The Official Thread: Square-Enix Show

Only 1:15 left, no?

The only important PS2 game yet to be announced in USA is Grandia 3 right? I know it is a japan party, but if they say something like "we expect grandia 3 to sell 1m worldwide"... I would be glad to hear that...

EDIT: i'm spanish and it is 23:50 (11:50pm) right now :/

damn squeenix is squeezing every last drop of graphics out of the PS2. I can't wait till they show off some next gen stuff^^

Doesn't look like they revamped anything at all. Why the delay I wonder. Just cuz Matsuno left? Maybe Enix was holding it back...

Well there was an article duckroll posted a couple of months ago that featured an interview with Matsuno and Sakaguchi taken from May 2004:
F: If so much worth is placed upon the details, then the question of time poses itself. Regardless of how much time you spend on it, there always something to do, right?

M: If we’ll ever really be finished with it. (Laughs)

S: Well, the release date will have to be pushed back. (Laughs) But with FFXII this is not really that big of a deal. At this time there are so few games that have reached such a level, and I also like that the whole game will be produced in this high quality.

M: In our development team with nearly 100 people, there were conversations like, “We don’t really have to go that far, right?” and even I thought sometimes, “Actually, now is good enough.” But in the end, all obviously wanted to go as far as is possible. In my team, there’s a type of vow of silence that we’d like to hold until the end. I’m apparently the only on who doesn’t know anything about it. (Laughs)

Rampant rumours of Matsuno leaving aside, the delay and lack of info could just be a result of Matsuno and the team hard at work applying all these details making FFXII more ambitious and epic than the previous titles before it. At least, that's what I hope anyways...

I also read that during development most of the team was also struck down with illness and also lost a key development staffer who passed away last year which is what also contributed to the delay, is that correct?

They have been very quiet about it. You probably got this info from the 2ich forums? Is that right? I heard there's a lot of bs there.

I hope the original team worked hard to develop the most epic and the best FF game ever.

Is he really that ambitious? but it's his own team thats working on it, so they would understand his attitude.

I wonder if the same amount of work and dedication went into Vagrant Story,

right down to the impending release of next-gen consoles (a là PS2)

I hope it'll recieve the same 40/40 famitsu score :P

I haven't heard about a key staffer passing away, but there's been tons of rumours about general turmoil in the team, with programmers and artists coming and going.

I would assume a ton of work and dedication went into Vagrant Story, otherwise it wouldn't be as awesome as it is.

Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that VS was restructured late in development as well, like some areas were added at the last minute to lengthen the game.

Nope I actually read it here at GAF IIRC, infact I think was mentioned in duckroll's 'FFXII Wait Thread' but I'm not too sure.

If there is no conference and it is just people walking around different playable games and videos, what makes you think they will show anything PS3 related?

I don't expect anything PS3 related, but it is not true that there are no presentations

How much longer? Its about 12:56 am over here(Amsterdam) and I'm not sleeping till I get my FFXII fix.

Is there any way the first post can be edited for links/release info? All I want to know are the JP date for FF12 and no pictures, and if a remake for Dragon Quest 6 is being announced.

Don't want any pictures giving anything about the games away, if possible.

Topic starter? That'd be really nice if you could confirm/deny if you can do this.

VS had more planned than what made it into the game; they had to cut back from time + financial pressure iirc.

Will there be a webcast or do we just wait for the trickle of news to come out?

Trickle,

and don't get in the way of mine

:D :lol

Ok i don't see those target lines, icons and whatnot in the pics of FF12. The battle mode is back to something more traditionnal? (if yes, THERE IS A GOD)

i was under the impression that matsuno did in fact leave, and then was told i was missing out on a GAF inside joke. well, ok, but now i think i need to be refreshed -- has he actually left the development?

w00t. It's on now, eh?

I'm hoping to see

- Crisis Core
- WTF this new Mana game is
- FF7 remake
- secret game sequel: Chrono 3 and/or PE3 (doubtful, just wishful thinking)
- FF12's battle system moving far away from any FF11 influence
- new KH2 worlds

IGN said their Japan guy is ready to deliver the news! The show should have opened a min ago!

Excellent! :D
Do we actually have a time when the FFXII presentation for the day is?

Sweet, I didn't notice until today that Utada Hikaru is doing the song for KH2, song title "Passion". Then again I haven't been following the KH2 topics for a while.

Damn it. They should at least show us a couple of the six DS games they're working on. :(

Or hopefully more, seeing how well it's doing, especially in Japan.

Kingdom Hearts 2 stuff

Well, the Demo is two worlds: Land of Dragons and Enchanted Castle. In the Enchanted Castle portion, Beast is one of your teammates.

The Blue Drive Form is useable, however the name has not yet been revealed.

In both of the two worlds, each has one playable "stage". Most likely two special "Mission" battles and two Boss battles.

A new poster has been shown for KH2, but what that poster has on it hasn't been revealed yet.

A lot of stuff we already knew of, but it's still something.

btw it's from gamefaqs so it might false info!

Don't expect any next gen stuff IMO. This show is about Square Enix's PS2 games and the highlight is FFXII!

I'm sure they will. They probably wont get top billing next to most of the PS2 titles, but there will be new info.

I really don't understand why they'd keep on announcing new PS2 titles. They may seem lik easy money almost, but a lot of people are more excited about the next-generation of consoles or even the handhelds.

Not that I won't get Dragon Warrior VIII, Final Fantasy XII, Grandia 3, etc. or anything...

Being excited about the next gen doesn't mean that they won't buy current gen games. The best selling PSone game in Japan came out after the Dreamcast and PS2.

because they are a COMPANY IN IT TO MAKE MONEEYYY? The ps2's install based won't be matched by ANY next gen console (or indeed all of em combined) for a looong time to come.

Do you still believe in FFIII DS? That's adorable.

Why? People still believe in GT4: Mobile and we haven't heard a thing on it yet. There was actually news a couple months ago on how Square-Enix changed the battle system around in Final Fantasy III by adding a Defense Meter and stuff.

S-E's just changed from their announcement of the show to a solicitation for Dirge of Cerberus beta testers on Japanese POL; it appears to be played through the POL system.
