Two-time Emmy winner Alf Clausen has been fired from “The Simpsons” after 27 years of providing music for Bart, Lisa, and company.

Clausen told Variety that he received a call from “Simpsons” producer Richard Sakai that the company was seeking “a different kind of music” and that he would no longer be scoring the longtime Fox hit.

A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment.

Clausen, whose Emmy record includes two wins (1997 and ’98) and another 21 nominations for “The Simpsons” dating back to 1992, has scored more than 560 episodes of the series, starting early in the 1990-91 season. He is believed to be the most-nominated musician in Emmy history, with a total of 30 nominations overall.

He has also won five Annie Awards, all for his “Simpsons” music. His long tenure with the series has made him one of the most respected creators of animation music in TV history.
Speculation about Clausen’s dismissal involves cost-cutting measures, which have been ongoing at “The Simpsons” in recent years, despite its massive profits for Fox and executive producer James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films.

He's been the sole composer for nearly the show's entire run. Insane that they've fired him. He's a legend, responsible for some of the most iconic music on TV.

Well at least now he can get a free Whopper.

Really odd move though. Maybe they are trying to cut costs or something?

This must be some internal conflict. Doesn't make sense otherwise.

Clausen uses a 35-piece orchestra every week — something that “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening insisted upon from the start of the show. Including costs of musicians, recording studios, and orchestration, expenses routinely run into the millions of dollars per year. Danny Elfman’s “Simpsons” theme is expected to be retained.

They were trying to grab your prize. They work for the mercenary. The masked man.
They'll probably just use his music from the previous 27 years and save the money on making new stuff.

Wouldn't be surprised if this causes turmoil among the cast. I know they probably had very little interaction but when someone's around for that long....

Well it was one hell of a run to be on one show for 27 years, I can't say it really affects most Simpsons fans since they jumped off years ago

What a foolish decision---almost zero chance of the new music having any of the necessary soul nor even making a real effort on the synth frontiers.

Fucking bullshit, the score has been the one consistent element in an otherwise inconsistent show. I remember moments from a season or two ago like the modern art statue melting Springfield really feeling elevated thanks to the well placed music cues. What a shame.

There's an animation error in this GIF and now I cannot stop staring at it.

The nurse's head gets chopped while overlayed on the pink area ...Yup, can't unsee it now.

But more on topic, since Samuel passed away, the show (budget, staff, rating, etc...) really took a dive and the studio (fox) has really been trying to cut back costs. This comes at no surprise, as more people will be hired under cheaper salaries for doing basically/hopefully a better job *keeps fingers crossed* while senior staffs (higher paid people) get cut out

The Simpsons has become a parody of itself. Remember when the show would critique the very unjustness of modern day society?

if the show had another 5 or so seasons under its belt i could understand "a different direction" but i was under the assumption it's wrapping up around season 30 with the VAs not getting younger, demanding higher pay

but then again i thought season 8 was probably the last one at the time so
