The Player 1 Podcast Topic

People have described Destiny as Halo meets Borderlands. I didn't invent that. But I have no affinity for either of those games. In fact, I have apathy for one and disdain for the other.
 
Density is way better than Borderlands, but yeah if you hate Halo games and the way they play then I doubt you'd like it. The controls and jump really feel like Halo.
 
I'm glad this week you actually talked about Tomodachi Life and what it is. Last week was pretty rough for it.

I agree that LBP can be a better showcase for creativity, but while LBP provides broader creative opportunities, I disagree with Mike in that I think it will be considerably easier to make a serviceable Mario level than it is to make a LBP level that feels entertaining.

Part of that is the gamepad control... another part of that is that I don't think LBP's creation tools -- while powerful -- are all that great. (EDIT: Certainly people who put in a lot of time in can produce really cool stuff, but they seem to be the exception based on the user-generated stuff I've played).

the single-player levels you never really know what you're going to see next, and that's rare in modern games. I've been delighted by little design jewels in a few different levels, and the score challenges have also been fun. Playing through these levels is a great way to start thinking about how to make your own levels, and to get a feel for what the level-editing tools can do. Still, I found myself getting somewhat restless, and the controls can be problematic in some areas. In LittleBigPlanet, jumping feels very odd and slightly messy, and the game has troubles deciding if you're going to bump into an object or go around it in some places. Jumping puzzles, for these two reasons, can be infuriating at times.

The guy who was saying Zelda Wii U isn't a game or that its going to look very different when it comes out is just flat out wrong.. Its absolutely going to look like that, its quite likely a ton of the over world is already there. The Zelda tech demo was shown a couple of years ago, it wasn't playable, but had an interactive camera.

Also LBP physics are not good, and saying that it causes unexpected things to happen seems silly, thats just broken mechanics.

EDIT: I don't want that to come across too strongly, of course this is just my own thoughts.

Seriously though, I'll explain my position a little better.

This was a proper Zelda game reveal/announcement, its at least akin to the Twilight Princess reveal, (which also lacked a name in 04) the graphics style is definitely locked in place to a large degree. Nintendo has even stated that this teaser was running in-game, it's not going to change dramatically.

From the comments on the podcast, it seemed as though this was being taken as some sort of tech demo/possible direction. We had that already, years ago.

There were also comments Nintendo made last year where they had considered showing glimpses of it, but it was obviously still too early, so they decided not to.
 
I got one foot in either camps. On one hand I'm confident that what they showed is the final art style and assets but on the other hand a reveal like that with no actual gameplay isn't exactly giving me any confidence for a 2015 release. I'm gonna say it's a mid to late 2016.
 
Since you guys keep bringing up Leigh Alexander, I just wanted to chime in and say that I actually enjoy reading (most of) what she writes, and part of that is why I finally decided a few months ago to slog through Chrono Cross, a game that she loves. What does this have to do with P1P? Well, I decided to listen to an old Fanboys podcast... the one where Mike loves a mediocre, but ambitious, game called Heavy Rain.

Leigh Alexander is to Chrono Cross as Mike and Greg are to Heavy Rain.

I can't wait until I finish Chrono Cross. What a chore. I had to peek and see who much is left because I can't take it anymore.

I'm not taking back that analogy either!
 
Honestly I keep bringing up Leigh not because of anything she's done or written, but because there's some dude on twitter who has taken it upon himself to "tattle" on us to her every time we say something he thinks she might find offensive.

I don't think she's ever responded.
 
The whole thing's pretty humorous. He's really fighting to increase our listenership by 1, so I guess that's admirable? Before we even start a show the guy's pointing out our existence to her.

Personally I just think guy is joking and you guys don't realize it so you keep feeding his ego by falling into it every week.

Could be that I accidentally reverted back to my country when I re-checked the data. I was going back and forth between Finland and USA iTunes stores. My apologies but 35 isn't bad either.

He could at least do you the courtesy of complaining to someone who you actually talk about on a semi-regular basis, like Arthur Gies, Bill Mudron, Finn Theobald, or the Overfiend.
