^ So he's gone for good?

No, I'd say they take him back if he wanted to come back

He was at the top when he left, and had just gone full Heel after getting a bit stale as a face for too many years, and was in the big storylines, but he just wanted to go. WWE was real tight PG at the time though (halting matches at the sight of accidental blood), as Linda was running for a senate seat, so he had to hold back on some heelish stuff he may have wanted to do

The product is still PG now, but they seem happier to push the boundaries. Punk had a bloody nose last week, and they zoomed in on it, replayed it, and they had Punk skirting a suicide related topic a few weeks ago too (saying he'd jump of the Titantron)... and Rock kicked PG into the middle of next week on Monday. In fact, there are loads of "that's not PG" moments every week now, after stuff been very ridged PG this time last year.

That seems much more like a place heel Batista would work well.

I had no idea that there was a PG direction for wwe now.

Like, that is so at odds with the wrestling I used to watch I cant even believe it.

I think its partly due to losing advertising revenue .. PG is a lot easier to sell of course.

EDIT: Great point about Linda running for Senator. It would be difficult for her to campaign when her husband is making people kiss his ass and pimping the ho train.

Believe it or not, she's one of the best heels in the entire company right now.

Nobody else gets as much heel heat as she does.
From what I've seen of her, she doesn't seem to be a very good heel. There are heels that people love to hate and there are people that get booed just because people plain don't want to see them.

X Pac used to get booed out of the ring when he returned to the WWF. He would get more boos than the top heel in the company. But not because he was a great at being a heel. People just didn't want to watch him. He was fired not long after his solo stint in the WWF because he just wasn't very interesting, despite eliciting a lot of boos.

Does anyone have vids of when the Rock first turned heel in his early Nation of Domination days?

I still think Nitro Era Jericho was the best but WCW didnt know what they had with him and he was never the same when he joined WWE.

Goddamn watching him on WWE again is great. I'm not much of a wrestling fan, but The Rock was always fun to watch when my dad had it on tv years ago, and he's still got it.

^ Batista left? Why is that? Such a shame. I always thought he was better than Cena, his storyline with HHH and Orton as friends falling out was great. Sigh.

It got even better five years later, when it turned out Randy Orton hadn't forgotten and seriously injured Batista twice (storyline terms...but since he actually left for weeks, it came off well), attacked HHH's wife twice, and beat the hell out of Ric Flair.

The eventual match between Orton and HHH at WM wasn't great (and the wrong guy won), but that storyline was AWESOME as far as I was concerned. And the promos Orton cut as a calculating, ruthless, vindictive, but somewhat justified sociopath were what started the cheers for his heel character.

They are starting to release Season DVD's, and they have other wrestler collections but they all suck ass.

DVD's that are entirely old matches and stuff are censored and dubbed over piles of crap. Cussing? Gone. Entrance music? Dubbed over with generic garbage so they don't have to pay a rights fee. etc.

Documentaries on the other hand are amazing. The behind the scenes stuff and one on one interviews are all magical.
So the closest thing I'll be able to find is that OOP Best of RAW vol 1+2 set?

X-pac heat is a step above no reaction, so she is better then half of the wwe roster.

Nah. It's not X-Pac heat she's getting. It's Cyrus in ECW heat. She even stole his "Excuse me...excuse me!" line, and it works great.

ugh, that's disgusting.

I remember they would have disclaimers saying "not intended for those under the age of 13"back in the day. Now, they just say the show is "aggressive in nature". I actually laughed out loud when I first saw that. So stupid.

I guess we won't be seeing the Vince McMahon kiss my ass club making a return any time soon, or Stone Cold's beer truck.

Man I fucking love the rock. I didn't really watch wrestling at all, but whenever I caught bits of his antics, endless amusement.

Can anyone help find that promo with limp bizkits "my way" song? I think it was an official wrestlemania promo but I'm not sure.

Man, Rock on RAW last night was amazing again.

He's so much better at cutting a promo than Cena it'a almost embarrassing.
What, you don't like the gay jokes and constant penis references Cena makes?

Yeah, same here. My interest in wrestling begins and ends with the Rock. I recently bought the 'Know Your Role' DVD (not recommended) when he came back to relive some great moments.

And damn, I'm a heterosexual dude and all, but the Rock was a fucking Adonis in his prime.

It wasn't always this way for me, but it definitely is now. I can't remember who said it, but the Attitude era was a perfect storm of people with in-ring talent and mic skills combined with some great storylines. I know I shouldn't hold it against the roster of today, but it's really hard not to.

I haven't watched wrestling, or cared in years, but I would give it a shot again if the Rock came back. Some of my best childhood memories are watching the Rock, and Stone Cold. Those were epic days of wrestling.

It was great, you fool!

Plus it will make their encounter face-to-face even better.

He's laying it a bit thick. The Rock is cool because he never really gives a shit. He shouldn't have to use mic time to convince the audience that he loves them.

WWE went from attitude trying to push the envelope to PG again? I am asking cause I don't know...stopped following around 2002-2003ish.

aaahhh yes. when I was 12, i dressed up as the rock for halloween. aviator glasses, painted on sideburns and people's eyebrow, hawaiian/lounge shirt, white bermuda shorts, brown loafers and a championship belt.

man, i can't find a good picture of it, but back in like 1998-1999 i know he used to wear weird, oversized dress shirts and shorts with dress shoes to the ring for promos.

The WWE has had some stupid sign policies for the past few years. In the old days, they would let anything in, then they decided to start taking away signs that went against their creative direction(Re: pro heel signs and anti babyface signs were always taken).

Also, it's just not as hot as it used to be so not as many people want to make signs. Sign making in general was just more popular back then too.

I will agree with this, a ways back when Punk and Taker were feuding (a year and some change) my group's pro-Punk signs were taken as we were "ruining what they were trying to do" - bah!

They went PG in 2008, mainly to get better advertisers and to set up a deal with Mattel to make action figures. They went STRONG PG when Linda McMahon was running for senate in 2010 - they halted a few matches when people accidently bled. Ever since she lost, they have been noticeable;y pushing the boundaries of PG. Rock and Cena are saying stuff no one would not have said this time last year, and they are show close ups / replays of blood again, and sometimes even make fun of themselves working under PG restriction in promos - Edge and Cena said a few things

It is still not TV-14 though.

I literally haven't watched wrestling since i was 10 or 11 years old but its totally awesome that the rock is gonna wrestle again. Also a pretty obvious sign that his acting career was over and he needs money.

Indeed, the order is:
1. Conway Pop
2. X-Pac Heat
3. Not Over
4. Over
5. Hall of Fame Over
6. The Rock

7. Austin/Hogan

They're still the biggest draws in WWE/F history
