The Simpsons composer Alf Clausen fired after 27 years

Creative differences sounds like cover for personal conflict. Hope it's nothing too horrible, but his departure does not help the image of the franchise as a zombie lurching forward in creative staagnation.

One of the things that made the classic Simpsons great was that everything was on point, the animation, the voice acting, the writing and Alf Clausen's music. Think of the all the parodic music numbers in the classic series he was responsible for.

I always thought one of the reasons the movie sucked because they didn't hire him for the job (among other things of course).

yeah why is this show keeping hundreds employed

why

Spoiler: it's still watched by millions and while not heyday good, still delivers laughs. Not that you'd know since you don't watch it do you.

why would you still watch it, the show is devoid of all its good writers and just isn't the same anymore. point me to some modern episodes that are legitimately worth watching

Some men hunt for sport
Others hunt for food
But the only thing I'm hunting for
Is an outfit that looks gooooood

I am upset they stopped releasing the Blu-Rays for the seasons. I didnt catch it regularly and that allowed me to catch up. And before anyone says anything: I cant get the Simpsons World (or whatever its called) on my TV because the only smart device I have hooked up to it is a PS4 and I am pissed at Fox for going "fuck Sony, only Microsoft gets that app" still.

Cost-cutting or not, he's responsible for some incredible composition. Not cool to do that for someone that, I'd honestly say, pulls as much weight as the cast. Then again, they pull crap with the cast, too, during negotiations, so not entirely surprising.

I've never been a big fan of musical numbers in shows and movies. But those in the Simpsons? I've always loved them.

It's a shame to see this firing, but hopefully it means he has more time to create music for other projects.

Why does the article alternately label the show:
"Simpsons"
"The Simpsons"
?

Like, you would think that they could at least be consistent across one article.

I have good news for you - they're continuing with the physical releases! (The article only mentions DVDs but I imagine it will include blu-rays too?)

Hoping to pick up seasons 18 and 19 myself since I've awkwardly got 1-17 and the season 20 anniversary DVD.

They might be based off of the butchered HD remasters...but we'll find out at a later date.

It's sad how The Simpsons went from this amazing character driven satire on 80s and 90s sitcoms to basically becoming just another sitcom.

It's not Big Bang Theory bad, but it's rather depressing. When the movie happened I thought we'd get some magic back in the series but sadly it just never happened.

We did got some good eps post Movie in 07-08 only because those jokes were by vets but that was it.

This is cost cutting.

Rupert Murdoch's revenge on original liberal, satirical Simpsons is almost complete. Who knew the best tactic was to let the success age the show into becoming that which it hated?

This must be some internal conflict. Doesn't make sense otherwise.

Speculation about Clausen’s dismissal involves cost-cutting measures, which have been ongoing at “The Simpsons” in recent years, despite its massive profits for Fox and executive producer James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films.

Why settle for massive profits if you can have super massive obscene profits?

He's been the sole composer for the show's entire run.
His Wikipedia page says, "Clausen's first episode was "Treehouse of Horror", the third episode of season two, in 1990." and IMDB backs that up.

Obviously, that doesn't change that this was a shitty thing for Fox to do.

Suprised they kept him around so long.

I have no doubt in my mind when the main actors die/retire/quit that they won't let that stop them.
