Still should've been Earthshaker :(

PS. Great score on ST, nicoga! Do you know how steep you have it setup?

On another note, I received a stack of LEDs from Comet Pinball (give them a go, guys... super cheap international shipping and VERY cheap globes) and got to kitting out my RBION w/ LEDOCD. Game looks vibrant as hell, and with LEDOCD board, zero strobing and fully customisabe brightness and on/off times (so they closer match regular incandescents rather than be hard on/hard off).
If you have an older game that you want to LED, I highly recommend it. Especially if you want to have LEDs but don't like how harsh they tend to look. Adjustable brightness and you can (it's recommended you *do*) use cheap globes.
Around $200 for the board (I think?), and ~$16 for 25 single-SMD (bright as hell) globes. Two packs of those and a few extras, and I was right to go.
Seems to handle fading/half-brightness from the MPU as well, with smooth transitions and little visible brightness stepping. The TPA version of RBION doesn't handle this correctly and you can see the flickering on the inserts when it's meant to fade, but this board handles it fine!

www.cometpinball.com
www.ledocd.com

Be aware, they only do fairly limited runs at a time, so you may need to wait for a board.

I really need to learn about LEDOCD as I have NO idea what it actually does, haha. I'm actually excited to see your game once you get it finished up. RBION is going up in price, so I'm jelly you grabbed it when you did!

And my ST is set ~6.8-7 degrees. The way my carpet is in my office/gameroom, that's as steep as I can get it. It's awesome - just the right slope! And I had another game where I hit KM multiball shortly after my new GC score and managed 86m. Maybe I'm getting better?

What LEDOCD is, is it basically flattens out the voltage applied to LEDs. Voltage used on regular lamps is usually ~6.3vAC. The AC caused flickering, and the LEDOCD processes this into a higher-frequency voltage at 240HZ (far less visible to the naked eye). This also means at that frequency it can adjust duty cycles so that on/off duration/delay can be tweaked.
The LED OCD website has some good examples of how it works :) Useless for your STP, but worthwhile for pretty much everything older. I believe the guy sells them for everything from System 11s (I still want to get one for HS) right up until the most recent incandescent games like Metallica Pro. Hell, pretty sure it even works with Star Trek Pro (but not the premium or LE as they have RGB LEDs).

I'll get some video of it with/without the OCD (with LEDs installed). The difference is staggering!

We'll be getting a house in the next six months or so, so already salivating at the prospect of getting a pin (and frankly looking at houses with that in the back of my head).

So many decisions to make, including:
Which pin?
This is an incredibly tough one. I love the feel and depth of the new Sterns but in terms of being in a family home (we have two young daughters) they're pretty limited appeal. Metallica and the like are really "man cave" material, which is not ideal for me. So possibility for older broader-appeal pins like Simpsons but then you get into issues of finding a good model and more upkeep.

Where?
Tough to decide without literally having a place yet, but again it's in the back of my mind. The default seems to be stick it in an "arcade room" of some sort, or the garage, or the basement. Last one is a no-go as we live in Norcal where people don't have basements. Garage is not appealing to me for many reasons. I also don't really want to "hide" the pin per se. Kind of want it to just be a natural part of the house instead of in some nook you visit occasionally.

So yeah fun to think about these kinds of things. :) If I was still in AZ we'd just get a huge place and have an arcade room basically, but here in the SF area prices are insane (sorry random person) and houses are much smaller.

budget would be my biggest question, but something like World Cup Soccer 94 would work out nice imo. mid tier price, good theme for having kids around, easy for beginners to get into by just shooting goals and while not an incredibly deep game, its still challenging and plenty of fun.

Budget budget budget!

Also, join Pinside and check out the MFS subforum.

E: The Simpsons Pinball Party (TSPP) is a lot of fun and SUPER colorful. WCS 94 gets SO much praise, but I haven't played it. I'm on the hunt for a Pirates of the Caribbean (POTC) which is VERY family friendly (easy for new players, enough depth to keep veterans going, and the theme is great). If you're looking at higher cost games, the new Star Trek by Stern is a blast to play and is very family friendly as well (no bad words, themes, ideas, or images...Plus it's incredibly easy for newer players as it directs you with very well laid out flashing arrows). There are a TON of great family themed games that you can grab in a fair price range.

E2: Wizard of Oz (WOZ) gets a lot of love as the theme is one of the most family oriented ever, but it's expensive. However, I HAVE played it and can say that it would definitely grow on me if I owned one or had access to it more. It's a deep game with a lot of great LED use and tons of levels and areas to explore.

Budget definitely not an issue if we decide to actually get one. Quite the opposite, would want to ensure the one I get is in absolute top shape and maybe even has some bling to just make it worth the space it's taking up.

Funny you should mention WCS as it's one I've had my eye on though I actually need to play it first. I really like the theme.

Hm. Themes for young kids but games that are still good. Ideas:

Jurassic Park
The Flintstones
Bugs Bunny's Birthday Bash
WCS94 is definitely a good one
Theatre of Magic
Fish Tales?
Addams Family

The virtual tables are also having a very real effect on the secondary marketplace for machines. "Farsight is recreating some of our older tables, and some of the older Williams and Gottleib tables, and we’ve seen some of the used values of those machines rise. We did a Ripley’s Believe it or Not with them, and then shortly after the release of the table, it was hard to get a used Ripley’s machine. That was a cool side effect, as well."

This does not bode well for the already outrageous prices for TAF.

Cool, thanks -- those all look like pretty good choices. Didn't realize Flintstones was so good, never actually played it but it looks really popular. ToM is just awesome looking so that's some real appeal too.

Yeah, it's quite good, but it can take a little effort to get over the theme (as it's based on the god-awful movie). Best thing about that is it'd be more difficult for adults to come to terms with than kids, so as long as your daughters like it, I'm sure you eventually will as well!

It also has an insane orbit shot that goes *below* the flippers and above the apron. It's insane when you first see it! And plus a mod that makes it a little more appealing to all, an alternate translite:

bad movie themes make the best pins!!

Congo
The Shadow
Judge Dredd (though leans more comic book)
Jonny Mnemonic
Demolition Man
Starship Troopers

all great games!

But the artwork is also shit on Flintstones. And you have the kid factor as well. Plus, Rosie O'Donnell.

It feels to me like you would own those pins only if you owned several pins, right? Like it would be weird if your only pin was from a mostly forgotten 90s movie. But if you have five, hey why not?

High Speed is going to be used in Division A?!? HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! That will be some god-tier gameplay right there. I'm guessing it will come close to the brutality of PAPA 14's F-14 Tomcat.

PS. That list of games overall is fucking amazing. Such a great variety of games. But yeah, I'm stoked as hell that High Speed is in there. Can't wait to see how the best of the best handle it. Hopefully it's the same machine as the one in this tutorial. (Incentive for me to set mine back up again. Miss playing it after so much Ripley's)

You'd be surprised. I mean, you could just as easily lump Addams Family in with that list of forgotten 90s movies, but it's the biggest selling machine of all time. So logic doesn't really apply here ;)

I have Attack From Mars, and my kids love it. The open playfield is great for kids because every shot does something. There aren't a bunch of complicated targets and upper playfield flippers that are too challenging for them.

It's great for a family playroom.

Seriously though, do this for US as well.

You guys already get good prices! I'm sure this sale kind of brings the price around the same in Europe/AU as the US.

I'm with you bro. Once Earthshaker is on TPA, it will have every table I loved back in day on it. Barring tables from companies not licensed to TPA.

I wanna lock on - for all the hits!
It only became a favourite of mine when I played it in Texas this year... prior to that, I'd never seen one in person. IMO there's more that's different about it to other tables in TPA than Diner (especially against Taxi).

Um... holy fucking shit! According to the files in the latest update on Steam, we know what some of the upcoming tables are. TAF sooner than we think?
Spoilers ahead:

How does that sync with the thing Shaneus posted? Put it in spoilers if need be.

obscure as shit and probably reaching too much but
in buffy season 4 episode 'who are you', spike says to faith: "Yeah, and as soon as I get this chip out of my head I'll be a vampire again but until then I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree"

The song is Misty. What's the name of a multiball mode in
Bram Stoker's Dracula
?
Mist
multiball!

this is much more likely the answer :)

Speaking of sales, the SCEE PA sale mentioned earlier goes on until the 20th.

Starting on the 19th and running for two weeks, a similar sale will occur in SCEA territories. The Season 1, Season 1 Pro and Season 1 Pro upgrades will all be half off for the PS3, Vita and PS4 versions, and the four core pack tables will be free to download.

The mobile versions will have a similar deal to the SCEA deal going on at the same time as well.

It will be out, but I think because they have the same platform as the One, they're getting the lighting right on that system first. Then (I guess) it will be like flicking a switch for the PC one.

I think/hope.

"Welcome to my home"

YEAH!!!!, Bram Stoker Dracula looks set to be the last table in season 3 then, what a way to end the season. BSD is probably my most requested table and now it's coming, hopefully it's release will tie into also the release of the Xbox One version of TPA, which will introduce the DX11 lighting effects to both the XB1 and PC versions, this darkening of the lighting will fit the theme of BSD nicely.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MYOHq06WjE&feature

Also did I hear the MS has a timed exclusive on the complete season 3 package for consoles??

You know, for all the shit they did wrong, Season 3 was phenomenal for me. I got 3 of my most wanted tables (Black Knight 2000, Junkyard, Diner), plus some new favorites (Whodunnit, High Speed), some solid stuff (High Roller Casino, Black Rose, Fish Tales), and now Dracula, a table i recently fell in love with thanks to a local collector? Hell of a season.

Oh....and it had Lights Camera Action. Guess it can't be perfect then. Still, awesome stuff.

Was looking forward to going on a road trip with Nate (of Coast 2 Coast) next year, but my girlfriend's brother's wedding is the exact same fucking weekend as Texas. So that's out. Can't even bring the trip forward a few weeks and maybe go to PAPA instead, because the Melbourne F1 GP is THAT weekend.

Guess I'm not meant to go to the US in March 2015. When would be another good time to go, where I could see a number of festivals, tournaments etc.? I hear Portland is *amazing* for pinball in general, but that's about all I know about pinball in the US :/

It's an easy table. That's a big reason why it's so popular (great overall package *and* easy to play) but also why seasoned owners (or those with limited space) *don't*. Hell, there's one local to my work and whilst I don't post massive scores on it, it never feels like I'm being pushed by the machine.

RBION on the other hand... those fucking outlanes!

How's your STP going, BTW?
