Yeah, if it's the 360 controller. If the quality of the input devices is roughly equal then it will just come down to comfort. Some people will be able execute better on one or the other depending on their past experience.

so i take it that the ps3 controller would do just fine vs another guy on the arcade fight stick?

Well at least if my stick does mess up...at least I have a good basis to start stick modding. That and I feel that Markman wouldnt take this lying down. He seems to have put so much into pushing the pads and sticks that I doubt he'd let people (especially GAF) get stuck with a busted one.

The managers at those stores must be going to grab it early or something because my local store told me Wednesday even though I told them I have a preorder. I'm up in New Hampshire. :(

Yeah, my local Gamestop told me they are doing an airport pick-up and therefore will have the game tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm actually temped to convert my Wii Arcade stick into a wireless 360 arcade stick now.

When I got my TE the B button was kind of sticky. I opened it up and turns out the microswitch wires were just jamming it a little. I moved it over and snapped it back up, worked like a charm afterwards.

I still say go with the SE stick if you were in the first place. A few people have had TE problems too looking at the SRK forums.

Really? In a weird way, that puts my mind at ease. What were the problems with those?

Yeah, he's been telling people in the stick and fightpad threads to contact him if they have problems like that. I hope people do that before they start opening it up and trying to fix it themselves.

Man, I am having some second thoughts about that CE. That damn Viper figurine is like the size of an army man! Looks like its regular edition for me.

Main reason to get CE is for HD anime and download codes.

Don't know if NinaJHeartless posted any news....

But...

Some GameStops (at least in Jersey) ARE (yes, its official) getting SFIV tomorrow for those who pre-ordered. No need to wait an extra day. Also, while you're there, sign up for the tourney :D

I can't fucking wait!!!

Sven comments on TE stick availability, SE Stick problems and Tatsunoko vs Capcom

Are all of the Standard Edition Mad Catz sticks bad or only certain ones?

Sven: It's just a few (we have a couple dozen, none [have] problems I'm aware of). Most are fine.

It seems a few came off the line with the issues people are referring to. Mad Catz has already given directives to the factory to watch for the issue so future ones should not have the problem.

Are the Tournament Edition FightSticks here to stay? Or are they going for a 'Limited Edition' type of run? — Daemon Gildas

Sven: There will be more shipping over the next couple months. Not tons, not an unlimited supply, but "more."

I know you said you were thinking about it, but is a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom localization still being looked at? What would the chances be of cutting out the Tatsunoko characters and replacing them with another license? — Carlnunz

Sven: If Tatsunoko vs. Capcom comes over, it will be as TvC, not a different property. That said, I've got no new news at this time. Sorry.

sorry if old

Sucks that some sticks are fucked up, but honestly, what do you expect? Im not trying to say it doesnt suck, but those cases will be the minority.

You get a broken product, return it and get a new one, thats how this shit works.

So I finally got to play it today, and it's awesome :D

My friend brought over a copy and we played for maybe 4 hours. We were playing with the Madcatz pad (the Blanka one because I couldn't find any others anywhere) and it's pretty solid. Some things I noticed:

-Pulling off supers/ultras with Dictator, Zangief, and Guile are extremely difficult with the pad. If I were planning on using one of those characters as a primary I'd for sure buy a stick.
-Guile is pretty gimped - his attacks just don't do enough damage from what I can tell.
-Ken is okay, but Ryu is better. I always used to play as Ken back in the day, but he's much slower than Ryu and as a result seemed quite a bit weaker.
-Sagat seems insanely overpowered. Granted we didn't get enough time to really dig in too extensively, but Sagat is a beast. He has good speed, lots of different attack options and the amount of damage he does is borderline stupid.
-Dan is lame/hilarious.
-The focus system seems pretty cool and fairly deep. I much prefer it to parrying from SF3.

Overall the game is very solid and a lot of fun. It feels like the good old days playing Street Fighter II: Turbo on my SNES.

my se stick seems to be fine, and i've probably put at least 15 hours into it

i'm pretty sure it's just a minority of people who get to see these problems

Yeah. It's actually getting me to want to return my SE for the HRAP EX (360).

But at the same time, my stick hasn't been sticking, it's been great.

The natural way of things is that the group with defects in their sticks are going to be 20,000 x's more vocal than for those where the stick 'operates normally and expectedly' -- so, I figure at 30 days return policy with Fry's, and I'll stick with it till' then, worst goes to worst I'll just return it and order the HRAP from amazon.

The guy in the video reminded me of the Gamecube basement picture..... :lol

As far as the TE sticks, I would bet we'll have them for this year and then after that, they'll be discontinued.

Tell you one thing though, I am NOT buying one of the regular sticks just to make sure I don't get stuck with a crapstick.

NORMAL version of SF4 the game for me.

I don't care about the anime, I don't like Naruto art and I hate the Dark-Hado story line. I think it is Devil-Jin stupid. oooogggg dark evil intent...

I am not a fan of UDON art either, I dont care about the mini-guide

I only wanted a full good quality OST

I upsold to the CE just for the OST, hope it isn't like 5-track preview BS.

My copy of Gears of War shipped with a disk read error, no matter how I tried to fix it, it only got worse! That doesnt mean YOU need to return your copy of Gears for something else ;) [/analogy]

Uh, you pay $79.99 for a product, you expect it to work. That's a damned silly thing to say. Working retail, it's not that simple and people don't think that way. The more expensive the product, the less forgiving people are. Especially with supply being borked right now. Buy it, shit ain't working, that's probably it. One and done. Then word gets out...

Well, I already planned on getting a stick, but you just super sold it to me. To be honest, I had a bit of a problem with the(very brief) time ive spent on HD mix playing as Guile and Bison...unless Im doing something wrong, i couldnt get a super to come out for shit with a pad.

True, but you have to remember the minority who get bad ones are going to be much more vocal than those who get a stick that works the way they feel it should work. I'm glad Sven cleared it up in that it's not a universal issue with the SE"s, since mine is normal. But I'll keep a watch on it.

And shit, if it fucks up I'll just spend the 10 to 20 bucks and get the Sawna joystick which I was going to do sometime down the road regardless. You should be fine. Just keep your receipt :)

This.

Now to get my one-week-old, $80 stick in working condition I have to wait for Mad Catz to make good on their warranty? Kinda ridiculous.

It's not like I can just take it back to the store and exchange it for another one.

Oh come on, dont do the selective quoting thing. All Im saying is that if its broken, then return it. No matter how good a product is, there will be some defective units, and a select few of that small percentage are gonna blow it up and pretend everybody is gonna have that problem.

However, if MadCatz issues a recall tomorrow, I will shut up :p

Do they have charge Ultras? The same thing happens to me in HDR but with pretty much every charge move required. Hopefully using the fightpad won't gimp me while using Ryu or El Fuerte.

I know MarkMan/Mad Catz are saying the washer issue is limited to a certain batch of sticks, but how is the problem corrected on the good batches. Has anyone with a perfectly functional stick looked at the washer on theirs? Is the washer glued down properly or what? And if so, does it look like it'll stay that way? Just trying to gauge if the "good" batches are truly that or ticking time bombs.

Just like Microsoft cleared it up in that it was only 1-5% of 360 consoles that got the RROD.

weird how that can happen.

Yeah, Dictator and I think E-Honda both have Charge ultras/supers. Zangief and Guile just have motions that are difficult to pull off on the pad. I didn't really have too much of a problem doing normal piledrivers with Gief on the pad, but the super uses a double 360 motion and was difficult to do. Using the pad with any of the Shotos was fairly easy and I didn't have any problems. I plan on using Ryu/Sagat/and maybe Akuma and Gouken so I think the pad will be perfectly fine for me.

Nah man, that was a silly statement all the way around. "...but what do you expect?" Come on man. That was shortsighted.

Of course some products will be faulty, but you can't compare this situation to game discs or whatever. You think GameStop will carry ample supply of SE sticks? No. Any other store? No. It's not going to happen. It's $79.99 and it's going to be a pain to simply return and pick up a new one for people who pick this up.

The problem here is people ran into this problem right out of the gate. Not down the line through wear and tear. Right out of the box. That does nothing to instill consumer confidence, especially among a niche that's already pretty loud. Which is a shame.

Don't pass it off as "the minority barking loudest" because that minority is already your target audience.

But what to do? My stick is fine, I'll use it. If anything comes up -- I return it, and invest my 80$ into something else, or just upgrade the SE with better parts.

He did. the stick got stuck in different positions, that's why he took it apart. Surely you're not suggesting that the stick got fucked up because he switched the buttons around?

Cancelled my SE order from Amazon as soon as I saw the giantbomb video. And then... bought the SE @ Fry's later in the afternoon when I saw the stack of beautiful red SF IV logoed boxes calling out my name :lol

Like a lot of people, I was planning on swapping out the stick anyway. At least now, I don't have to wait since the Amazon ship date is unreliable.

In the beginning of the video he basically describes how he destroyed the button while taking it apart, he then explains why the stick doesn't work well. He NEVER mentions how well the stick worked before he took it apart. To me it seems like the guy took it apart and messed around with it for a while and destroyed it in the process.

The HRAP 3 and the HRAP EX are both great sticks and fine alternatives to the Madcatz products I wish this could be stickied, as it has been coming up a lot.

The EX2 and the Fighting Stick 3 are the lower-tier Hori products that you probably want to avoid if you have the cash for the $80+ sticks.

If you want a stick, and don't trust Mad Catz, hit up Arcade in a Box and custom order one.

I paid $170 for a stick a year ago, it's got less bells and whistles then the TE stick, but it works great, outside of sometimes the 360 not recognizing it at launch.

I can't get to get out of work this morning though.
