Uhhh... just don't ever bring this "tier list" article to SRK forum without good backup information of the changes between the arcade and console forum.

All righty :). I just don't understand the hostility a few individuals have for my opinion. It's just my opinion, not saying anyone has to fully agree.

I wish I had the online portion of the build to test more tactics and fighters against human competition, but alas, I wasn't able to.

One things an absolute though, Sagat is an absolute monster in SFIV. If you were to tell me otherwise, I'd think I was playing an entire different game.

That's totally fine. But since you've apparently played more than me, would you be so kind of telling me of which characters should be in the low tier?

I am sure my tier list will change once I get the full review code this week and it'll change over time as new strategies are formed for each character.

This is the current tier list in Japan (they've been play a lot longer than both of us). I know you might argue and say its not the home console, but trust, they're not that different.

1) Sagat 98 points (+17)
2)Ryu 88 (+8)
3)Zangief 87 (+7)
4)Blanka 84 (+4)
5)Akuma 83 (+3)
5)ChunLi 83 (+3)
5)Boxer 83 (+3)
5)Rufus 83 (+3)
9)Dictator 82 (+2)
10)C.Viper 78 (-2)
10)Ken 78 (-2)
12)Dhalsim 76 (-4)
13)Abel 75 (-5)
14)Guile 74 (-6)
15)E.Honda 73 (-7)
16)El Fuerte 69 (-11)
17)Claw 67 (-13)

Now below is the current top 30 players in Japan and who they use...

#1 Umehara (ryu) 154293BP

#2 Ojisan Boy (sagat) 139515BP

#3 Mago (sagat) 125820BP

That sucks, but playing SFIV with the D-pad is fighting an uphill battle
Confession time: I brought a dual shock gamepad to the arcade to play Tekken 5 because I can't do qcf on a joystick reliably. I would do the same for SFIV if I could. It's all about playing on what you're comfortable with.

Oh god no, Sagat is definitely in god tier away from all of the characters with Ryu, Boxer, and Dictator in high tier (in arcades anyway).
And it breaks if my heart Capcom decided that "a bit broke" Sagat is the best thing to keep in the console version.

Hopefully some more experts can get their hands soon into the console versions and start analyzing the changes between the arcade and console.

What, more specifically, puts Sagat at the top in your opinion? Outside of Tiger Shot and Tiger Knee being easy to pull off.

I think the issue is your use of the phrase "tier list." Though you have defined it to suit your purpose (no problem there), it has a very specific connotation to most players (not necessarily just the hardcore, but also those that are aware of the hardcore scene), which doesn't match what you posted.

Well the only big discrepancy is Blanka, Boxer and Zangeif. The rest are similar to where I placed them. So I don't see why people are moaning.

Oh, and my list isn't ranked in order; just divisions of excellent fighters, great fighters and good fighters.

The funny thing is I had the Boxer and Zangeif one time in my high tier but after getting my tail kicked by faster players, I thought their susceptible to fighters who are amazingly good at the game.

Anyways, thanks for the list.

Well his Tiger Genocide and Tiger Destruction are easy to pull off too and those are his super combo and ultra combo.

All of his moves are simple and, as a Sagat fanatic, I'm excited to use him online.

Arent they virtually the same inputs as the rest of the cast though, save charge characters who could arguably have easier supers and ultras to pull off?

Tiers are pretty decently established already, but as it's been mentioned in the past, the space between them are smaller than they used to be. It remains to be seen how the console specific guys fit in though. I expect Akuma and Gouken to place high though. All depends on how easy it is to combo/juggle into their Ultras/Supers it seems.

That's what I meant :)

All of Sagat's moves are basically the same in principle outside of altering between punches and kicks. The Ultra has you pressing the HML kick together.

Do we have any info on the calendar the Asian version of SFIV comes with?

Also, will the Japanese version support English language?

there are plenty more matches on Youtube with Mike Ross's Honda, including vs Chun-Li, Sagat, Blanka, Ken videos.

He loses to Ken in the vs Ken youtube

It's good to see Chun near the top. Not because I need to win or whatever but I just don't want to be frustrated since I'm probably going to want to use her mainly!

Do any of you have an idea of who you'd like to main yet?

For me it's going to be Rufus and Sagat. Have you joined the SFIV thread in the online/match-up forum?

I'm really excited this week to try out Fei Long and Dan. Above all, I want to play as Gen and see how he matches up against Akuma/Gouken.

Guys, I have a dilemma. I'm a casual player (played ST on SNES fanatically when I was younger though) and I'd like to pickup a better controller for SFIV.

I have SFHD on PSN and I'm fine using then DS3 D-Pad, but I want the 360 version of IV for the online play, more friends, etc. Which controller would you pick up, the Mad Catz SFIV Fight Pad or a Hori EX2 stick?

Those are my choices right now... what would you go with?

Ryu, and Blanka (I need my bites)

And will try and learn Sim and Rose. Don't really wanna main Blanka since he's my main in HDR, but definitely my back up character.

I would definitely go with the Madcatz Fightstick. From what I heard (I have used it only once or twice) the Hori one is pretty crappy and the Fightstick is really solid

I think I'm gonna focus on Rufus, Fei Long, and Sakura, though generally I like to mess around with everyone just for variety's sake. I'd have liked to main El Fuerte, as he's a ton of fun to watch, but his tier placing is pretty intimidating.

I'd like to try out the new characters before predicting too much but I'm most interested in Chun Li, Ryu, Cammy, + at least one of the totally new ones. I'm leaning towards Abel but wanna try Rufus 'cause he looks like way too much fun.

I truly hope that SFIV goes over well with the masses. I want there to be a huge demand for SFV and have gamers talking about the fighting genre again as if it was as popular as the FPS genre.
