lol at all the people that said Nate would out grapple Silva. A useless BJJ blackbelt indeed. Rich has to be shitting himself.

So accurate..
I was impressed with Silva's striking as usual, but his defense on the ground and his sweep was beautiful.

Even when they take him down he's got those amazingly long legs. He's like a python that just bottles them up. He's dangerous as hell on the ground with those kicks too.

The last 2 fights were the best even though they were short. I would've loved to see ths Silva/Nate fight go longer, I had Nate winning the round up until the last exchange

I wonder about Sherk. As long as he can stay within that weight class he's strat of smothering everyone seems unstoppable, but you can't keep having him headlining PPVs if he's going to be MMA's version of John Ruiz

Get GOMI to drop down to 155...

I wanna see Gomi vs Sherk :P

Actually theres a lot of LW's I'd like to see against Sherk.. but none of them are in the UFC.
Oh.. I guess theres BJ.. but I like him fighting at 170lb.

Gomi, Hansen, Aoki, Yamamoto

Id love to see how those guys handle Sherk's power. Especially Aoki.

Hunter D said:
Sherk vs kid or aoki would be nice. I think Sherk would school gomi because gomi's grappling isn't good enough.

Hey don't count my boy Gomi out, but sadly BJ showed the blueprint to beating Gomi, superier wrestling/grappling. This card was pretty good, glad Rashad didn't lose I was going for him all the way. This fight made Tito kinda fall a couple of notches in my eyes, not to take anything away from Tito.

Bah, I feel cheated in the Silva/Nate fight. Early standup and early stoppage. Silva's got some hard shots though. Guess I should have listened to Randy's picks.

After the second knee, Sherk looked like he was expecting them and stopped caring. If you know you're gonna get kneed in the face but you still go for a shot, you're tough as f**king nails. As much as I like all the other LWs, the only one I see beating Sherk is BJ.

Sherk vs Penn in November and Cro Cop vs Big Nog if Mirko wins.

this came out of the press conference

I dont know what the hell BJ is gonna do to win that fight...
but I know he can do it! :D

How was it a early stand up? Nate wasn't in Silva's guard and Silva was the one doing damage from the bottom and going for sub attempts.

Outstrike him, stuff his takedowns and possibly sub Sherk.

If either fighter is active, there shouldn't be a standup.

Edit: I'm suprised Nog isn't getting a title shot. Maybe Dana is confident he'll get Fedor.

But Egg Nog is such a super awesome badass that herring should have never had him that position in a million trillion years. Even iF someone cut of Egg's legs and gave Heath a sledgehammer Herring has no chance so how could he have know to press the ATTACK!?!?!

Yeah..
That Sherk performance clouded my judgement for a bit.

I forgot that BJ can handle Matt Hughes.. he should do alright against Sherk :P

Good news! BJ Penn new LW champion. It sounds good. I am tired of Sherk. I'm ready for BJ Penn to be champ.

Damn, I suck with the bets in the overall stats. Note to self: stop taking underdog risks. Well, win or lose that last bet, I was still going to go all-in on Randy. At least it wasn't so bad in the UFC 73 stats.

1 55 Boogie

3 51 Tinman
4 50 dem
4 50 Ridell
6 47 DD-11

I picked 7/8, but I suspect that a lot of peeps did well by picking the faves. If hadn't picked Hermes to upset Sherk then I would have had a full house.

I think that I only layed out about $250 total, so my slight earnings were expected. That said, Is there any way to see who earned the most points in the group for this event? I think it may even be possible to win more points even if you picked fewer winners?

According to the standard set by past ref stoppages, I think that Nog/Herring should have been stopped. That said, the outcome of that fight indicated how some previous stoppages may have been a bit too cautious. Then again, like Rogan said, Herring should have been on to him full ball and/or again from the start of the 2nd.

...

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with Sherk, especially with getting mount on Franca so early in the first. It's just that BJ is the only LW who can beat Sherk in three areas of the game (standing, takedowns, ground) but as the fight goes longer, Sherk can steal a win through conditioning and mental toughness much like BJ's past loses.

Yeah, I posted event stats for 73 alone. I'll edit to make that clear. At the playground, check 'Event Stats' after going to 'My Fight Camp'. And yeah, I'm 7-1 but ahead of dem in points for this event who was 8-0.

They should definitely let it go longer in a title fight and give these fighters the benefit of the doubt at the top of the game. Nog schooled Herring from beginning to end. Herring just got a lucky kick in and went head kick happy the rest of the fight.

The reason there wasn't a stoppage in the Nog/Heath fight is because the referee knows who Nog is. Ever see Wand vs Fujita? Wand was wailing on a staggered Fujita with soccer kicks and punches, but the ref let Fujita take a quality beating before the stoppage because he knows Fujita has a granite dome. See also Thomson vs Frye for an example of referee respect on a stoppage.

As for the guy who told me Nog beat Heath twice already...umm, no shit? What did that have to do with what I said?

Did anyone see any ESPN/Sportcenter coverage on the event? I waited all night and didn't see shit. Looks like since Chucky got knocked out, suddenly "ultimate fighting" (f*cking nonsense) isn't worth covering. But we still get MLS scores on the ticker. Go figure.

Hopefully, this fightreport.net gif works here this time:

Nate made the mistake of flopping to guard after the reversal instead of fighting for top position or scrambling out. Bad move against a guy who can rain bombs from the top.

And you guys can go laugh at the post fight press vid at ufc.com. Tito throws out another injury excuse along with excuses for fence grabbing which sets Rashad off.

had a hell of a lot fun at arco last night, definitely something i'd like to do again. also, ran into nate diaz, shock his hand. that was pretty cool

Tito threw out the injury excuse?

At the prefight press conference he was all INJURY FREE.. NO EXCUSES

Guy has no shame.

White said Rua's most likely first opponent will be Ryoto Machida (10-0), though Griffin said he would like the fight.

Yeah I noticed that and presumed respect was the reasoning behind it too. That and Lavigne is a pretty decent ref. Mino wasn't out at all on the ground after the initial knockdown. Then on the flip side, you have refs stopping the fight for ineffective GnP to a guy's forearms when he's covered up.

Nice f'ing reversal from Silva. OUT WRESTLED MARQUARDT who supposedly was the better wrestler.

Silva must have bricks for hands, because one hit and Nate is out.

Rich Franklin after Anderson Silva destroys Nathan Marquardt.

And to repeat, Big Nog has one of the best chins ever!!

WTH was Herring doing? He could have won the match and I can't think of a single good reason for him to just STOP, stand up and then basically leave him alone for well over a minute into the next round

Tough fight IMO. Lyoto is built to counter Shogun's striking. It's also bad because Lyoto trains with Anderson.

Machida vs Shogun will be one hell of a fight..

I think Shogun will be a lot bigger though..

Shogun's takedowns save him when he gets outstriked on the feet, like in the Li'l Nog and Overeem fights.

Thoughts after reading this thread: Max_PL is an idiot and shouldn't be talking about MMA.

Thoughts on the event:

BIG NOG ALMOST KTFO'D?! 2007 is INSANE! He recovered well and deserved the win, though he got a gift by Herring not coming out aggressive in round 2.

Sherk is an animal, but obviously lacks finishing skills against decent competition. He never really went for any sub attempts, and although he threw lots of punches, he obviously wasn't trying for a KO.

It will take a Penn or a Gomi to beat him, I think.

Tito/Rashad: Yep, that was a draw. I think the size advantage was too much for Rashad, it really looks like he should be at 185lbs.

I don't think we can call Tito a cardio machine anymore. Against both Forrest and Rashad he has been gassed in the 3rd round. And once again, Tito shows that he can't finish anyone not named Ken Shamrock. Did Tito even land ANY punches when he had Rashad on the ground?

Silva demonstrated again just how scary he is. The best striking at 185lbs, and able to neutralize you on the ground.

Florian also demonstrated that in spite of his seemingly unimpressive record (6-3, he is a top fighter at 155lbs. He looked very impressive.

And so much for my Mark Bocek hype :(

Nice to see me come out on top of the MMAplayground picks :D

Though obviously my wagers leave much to be desired.

So do I look slightly less retarded for picking Herring now?

Yes, you do. Big shock to see Nog rocked like that.

Man I hope Herring flogs himself after watching the tape of his fight. He had it won... f*cking jackass.
