Maybe not the ones you were hoping for, but numbers nonetheless

Yep. This studio is getting shut down. It took ioi one day to reveal the James Bond numbers.
I wouldn't say that. The real question is whether the game made its money back or not. If it was at least financially viable, i'm sure Sony will keep the studio around, because they probably want a decent studio that isn't trapped in an endless cycle of cinematic third-person action-adventure games.

Idk about shut down but you can bet their budget will be half for their next title, and they will be having staff cuts.

Probably ask them to help another studio develop a game rather than lead their own.

Saros is my personal biggest disappointment this gen. I don't want to see them shut down but holy fuck find the magic again boys.

Those numbers look bleak. Not sure if Housemarque will survive this
Yeah I mean if I was super generous and said on average each player beat the game with 20 deaths that's still only 650,000 copies and it's for sure more than 20 on average.

This thing bombed HARD.

Seriously some analyst downloaded the report, filtered it in descending order and shared the highest looking numbers to publish.

How about % of players died at the first boss. Or most deaths at what boss. Average deaths by each player when finished the campaign.
How about % of people dying from non enemy obstacles.

Say each player died 100 times in their play through that means there's only 130,000 players…

Trophy percentage of the last boss is a little over 20%. I have 17 deaths on my completed save file so I'd guess average deaths per player is below 50.

I received an alert a couple of days ago from Sony to buy Saros.

No wonder why.

Edit: my bad, it was 4 days ago.

'there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics'...
- mark twain

when they give you statistics instead of sales figures, it likely indicates poor sales figures...

As I said before the game even released, it's effectively an expansion pack to a 5 year old game that owed 80-90% of its somewhat middling semi-success to being a 1st party exclusive PS5 "Launch" game, of which you had like 2 to choose from. Good news is they got PC to pick up some sales slack....oh wait.

Amazing how wrong you are about all of this. It's a phenomenal game and one of the GotY.

Use the time played and the Numbers of Day your going to get your answer
Yeah that doesn't give you any kind of answer on copies sold whatsoever. You'll only get the total number of hours played per day, and that doesn't tell you much either. For example if there's 20 hours played, you don't know if it's 2 people playing for 10 hours each or 10 people playing for 2 hours each. And if it's the former, you don't know if it was 2 separate sales or 2 players in the same household that are playing the same copy.

If they use these kinds of metrics instead of copies sold it's because the game underperformed otherwise they'd come out and proudly announce the sales.

There's a homing bow gun you can find in the later half of the game which is even better than the smart rifle, but for general crowd control.

I had to switch back to the smart rifle for the final boss, it's better for one on one fights.

I'm talking about unit sales. I Platinum'ed Returnal, I know the games are fun. I'm not racing to drop $70 USD on a reskinned expansion pack though--especially a rogue like--when there's so much other stuff to play. What I was intimating is there's now too much competition on an old and busted console that has long lost its luster, and it's way too expensive for what it is.

Yeah if they start with stats and don't disclose sales it means they aren't happy.

Returnal is one of the best games of this gen for me, but I didn't buy Saros as well. Its 80 bucks, I typically never pay 80 bucks for any game.

Housemarque may want to consider doing something different for their next game instead of what would effectively be another Returnal sequel. I get the feeling that people in general just didn't care in the first place to play another game like this. Personally, I was hoping for something very different from their latest title.

Now, I have no idea what the budget for this game was or what the bar for success is. It got really good reviews and Returnal apparently made a profit after selling 1 million copies in just under a year. But, it was a mild one. I don't think there's any reason to doom and gloom over the studio's future. But I also don't think this is the path that'll protect them from the axe if they stay on it.

6.630.000 (total hours)/ 30 (avg hours/playthrough) = 221.000 playthroughs.
Lets say 300K-400K copies to be generous?

Trust me if this game crosses the 500k mark we would hear about it, same thing with Yotai not crossing 5m. Sony shuts up about their figures when they dry up.

6 million hours played.
A few people playing for a long time or alot of people playing for a short time?
