I honestly don't blame Simpsons, but rather the new set of audience in general. I doubt the common audience would appreciate the classic plots if they aired today.
Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong.

Have they done an episode on Marge becoming a robot yet?
Nope, Homer has monopolized all of the "robot" plotlines.Have they done an episode on Marge becoming a robot yet?

He also ended up with Bender in an earlier episode, Future-Drama where he shared him with Bart. And then he befriended a robot in Season 26's Simpsorama...

This, the best episodes were the ones with the less slapstick comedy. Homer actually used to be a human being im the first 10 seasons not just some baby man.
The Heartbroke Kid, Season 16.
So there is an episode where Marge becomes a robot? WTF?
Yes, so they fulfilled that prediction, even if just through a daydream. So there is an episode where Marge becomes a robot? WTF?
It's just homer's fantasy/daydream.
Funniest thing about that reference is that they got all the actual actors from Cheers to guest voice their own characters, including Woody Harrelson. But the one who doesn't talk would have been voiced by Kelsey Grammer, who already has a recurring role on the show (Sideshow Bob).
Also Bart vs Australia comes after this, but Marge does fly in Mr Lisa Goes to Washington.

some of my coworkers are close to being a decade younger than me and i introduced them to classic simpsons. they were really surprised that there were a lot of funny, timeless jokes and a lot of heart, because they were expecting something more like family guy.
that said, there was a lot of dated stuff in there. i love summer of 4'2", but it's 20 years old now.
Dated or not... that episode is still timeless and easily recommended to any Simpsons enthusiast young or old.that said, there was a lot of dated stuff in there. i love summer of 4'2", but it's 20 years old now.
How is it dated outside of the clothes though?
not a ton. there are some references and lingo that don't really work though:
-baywatch
-blossom
-'radical' (although 'radical' is back in 2015 as 'rad', which is pretty rad)
-dennis the menace (which was experiencing a resurgence in a pretty big way at the time)
it's an episode that stands as one of my favorites though. like it may be #2, just behind marge vs. the monorail.
OH BOY, A CARNIVAL!
They flew there? I thought they took the train or something.
Examples plsPerhaps the most dated episode of the series is "E. Pluribus Wiggum", which curiously is not that old (Season 19). Although the episode was pretty bad even when it was current.
Sitting calmly... not too dissimilar to how Marge usually copes with crippling trauma:They flew. Bart goes into the cockpit and presses the button to make the oxygen masks come down, and everybody panics.
They've been to the beach plenty of times. Just not THAT beach. Was the beach ever revisited in future eps?

We've had beach scenes in several HD era episodes - The Changing of the Guardian, The Squirt and the Whale, Diggs and possibly one or two others that I've forgotten about.
Although I would argue that the closest approximation of a summer vacation episode we've had in recent years has been A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again (which took place on a cruise ship).

You guys are nerds for know all these quotes and references.
neeeeeerrrrrrdddddd!
Ah right, lingo and some old references. Still I think it can hold up today.

if it was, i don't remember it.
i don't think milhouse was as ever on fire as he was in summer of 4'2". everything he says, does, or has done to him is fucking gold.

UP YOURS KRABAPPEL!
'no, they must have seen you'
'he looks like you, poindexter!'
nice doggy!
OH BOY, A CARNIVAL! (this only gets funnier the more boisterous it is)
getting spit on by lisa and bart
'see you in the car'
"No. They must have seen you."I love his earnest "are we down with them?"
Wait a minute. That's no good.Marge: Stay away from my son!
Sideshow Bob: Oh, I'll stay away. I'll stay away...forever!
