Sign me up for the crew that wants a revamped trial/challenge system.

I agree. The training mode needs simple things like, "As Ryu, use down+FP to anti-air a jump-in attack." Or, "Walk in to bait and sweep, block and punish." These are the basics missing from people's game.

I think the current trail mode style makes newcomers think combos = wins.

I'd say SF4 is the opposite, turtling is hella easy in the beginner levels, but once you hit advanced play then offense/footsies are more dominant (SBO grand finals, evo grand finals, Alex Valle, recent tourney vids linked by oichi esp. ac revenger and the bison, etc. etc.)

Where as TvC is lawlz noobs, time to RTSD, experts?! UP BACK!!
i understood about 30% of this post but it seems like you present a good argument

I agree too.
Training mode could also use some kind of video feature that showed you how to not only perform combos;but also the rhythm that is needed- in terms of button presses, in order to perform them.

Several people above have mentioned VF's training mode. Is it anything like Tekken's mode, where it does just this? Where it has a display of button presses, with the timing?

Oh, ok .
I knew that i saw this type of feature from somewhere, but wasn't aware of what game it was from.
But then again, i'm not sure if learning the timing and all the in's and out's on your own, is inherently part of the fighting genre.

VF4; VF4 Evo

VF4 and VF4 Evo in particular had spectacular Training Mode Tutorials and they helped allot for an intermediate like me to grasp to new gameplay mechanics as well as the old

SF4's Trials are garbage

The VF4E training mode (the ONLY true training mode, imo, all others are just practice) teaches you EVERY mechanic in the game and teaches them to you in an easy to understand method. Gives you the correct joystick inputs in normal speed, slow motion and also while you're doing the lessons yourself. Tells you how it works, why it works and the benefits and disadvantages to each. There are multiple levels of this, as well, as well as character specific trials for some of their particular unique moves.

I was a sad panda when 5 didn't have a similar mode, but most of what you get in VF4E's would translate over well to 5, the only thing truly missing is some bounce comboing and OM.

EDIT: forgot to mention while I was posting this at work:

When you're trying to do a lesson during training, if you mess it up, it will show you WHY you messed up, with 100% accuracy. I tried a number of times to fool it and not once did it tell me wrong. I also forgot to mention that it doesn't just make you "do this 5 times successfully" on everything, it will also get you to do it consistently by having ones where you have to do it correctly (like in the case of Evading Triple Throw Escape Guard, or ETTEG) a number of times in a row (in the ETTEG example, you're evading, throw escaping and guarding at the end of the evade to do a sort of triple option select of defensive maneuvering, and each of the 3 actions the CPU takes is RANDOM).

Ya know what, fuck it. If you have a PS2 or a BC PS3 just get the game at Target or Best Buy or something.:lol

One very important thing to me...

I wish Capcom ADDs the "replay video" after you finish the round, a little replay would be GREAT with differents angles, zooms, and many things!!
I saw it on the EX series, I love it!!

Imagine... this picture in motion, would be GREAT!

Oh haha lemme rephrase

sf4 - turtling is easy at beginner play, at advanced levels offense is good

(the opposite) TvC - rushdown is easy at beginner play, at advanced levels turtling is good

AND YES! VF4evo training was fuckin awesome.

That would be cool.

But for GAF, all it would result in is 234% more TTOB whining and bitching.

I would love this. Man, I wish I could control the camera when I take screens.

Yeah, auto replays can kiss my ass. This is a videogame. We don't need slow-mo footage of me squeaking out a jab after a whiffed SRK to win a round. Now the option to save any match after playing, that is a great thing.

I'm not sure I understand why there's more turtling as you get better in TvC. Is it just because you can't afford to open yourself up to ridiculous combos vs. better players?

That VF4 Evo training mode does sound awesome.

Everyone
I hate the Sonic The Hedgehog 4 thread because at first glance it appears the Super Street Fighter 4 thread had been bumped.
Thatisall

Any of the people that have played various builds know the exact extent of Blanka's new alt? I'm assuming it's just a Dan gi, but, whats the kanji on the back? I'm assuming it'll be something different than father?

Bursts, baroque cancels, and up back are all really good.

I'm bored:
c.LK c.LK -> Uppercut FADC Ultra works with a character! Guess which one?

Hakan is Hakan. He's an oil wrestler. Think lube, not black gold. He is going to incite a lot of hate.

"c.LK c.LK -> Uppercut FADC Ultra works with a character! Guess which one?"

Gotta be the classic Dudley c.lk x2 hit confirm. That's my final answer, Regis. (or is that a rhetorical question?)

Oh, you... Such a tease... XD

Hakan sounds like a bit of laugh (like El Fuerte) in design, which is strange for someone who was rumoured to be working for SIN. We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose...

O-O~

PS - Sorry, been lurking NeoGaf for a good while... Hi y'all... First post and all that... ^_^;;;

"uppacu-"

*flash*

"corkscrew blow"

*edit*

Also can someone point me to a vid of TvC (which isn't the Japanese version - the turtle argument can be valid there as to avoid infinites) where its two high level players turtling? I honestly cannot find any. I can't see how that game could be any more turtley than SF4.

Ha. This guy. :lol

edit: Dammit, I scroll up and sure enough it was already said. :lol

Itd be funny if Hakan cant be thrown because he's too slippery.

Don't forget that the game would record every move that you make and let you know what all your weaknesses were, down to how often you blocked mid attacks or successfully used crouching dash.

Capcom probably doesn't do this because there's nothing in the foreground, so even if they implemented it they'd either have to restrict the camera heavily or rework all the stages, which would mean fewer stages overall.

edit: Danm I forgot how much of an offense machine Ibuki was...
It's really sad that none of those block strings would work in SF4 against characters with uppercuts.
