"Why? Why was I programmed to feel pain?"

Lisa: I don't think anyone in this family could be capable of murder.

Grampa: You never know what people are capable of. I never thought I could shoot down a German plane. But last year, I proved myself wrong.

I am definitely not the first person to mention this, but I will always love that Homer thinks that the ballet would have 6 other people in the crowd, and he's the only thing cheering.

in the older seasons, there's a constant theme of most of the family imagining very disappointing things to most people and sort of acknowledging it, but to their own happiness.

another would be homer getting a touchdown in the superbowl and losing an incredible amount. or bart always having terrible outlooks on his future and thinking they're cool.

I'm going into the dining room to have a conversation.
Anyone who wants to join me is welcome.

Hello, Marge. How's the family?
I don't want to talk about it- Mind your own business!

I hear digging but I don't hear chopping!

So I was reading this article on whether Michael Jackson did the guest voice on S3E1, Lisa's Birthday: http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2014/04/16/tv-legends-revealed-did-michael-jackson-actually-sing-on-the-simpsons/

Guest-starring on The Simpsons has become almost a rite of passage for celebrities. However, in the early days, producers allowed their guest stars to use pseudonyms; the first to do so, Dustin Hoffman was credited as “Sam Atic” (get it?) in Season 2’s “Lisa’s Substitute.”

---

In the Season 3 premiere, “Stark Raving Dad,” Michael Jackson appeared as “John Jay Smith,” playing Leon Kompowsky, whom Homer Simpson meets after being accidentally committed to an asylum.

---

The producers agreed, although as it turned out, they were so annoyed by having to evade questions about whether it was actually Jackson doing the voice they made a rule that, from that point on, all guest voices on The Simpsons would have to be willing to be credited under their actual name.

What blew me away is, I was watching S4E6 today, the "Itchy and Scratch Movie", where Lisa was telling Bart about the movie after watching it:

I can't believe I'm still catching jokes for the first time this many years later.

You're only catching that now? I caught it a long time ago.... a few years ago I guess. :p

Great joke. Dustin Hoffman didn't use his name either? Wow. How different things are now where they can't wait to shove shitty celebrities in our faces.

At least the Justin Bieber joke last season was funny.

regarding lisa's substitute

Vitti mentioned on Twitter that the note Lisa receives at the end of the episode should've had an exclamation point at the end. He didn't catch it in the animatic and it still "haunts [him] to this day."

i think it works so much better without the exclamation point.

Have you guys been watching the Simpsons World FXX app? It's fantastic. I can't handle all of it's awesomeness. Every episode right at my fingertips with minimal commercials...

Groundskeeper Willie: Shary Bobbins and I were engaged to be wed back in the old country. Then she got her eyesight back. Suddenly the ugliest man in Glasgow wasn't good enough for her.
Shary Bobbins: It's good to see you, Willie.
Groundskeeper Willie: That's not what you said the first time you saw me!
