 episodes. I have heard the same thing but after that I have not heard anything more about hear appearing in the show. Not sure if it was dropped or perhaps she might appear in later episodes. Who knows!

Please god just let it be good without all the lovey dovey crap. I'm glad I don't have to see Lana and Clark trying to fall in love every damn episode anymore

i agree that the new lana is pretty ridiculous, but i still miss the old lana. the beginning of the clark/lana story was good. not until they started to develop a relationship did it get boring and stupid.

and i read that
chloe will be developing some new powers

i hope they can make this season good...im a pretty big fan and have been disappointed, save for a few episodes (the descent).

YYZ said:

braniac messed with lanas mind and made her go kind of brain dead. this forced kara to go with him on the promise that he will restore her, which he didnt. then later on we see kara trapped in the phantom zone i think, i forgot if they explained how or why, and clark 'destroys' braniac in the finale.

lex discovers the fortress of solitude, and has a fight with clark in the finale. it ended with the fortress falling on top of both. we dont know what happens now, but i read lex is just basically missing.

Lana gets her brain friend by Brainiac, eventually Clark kills Brainiac and Lana then realizes it's time to abandon ship so she leaves Clark a good-bye tape explaining that Clark was meant to have a destiny and that the two of them had no place for a replacement.

Lex's insanity finally leads him to the Fortress of Solitude where he finally gets confirmation that Clark is from Crypton. Brainiac had lied to him and told him that Clark was here to eventually destroy humanity. Lex went to stop him (secretly he wanted to control Clark) the episode was awesome but ended when Lex brought down the fortress and burried both of them. It was meant to continue in season 8 but Michael Rosenbaum didn't want to play Lex anymore so he bailed out without even finishing the episode. (spoilers in original post explain what will replace Lex).

Super Girl, A.K.A Kara was trapped in the phantom zone. It is unsure whether or not she will ever be able to escape while Smallville is going on. She may be in a few episodes on season 8 but she is no longer a main character. So they will likely just keep her in the Phantom Zone. Either that or they will find another way to off her character that fits in with the DC comics.

I have invested so much of my time in Smallvillie and its just got worse and worse (first could of series were ok) but its been such a cock tease of a show.

Thank god Lanas gone, I couldn;t stand that character, hopefully they will be a little more free to make something that isn't a pile of shit.

Fingers crosses tho I'm not getting my hopes up. This Clark Kent is the biggest Pussy ever, I hope they get his shit together.

Well, at least Green Arrow will be regular, hes the only bright point in smallville.

I saw all seasons, its too late to stop now. [at least no more kung fu lara :D]

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Lana is coming back for about 5 episodes,I believe around the November sweeps.

Hell yes, does anyone know when the new season starts? It is going to be interesting how they start from the finale of last season. Season 7 boxset is coming out pretty soon too, I have it pre-ordered so I can watch Supergirl in all her glory again.

I have watched this series for too long to give up now. I am in it until the bitter bitter end.

Is this going to be the last season, anyone know?

It was supposed to be and it should, but if ratings are high or the same and they can get Welling back for another season....they might do 9 and are leaving the door open from what Ive read :\

If 9 were to only focus on Clark finally becoming Superman I would be all for it,anything else bleh.

He's always been Superman, but whenever the show ends he needs to don the cape and fly with the Superman music playing. That would be the only fitting end to the series. I hope it doesn't end anytime soon, Smallville has always been a solid rock in terms of being a show I can depend on unlike something like Heroes where the entire season was a mess.

I don't see him as Superman,he's still Clark Kent in my eyes since he has to go to Chloe to solve 95% of his problems. He's had Superman type moments for sure, but he's not there yet in term of story/character development, which sucks cause this is season 8.

Hell he still cant fly, doesn't have a secret identity and still hasn't completed his training.

He's Clark/Kal-El...not Superman yet.

SO earlier this summer, I just took a week off of life and spent every waking moment watching Smallville from season 1 to 7 only skipping like 2 episodes.

I love this show, it's so good but then season 7 just fucked everything up, all of the developement that went into the characters just flew out the window, needless to say after a week of nonstop buildup I was very very dissapointed :(

I'm still anticipating this season though, can't wait.

Never has thread title had me laughing so long! This is still on the air? I remember quiting half way through season three it felt like a show thats been on for eight years and now it has!
How many episodes have there been where Lana and him get close only to have red kryptonite or I presume Lois now get in the way? 12? 62?

I think the best news for season 8 is apparently that the new directors are going to move a step forward in the Superman mythology. Rumor is that while there may be no cape we might see:

-Clark working at the Daily Planet (confirmed).
-Lois And Clark relationship building up (confirmed).
-Clark dawning a new secret identity, my guess is like in the old Lois And Clark show (highly rumored).
-Clark finally able to fly (highly hinted at).
-More Justice League and also the Legion of Superheroes from the future (Confirmed)

And probably more. Sounds like finally the show could possibly be moving forward. Something that all of us have wanted since practically season one.

I will miss Lex Luthor and I do hope that they find a way to make it seem logical for him not appearing rather then simply saying he is lost and try to move on. They could do something like mention a search for him and that, perhaps someone sent in a blurry picture of Lex somewhere in a different country or something, maybe have him trapped somewhere or something that just makes sense. Maybe Jor-El sent him to the Phantom Zone, lol who knows, just make it work, some how. It would be nice to see the actor return to do at least one or two more episodes sometime down the road.

Looks pretty good to me and most of what was shown in that trailer is most likely only from the first couple of episodes from season eight since only a couple were made so far. There will be an official trailer released soon. Possibly tomorrow!

Just dropping in to post my usual "the show should have ended after S3" remark. This show is running on 5 years too many now. S3 was easily the best in the series, S2 was pretty close, and S1, while quite rough around the edges/too many freak of the week episodes, still has a lot of charm that the later seasons are totally devoid of. This is supposed to be the last year, and for the love god, let that be the case.

I would have to disagree, S5 has been the pinnacle of the series so far. Season 4 was just plain weird, but what happened in S5 was just mind blowing. It's like you knew what happened was eventually going to happen, you just didn't see it coming. I thought the same thing for Season 7 as well. The Justice League in Season 6 I thought was pretty awesome.

Even more spoilers:

Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin:
- Apparently, the end of the season will please fans of Smallville.
- Turns out DC actually gets all the Smallville scripts for them to look at.
- This season, they reimagined Doomsday as a metaphor and gave him a face (Doomsday is played by Sam Witwer).
- This season they will introduce other DC superheroes like Plastic Man (who should appear in episode 2) and if I’m not mistaken, a character called Maxima who is a goddess that needs to mate but she can’t mate with humans (I’ll let you guess the rest, his name starts with a C.)
- This year’s other new character is Tess Mercer played by Cassidy Freeman. Tess is the VP for Luthor Corp. She will take over Lex’s place at the Daily planet. She is going to search for Lex Luthor and will realize that Clark might be involved with his disappearance.
- Doomsday will first appear in episode 2 as his human version, Davis Bloome.
- Lana will return, but unfortunately it might be bad timing.
- So far no Lex news, they are trying to work something out with Michael Rosenbaum to get him to appear this season.
- DC supervillain Legion will come to Smallville this season.
- They also mentioned that we would never actually see Jor-El on Smallville, for the simple fact that Marlon Brando did too good of a job and they cannot imagine someone else portraying him.
Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders:
- When asked why Clark doesn’t fly yet, they mentioned that a scene had been cut out from last season where Kara tries to teach Clark how to fly and she actually mentions how it could be a mental block.
- This season will continue in the transition for Clark to become Superman.
- This season they will be a lot in Metropolis as Clark starts to work at the Daily Planet.
- This season we also will start to see Clark saving more strangers (like Superman).
- Doomsday is a different take but the same mythology. It actually ties into something that happened last season.
- Doomsday is sort of a tragic story because you see someone that emerges as a villain but doesn’t start out that way.
Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow):
- Justin Hartley trusts the writers and has never had any problems so far with what has been written for him.
- He thinks the appeal to the character is because of the writing, his is just the face of it.
- This season, they explore the origin of Green Arrow, how he was stranded on an island and had to learn how to survive.
- In the premiere episode, we also get a few characters back like Aquaman and Black Canary.
- Justin Hartley mentioned how impressive the new sets are this season on Smallville. Turns out he actually gets lost on the Daily Planet set, because it’s huge.
- Justin Hartley did some research for his role as the Green Arrow. He mentioned how he wanted to know the whole mythology of the character.
- Turns out there are talks of bringing a sidekick in.
- This season Green Arrow will look at everything he has lost. It is a big burden for him and he wonders if it was all worth it. He starts a downward spiral and he goes back to womanizing.
- Justin Hartley mentioned how the guy with the costume goes down and the guy without (Clark) goes up towards getting “the costume.”
Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan):
- Allison Mack seemed happy that they were bringing new blood to the show this season.
- As for her relationship with costar Tom Welling, after 7 years, she says that they can finish each others’ sentences.
- This season there is a new love interest for Chloe as well as a potential wedding, a new job, and new powers.
- And turns out this Fall, Allison Mack will find herself behind the camera to direct an episode.
Sam Witwer (Doomsday) and Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer):
- Sam Witwer read about Doomsday in order to prepare for the part. He did mention once again how they have a different interpretation of the character in Smallville.
- Sam Witwer talked about how his character’s story is really sad. It’s about a guy (Davis Bloome) who deteriorates the more he learns about himself.
- Davis Bloome (who will become Doomsday) is a paramedic from Metropolis, who, turns out, starts a friendship with Chloe. He comes from the foster system, but is a really nice guy.
- At the beginning of the season, Davis Bloome blacks out more and more and decides to find out what he’s doing during those blackouts. When he finds out how awful it is, he deteriorates.

UPDATED 8/24/08: Laura Vandervoort revealed at the 2008 FanExpo in Toronto, Canada that she will be returing to Smallville for an episode to wrap up her storylines. Her episode shoots in October, which means it will probably land somewhere between #9 and #11 of the season. Sadly, Michael Rosenbaum has given no indication that he will be returning, and he has revealed that he is currently in negotiations for a film role. Micheal will not be retuning until he decides to come back, to guest star.

From WatchWithKristin:

Meredith in Houston: Hey, Kristin! You seem to be ignoring Smallville lately. Any juicy scoop to share?

Just had a long, juicy talk with new Smallville executive producer Darren Swimmer, and he told me that there will definitely be a Chloe-Jimmy wedding, but that it does not go according to plan. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bloody mess.

Doomsday goes off!! This is going to be awesome!

I got to say, this season really does sound like it might deliver in terms of quality. I think there is a lot to look forward this year to Smallville. Seeing how there really isn't any other show like it, I am surprised that it hasn't been getting that much love lately.

I know it sounds silly, but if you actually think about it, it's not that dumb.

This is Smallville, not the comics. And this isn't the comic version of Doomsday. We all know ti would be impossible to pull off the comic book Doomsday in a TV show (hell, Kara's gone this season because of CW's budget -- no other reason). So they're making him a human. But he's going to be a murderous serial killer that apparently isn't under his control.

Honestly, Doomsday in the comics is a fucking terrible character. There's nothing interesting about him except that he killed Superman. If he was just a regular character that he fought and beat over and over, he would be looked at as lame and dull.

Anyway, I'm excited about the new season. I'm in the camp that this is a show that has gotten better, for the most part, with every single season.

6 > 7 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 4

1 through 3 kept getting better, because while it still kept the basic freak-of-the-week style of the show, it added more to the plot and got more into their version of the mythos.

They jumped the shark with 4, but got back on track with 5, the first half of that season was amazing. After his dad died, it went down a little though.

But 6 I fucking loved, mainly because of Green Arrow. They picked an awesome actor to play him. Whenever he had a scene, he stole it, even from Clark. That's a big reason why I'm excited about season 8, and the fact that they have new producers behind it. These people were mainly behind the last 3 seasons, and now they have full control. So I have hope.

Only reason I liked 6 a little more than 7 was because of the lack of Green Arrow, and because we lost like 2 or 3 episodes, a few things felt very rushed near the end. But other than that, loved it.

I can't quite understand the GAF hate this show gets sometimes. It's entertaining, they really started telling much better ongoing storylines, introduced more DC characters, etc. It's definitely a flawed show, but it's hugely entertaining.

Supernatural is the better show though.

For those who care, the latest on Smallville season 8. First we have a rumor:

Question: Do you have any new Lois/Clark Smallville scoop? -- Trish
Ausiello: At some point within the first seven episodes, one of them will confess their love for the other. (Hint: The one doing the confessing is not pictured to the left.) Also within that time frame: Jimmy will ****** *** Clark's ******.

Source: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/

Secondly we have a very good interview with the producers of Smallville in which they talk about how they want to change the direction of Smallville, bring more DC comic stuff to life and generally improve the show. Definitely worth the read:

http://www.collider.com/entertainment/tv/article.asp?aid=8960&tcid=1

So the producers are hoping to keep the series going into a season 9 and beyond. I think there is a lot of possibilities with Smallville and it seems like the producers are looking at Lex leaving not as something bad but as an opportunity to finally change the show, bring in new characters and finally move things forward.

He probably wanted more money and they wouldn't give it to him (same reason why David Duchovny left the X-Files). They are trying to at least get him back to do one or two more episodes but so far nothing has been said.

I just can't believe that after 7 seasons the bastard still can't fly (except for the couple times when he "wasn't himself")

I think that's the only reason I watch the show is to wait for that to happen.

I guess it's pretty safe to say he'll get both costume and flying skills in the very last scene of the last episode, which is the main reason I'm still watching the show

some big ass threat walks through the city, Welling rips his shirt, finds a phone booth, pops out as Supes...and all of this, in typical Smallville fashione, won't last more than one minute

Flying is strongly hinted at for season 8 but the directors say no cape and tights. Not sure if there are legal reasons behind this or not. The producers mentioned how Metropolis crowded and how Clark has a hard time running to get where he is going. Comments like this were stated that leads the majority of Smallville fans to believe that Clark will learn how to fly this season. It could possibly occur in the "Legion" episode #9.

Here is a collection of screenshots just released for the first episode of season 8 entitled "Odyssey":

http://www.kryptonsite.com/odysseygallery1.htm

Story for the episode:

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE RETURNS TO FIND CLARK AFTER THE COLLAPSE OF THE FORTRESS; THE NEW CEO OF LUTHORCORP COMES TO TOWN — The Justice League, lead by the Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), hits the Artic in search of Clark (Tom Welling), who disappeared after the fortress collapsed. The team immediately has a confrontation with the new CEO of Luthorcorp, Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman). Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) is being held prisoner by a suspicious group who has discovered she has a new power, and Clark has been stripped of his powers by Jor-El.

Erica Durance and Aaron Ashmore also star. Kevin Fair directed the episode with the story by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders and teleplay by Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer.

Allison's interview: http://www.collider.com/entertainment/interviews/article.asp/aid/8924/tcid/1

Some Highlights:

-Some clarification on Davis/Chloe. "Davis is very interested in Chloe, and she's sort of like, What? Chloe's flustered and taken aback."

-Isis will be a "support system/halfway house/counseling center for the meteor infected."

- Chloe's encounter with "Brainiac affected her in a way that she didn't expect. Physical things will be going on for her, that's she's trying to figure and and get a handle on."

-Something funny happend when they were shooting Hydro. A fan kept yelling cut, so she a Kristin would stop. Tom asked them, "Why are we cutting?" And Allison replied that, "someone is yelling cut." They didn't know it was a fan who was watching them filming outside.
