Who's going to be Egg Shen? Forest Whitaker could pull it off, he's a good actor, has the eye squint thing too. Not being an asshole about it, I can just see him as that guy.

He did it before

Sidekick? Wasn't he the baddie in Doom?

Hmm, it will be interesting to see them make The Rock the person who isn't the actual action hero - i mean he is doing Kurt Russell's role and if so, he isn't the action hero and is actually the bumbling idiot person who thinks he's the action hero.

I just don't see him doing things like this, he just looks to capable (in that, he is the size of a hulk and can kill mere mortals with the flick of a wrist :D).

"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

You should be sad. They are going to ruin your favorite film.
not exactly: they're going to make a new (probably bad) movie with the story of an old one. Not burn the existing copies of the original. Remakes never "ruin" originals.
One of the basic rules of movie watching: Never see a John Carpenter remake, they've always sucked and probably always will.
Eh, don't know if there are enough cases to call this a rule. The existing examples are: The Fog, Assault on Precinct 13, and Rob Zombie's two Halloween movies. While I don't think I've ever seen anyone defend the former two, Zombie's Halloweens are pretty widely accepted as valiant efforts nowadays, paying dues to Carpenter while carving out an independent tone and style.

Jack Burton is like the witty sidekick, not an action hero. That's what made the original so great.

The Rock's likability puts him in a great position to play the role. Jack's a scoundrel but you never stop rooting for him. The tough sell will be The Rock as an underdog. Framing him as down on his luck and at a low point in his life was a huge weakness in San Andreas.

Kurt Russell as Jack Burton is just so perfect. I can't really see anyone else doing the role as well as he did. In this movie the Rock is more like the eight-foot-tall maniac than Jack Burton.

The Rock won't be the problem with this movie. In fact, this is pretty solid casting- he's the one of the faces of the modern 80s action hero, has been willing to make a fool of himself since forever, and has good comedic timing.

No faith this will be any good though.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?

it pains me to say this but:

Egg Shen: Jack Black
Jack Burton: Danny McBride

Can;'t be any worse than the original. That shit isn't in the "So Bad it's Good" company - it's just bad. Sorry, cultists.

yeah he's fine for this, even though his beast-mode size is kinda a counterpoint to this movie but he'll still pull it off.

it's the film itself that will be bad.

Also, shit says "via the wrap" at the bottom of the article? Link The Wrap instead of shit-ass comicbook dot com. You'll probably find details you missed because lord knows comicbook pays less attention to the shit they write than the people sharing their links on forums such as this.

And if the joke is that Jack Burton is an alpha male who doesn't realize he's the useless sidekick in this movie, why would getting the Rock, who is even more alpha and more physically imposing, somehow ruin the joke as opposed to enhancing it?

You guys are acting like the Rock doesn't have comic timing and a willingness to make himself look fuckin' dumb.
