Phil is the nation's number one miiverse archaeologist

This moment, in its odd quietude and musical anachronism, is one of numerous tableaus in Bioshock Infinite that catapult this exhilarating meditation on identity, guilt, belief, narrative, revolution, race, national identity and eventually games themselves into a brilliant sensory symphony without precedent in the medium. It is one of the most remarkable creative feats I have experienced.

But is is Dickens?
=(

That made me sad.

Wait, did Sessler actually write that?

And, if so, why do games writers have such a massive problem with subject/verb agreement? Shit drives me mad--Gies and Kollar do it, too. English, motherfucker--do you speak it?

Because they want to sound smart without actually....being smart.

I hate you, CJ.

Not because you put Sexy Mike in the Zinger.
Not because you subjected me to "You're the One that I Want"
Not because you put the whole song in.

But because, after 30 seconds or so, I started to enjoy it.

Also: If they ported Tomb Raider to WiiU would you then let Greg talk about it?

Oh, I'm really late to this but I'm surprised that Phil thought New Super Luigi U felt like nothing more than a collection of time trials. I really appreciated how difficult it was compared to NSMB U and nothing really felt "time trial-y" about it aside from the shortened timer.

By Phil's logic, everything that has a timer is a time trial.

I'm dumb; where's the disagreement? "Catapult?" Isn't that correct because " tableaus" is plural? That sentence is still the worst, though, and its structure is just completely bizarre. These people need to be stopped.

Upon further review, I guess he could be saying that the "numerous tableaus" catapult the meditation...

I initially read it as "this moment" being the one of "numerous tableaus" that catapults the meditation...

Otherwise, why single it out? The fact that it's unclear, I suppose, just further suggests that clarity of communication is less important to these cats than being able to pleasure themselves all over the faces of their contemporaries.

Yeah after editing this show I suddenly wanted to watch Grease. I kind of couldn't believe I found a chiptune version of that song. And yes, if they ported Tomb Raider to Wii U Greg could talk about it all he wants. Just like he can talk about the existing versions all he wants.

Is Phil going to travel to Japan at any point for his work with Mighty No. 9? Can we expect a guest appearance on the 8-4 play podcast?

I was only joking, Chris :) I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way.

OMG the Grease part in the middle of the ep HILARIOUS :D wow that was soooo goood laughed really really hard out loud on the street people started at me and I did not care 1 bit.

Fantastic ep like always everyone keep it up! :)

What exactly is Phil doing with regards to Mighty No 9? I couldn't find any mention of him or what he's doing on their Kickstarter page. Is this just a joke because he didn't finish Megaman 9?

The Grease bit made me lose it for a good number of minutes during the commute to work this morning. Loved it.

The inclusion of Mike is the best thing that has happened to this show in a while. He's often so on point, knows to articulate his arguments well, has good taste in games and his hatred against Gies is funny as hell. Also, he's old and has a good 'radio voice.' He works as a perfect counterpoint to Phil, who I find more and more annoying. His sense of humor does't really gel with me, I guess.

I really like Mike on the show as well. I find his interactions with Sewart are some of the most insightful stuff and I really enjoy it. And he's kind and willowy.

Why aren't there any player one gifs. What with the streaming and what not

It's a travesty that no one is capturing the passion and enthusiasm.

That answers the age-old question:

"What does it look like when Mike plays Madden while on the podcast?"

Well this was the dumbest thing I read today. Challenging statement to read as well given how much creative interpretation is required to avoid the minefield of grammatical inconsistencies and powerful words wielded poorly.

I have avoided game editorial sites for many years now, but I now better understand all of Mike's irritated jokes at their expense on the podcast.

A trip to Japan would be lovely, but it's not gonna happen. We're gonna try to make a podcast appearance happen, but there's a bit of a time zone difference to work around.

I'm doing some behind-the-scenes stuff for 8-4. Answering e-mail, handling Twitter/Facebook...that sorta thing. Community management kinda stuff.

I heard your face is annoying.

Contrary to what Phil said, Gunpoint is very much playable on a gamepad as i beat the game in its entirely on one.
Is that right? Admittedly I didn't really tinker around with the settings or anything as I was keen to try the game out. Of course, now that I'm used to the keyboard, I'll probably just stick with it. Such a good game.

I totally wanted to hear about Pokemon starter characters rather than Greg's impressions about Tomb Raider. Totally.

Also, I was humming Grease the whole day after I finished listening to the show.

Well, not in-game, but using a keypadder program like joy2key.

Generation 16 episode 10 has two of my favorites Mega Drive games: Phelios and E-Swat. I love the style of Phelios. Is a spaceship shooter game but I remember never seeing in this way, because the art and theme. And E-Swat is so much late 80s/early 90s age, you hear the music and you think MegaDrive.

Talking about MegaDrive, I wonder if was a widespred trick to use the swap cartridge method to get infinite lives in Strider. You put Altered Beast, remove, put Strider and press reset. Some memory overlay will make you gete infinite lives in Strider.

After that I started to use this trick in every megadrive game I rented, each one with different results (yes, my console still alive).

Hope you all reserved a custom license plate in the iFruit app. It's first come, first serve. Once a word is taken it's gone for good from what they mentioned in the description.

I just received a DM on Twitter from @sewart (Greg Sewart) that had what I would call a phishy/scammy link and nothing more. I advice people following him to keep an eye out because he might have a malware/hacker doing tricks on his account.

EDIT: He's aware of this and apologized. He got hacked :-(

Episode 360: 360 360

This week! We take up an entire episode to remember the Xbox 360 eight years on - after many red rings of death and dirty disc errors. Sure the system may not be completely gone yet but when was the last time anything exciting came out for the 360? That's right, it's been awhile. So bust out your Vision cameras, HD-DVD drives and chat pads, and get ready to play'n'charge through a nearly 2-hour party chat on Microsoft's last-gen entry.

That's a link I'd definitely click

You guys are wrong. Burnout Paradise is the best Burnout game.

I got 100% on the game before trophies and almost got to 100% when trophies were added.

Remember that E3 video of Adam coked out if his gourd? That was not long after writing that Bioshock Infinite review.

Dave Halverson's is still strong in video games journalism.

And, if so, why do games writers have such a massive problem with subject/verb agreement? Shit drives me mad--Gies and Kollar do it, too. English, motherfucker--do you speak it?

It wasn't just the press that was reset with the founding of Polygon, grammar was as well.

Still mystified by the comments of "every Xbox 360 update has made it tougher for me to play my games" - if it's not disc-based (which means pressing just one button) then it's just a couple away, still. Do you guys have trouble navigating the UI?

I hope I didn't say that, because it's not what I meant, exactly. But there's no denying I found it progressively harder to discover games. And the more they revised it, the less it felt like *my* dashboard.

I can totally agree with it on discovering games. Rock Band 3's DLC made "new add-ons" worthless for years too. Fuck Rock Band 3 for that. But yeah getting to the games themselves is still pretty simple, digging through a REALLY big amount of marketplace content...isn't. So I hear that.
