The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Really loved Steamworld Dig, but a bit disappointed at the length. Beat it at 4:24.

I guess that's fine considering what the game costs, but it feels like the progression should have been slower. Upgrades should have been more expensive to encourage the player to collect as many ores as possible.

I was a bit disappointed there was no new game + or free/endless mode after finishing the game.

It seems like it would make a good speed running game. Unfortunately I still have a regular 3DS and my hands are killing me after 30 minutes of play.

Would be nice if this came to Wii U (or Steam).

another person on for next show? :( its already so cluttered as it is. can you guys just do 2 separate shows? 1 with phil and cj the other with greg and mike? thatd be ideal.

I'd pay good money for a Sewart/Mike bonus show where they can dig in real deep on particular titles. I love you guys' interplay and how you break things down.

We're actually thinking of kicking Sewart off the show. We were thinking that you might be the perfect person to break the news to him.

So hey since PS4 is out and the friends list limit has been raised, anyone that wants to can feel free to add me to their list! Be warned that I'm not terribly chatty in online games and I'm terrible at shooters. But - I'm SuperPac on PSN.

Also we're reviving voicemails for the PS4 episode. If you want to tell us about your launch experience so we can use it on this week's episode, call on into (234) 752-9123.

Maybe we'll keep voicemails around after this, too.

Well it'll be a little while until I snag my own PS4 (UK listener), but it's a good chance to fire off some friend invites. Big fan of the show by the way - I always tune in =)

I hope one of you grabs Knack. I think it suffered from the same affliction as Batman Vita. It's a ton of fun in bite sized chunks but I can imagine it would get real boring real fast if played straight through.

I grabbed Knack, kill zone, warframe, Resogun.

Looking forward to this coming week's episode. While every podcast will be talking about the PS4, I only need one's opinion, and that is yours. Especially about Knack. It's the only game I have preordered and I'm starting to get... nervous.

PS-Mik, I feel your pain about stores calling up about preorders. While the PS4 doesn't come out for another 2 weeks (Aus), I've already had a call asking if I still intend to pick it up on launch day. On top of that, even though it's fully paid for, they can only promise to hold it for 48 hours. What the fuck? I can understand if I had only put $10 down and was stopping your shop from making money on inventory but you have my money. All my money. Many month ago money. You've had it for more than 48 hours, too. There should be a mandatory 1:1 ratio for hours paid/hours reserved.

I was wondering if Stewy wasn't accepting friend requests. Sounds like on the podcast right now he's just maybe behind on accepting requests. I'm sure they're all getting hounded the last couple of days.

Also, I got through a lot of Knack while listening to today's episode, and I did it without dying, so the show was a great morale booster!

You want to send me another request and mention that you're the dude from neogaf or something? I have no idea who a lot of these friend requests are really from :)

I sent friend requests to all four hosts. I'm not planning on playing any multiplayer, but figured I might peak in if anyone ever streams/uploads videos.

When Phil was talking about Lego Marvel and CJ mentioned that you should be able to turn into Ang Lee, I was really hoping someone would make a "you wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee" joke. Just had to get that off my chest.

Phil when you had that no audio issue, were you using remote play just before? Both times I've had the no audio issue I was coming back to the PS4 after a remote play session.

Reviewers pick apart Knack and you guys pick apart Knack reviews.

I had to skip that part.

I think that's fair and it's (usually, but not always) my fault. I should just stay focused more on my opinions and impressions of games and not get wrapped up in the opinions of others, I suppose. It was just a weird week of reviews that just weren't lining up with what I heard from my friends--and didn't sync with my own experiences.

What I found egregious about the Knack reviews were the clear falsehoods (these checkpoints set me back 10 minutes!), wholesale dismissal of the passive social mechanic in the game, and being oblivious to recent all-ages titles that take a very similar approach to gameplay.

This whole launch just proves to me that you should buy the games you're interested in and unless there's universal opinion on a game one way or the other you don't need to think twice about it.

I'll do this on Crimson Dragon. Right? Because we all loved PD.

Reviews always need to be taken with a pinch of salt. There are plenty of games that I would give a poor score to which others would get plenty of enjoyment from. It'll be interesting to see how people feel about Knack and Ryse this time next month.

Thanks for the new episode! : )

When I eventually get a one I will absolutely grab crimson dragon. Reviewers are generally worthless.

Except Tom chick.

I rarely agree with how Tom Chick feels but I love reading his reviews and seeing his perspective. Knowing your reviewer goes a long way.

I'm all in for Crimson Dragon also, because...I like that kind of shit.

Lococycle though? That's a bullet I'm not biting.

The next time Twisted Pixel creates a game I can enjoy will be the first.

I couldn't stand any of their previous games, but my friends just fell in LOVE with em. They just never were...my thing.

Noo. My headphones have broken.

I don't think I have enough swag to get away with blasting P1P out of my ipod speaker on the train.

I think I was able to duplicate Greg's experience with the selecting which downloads to start but Christ it's hard to say. I'm pretty sure I selected one of the games and hit X and yeah, it started to download immediately.

Also, 100% on the remote play. It works awesome in my bedroom whereas the WiiU does not. Playing Knack on the Vita, playing an online game of Madden on the Vita (holy shit!) so awesome.

It'll be interesting to see how all these games are viewed a half a year or so down the track.

At this stage it doesn't look like almost any of the launch games on either system are going to fare very well.

The guys did seem a little overly positive/defensive of Knack...but I haven't played it so I can't say anything.

It's not Mario 64. It's not Ratchet & Clank. I have no problem with Polygon's score on the game, actually. It's just a few of the points that've come up in the reviews that I think are off-base. But it's not the pile of steaming shit as many seem to believe from the reviews. Really depends on what your opinion is of "all ages" platformers like the LEGO games.
