The Outer Worlds 2 Pre Orders Open Sunday

They are banking quiet a bit on this and promising big things.

Hopefully it lives up.
I'm not worried after Avowed. I think gun combat is easier to nail than melee and magic, and they already did that with flying colors. Is this the first Unreal 5 sci-fi game? Should be a looker too.

Unless they turned the gameplay into sci-fi avowed so i can at least enjoy that and ignore the dogshit writing, i'm out.

I saw entire ign series covering this game.

They specifically said this is a "big boy rpg". Hopefully its like that.

From what I saw, seems to have even more in depth systems than Avowed.

Enjoyed my time with the first one.

Wonder if this will have sava data carry over for world decisions ala Mass Effect. That would be great.

I tried to go back and play the original for a second time a few months ago, and it really isn't as good as I remember it being when it first released. I enjoyed my first playthrough, but I got bored extremely fast trying to play it again

Didn't like the first one's tone. If everything is a satire, nothing feels grounded; no real emotions, the violence and the jokes doesn't have space to breathe... Very shallow game. Better than Starfiled, tho.

Got to the beginner town in the first game and quit. Everything about it was boring or insufferable (mostly the characters).
Maybe they improved but I doubt it. Obsidian pretty much said they are going for mediocrity.

Well yes but my shoelace is also better than starfield so that's kind of a low bar.
I agree with all the rest.

I just don't give a sheet. Their writing is banal and uninspired. They have shown they are competent in gameplay now with Avvowed, but that's not what I'm playing an Obsidian game for.

Is going to be such a shit show.

The first one was a hard mid, idk why they did a sequel, and after avowed

just lol
You just know it's going to be uninspired GamePass slop geared for "mild success". Haven't seen anything to the contrary really.

It's not going to be terrible, just very bland and non-offensive in every single regard.

I'll keep my distance after getting suckered by the trailers for the first game and believing the hype.

Just because Bethesda gradually got bad at making "Bethesda games" doesn't mean other developers aren't also losing their touch. New Vegas was a long time ago.

I did like that one robot that talked in advertising phrases during battle though.

They have repeatedly said its their biggest RPG they have ever made. Compared to size of New Vegas even.

How good it is remains to be seen.
Fuck. I like the shorter games because I get sick of games that are too long. I have a job and kids to take care of. Putting 60-80 hours into a game is not something I like doing. Nor is not completing something I started. I usually end up hate-finishing these things.

There are some games which become more impressive with size. A lot of rpgs belong to that category especially if gameplay is good.

But its all in there marketing. Game needs to come out before I make any conclusions on it.

The game looks so bad I have never had this reaction to a AA game before. Even with OW1, the art style looks bad, character open their mouth and I want them to stfu. This old style writing of everybody is just so damn keen on taking your help or trusting you or even when betraying you feels shallow and lifeless. Cringy dialogues and NPC interactions.

Their borderlands approach to humor and guns (oh here's a gun that can throw tumors that explode and you can eat them too) just isn't charming or witty enough.
Lets hope people like this because we won't know of its success. Maybe comparing it to ALTERS (gamepass title) and DOOM.

These pre-order numbers will be horrible. This game is gonna bomb so hard.

$80 for AA game deserves to fail.

a AAA game for $70 vs. a AA game for $80.

As I said, it's gonna bomb so hard!

Funnily enough the first game in the series was rated higher than DS1.

Now from the previews it seems like it's massively improved in every single way and with much larger budget.

On metacritic, yes. You're correct.

Funny enough, they both released very close to each other, within 2 weeks of each other.

First one is one of my favourite RPGs. Hope combat will be a bit better with AoE weapons like grenades or launchers. I really like the skill system of the first one, where points in a main skill increased all of the sub-skills to degree until you have to specialize. Or that you could earn traits through your playstyle, like fear of robots which gave you some permanent malus but also a trait point. And it's one of the very few RPGs where charisma and speech skills also have some bonuses in combat.

I hope they stick to their core RPG mechanics and don't dumb it down like Fallout 4 does to Fallout 3 and NV.

In regards of the topic of pre-order: useless for me on a digital product that can't get out of stock and has a delivery time only limited by your internet bandwidth. No amount of digital gimmicky crap could make me pre-order a digital product.

They have put out a lot of info on character building.

I think it does away with SPECIAL system. Replaced it with perks, skill trees, flaw system etc.

They did mentioned that those stats Strength, Dexterity, Luck etc makes things confusing and take away some flexibility in making builds. I do agree to some extent. Fallout 4 system got quiet good towards the end of my play-through when I had ran out of relevant skill options and started towards a build with different weapons.

It doesn't allows for respec, so not completely casualised.

Gunplay seems improved along every other aspect @6:30:

You're talking about F4?

It's not just builds, though, but also the whole role-playing part. New Vegas had also a lot of skill checks in dialogue, e.g. if you wanted to do surgery to someone you better have a high medical skill. If you fail to do so, there was some hilarious dialogue lines and responses from NPCs. If you passed the skill check, there was a different, way more convincing line. It was great for immersive role-playing.

This was sadly completely absent in F4. Dialogue choices were only: yes, sarcastic yes, more info please, no.

No, Outer Worlds 2.

FO4 didn't had that stuff cause it was more of loot and combat build based rpg. Those situations were simply not present, more than your character not having those build options.

All those skill checks etc are present in OW2 from what I can tell from previews etc. they have done away with strength, dexterity etc. All the stuff that makes little sense without reading a guide.
