I'm one of the few who really liked the way this happened. It gave the show a really unique look.

You are a unique person who must have interesting thoughts for appreciating such a thing. Your appreciation of art will one day guide the future of mankind valuing the imperfection in animation and the study of life.

Well, we've already seen what the Simpsons would be like without Harry's characters. Just watch The Simpsons Guy for a taste of the show's future without Shearer.

The dude would be pushing 72 before the next batch of episodes starts airing and clearly doesn't need the money at this point. I wish him well. At least we don't have to worry about him dying now although it's a shame they couldn't have at least arranged for a distinguished exit for his many characters in advance. This past year's Christmas episode was about as good of a sendoff for Flanders as we'll get.

Wait, Ned Flanders is gone?

I really hate the couple of articles I've seen that describe Shearer as "the voice of Flanders". It is such an absurd minimization of his work.

Mr. Burns, Flanders, Principal Skinner, Smithers, Lenny, Kent Brockman, Dr. Hibbert, Scratchy, Otto, Rainier Wolfcastle, Jasper, Reverend Lovejoy, Kang, Judge Snyder and that's just a partial list.

Wow. What a blow.

What confuses me is that Shearer states he's leaving to allow him the freedom to work on other stuff? But from the sounds of it, the deal allowed him to do just that with a guaranteed 14 million payout?

Anyway, they're going to have a real hell of a time replacing all of those characters' VAs. But I guess it doesn't matter since they can replace them and no one can tell the diddly-ifference.

are there any interviews with the cast where they openly or through hints talk about their opinion of old vs. new simpsons?

Shearer definitely hates new Simpsons. I remember him saying he thought the show had gone way downhill over 10 years ago (which is when the show was still actually pretty good, though he wasn't wrong then either). I think they shut him up pretty quick though.

As far as I know the other cast members have never strayed from the "it's as good as ever!! Maybe better?? :O" ..erm, opinion

I've been watching The Simpsons since The Tracey Ullman Show days and never in my life did I ever think that I wanted one of my favorite shows to die a horrible gruesome death.

A bloody end for Homer Simpson... is just one of several possible outcomes according to our computer simulation. Now, here's how it would look if the police killed him with a barrage of baseballs.

The unseen, sound effects only version with the baseballs is pretty fantastic as well.

This is one of my favorite exchanges, too:

Marge: Now, be good for Grampa while we're at the parent-teacher meeting. We'll bring back dinner.

Lisa: What are we gonna have?

Homer: Well that depends on what your teachers say. If both of you have been good, pizza. If you've been bad, um... let's see, poison.

Lisa: What if one of us has been good and one of us has been bad?

Bart: Poison pizza.

Homer: Oh no, I'm not making two stops.

If you don't start making more sense, we're going to have to put you in a home!

"You already put me in a home."
"Then we'll put you in that crooked home we saw on 60 Minutes!"
"...I'll be good."

I love the way Grandpa says that last line. LOL, the sound of complete defeat and submission.

I've never heard of that show before but that was absolutely terrible.
Not defending current simpsons, but that couch gag was bad. Is that representative of the humor of the show?
It's a completely different show by a completely different set of people. It's actually pretty funny on its own. It's co-created by Dan Harmon.

But yeah, it's a different kind of humor all together. You don't need to like The Simpsons to like it just as you don't need to like Rick and Morty in order to like The Simpsons.

Exactly what Uber said. It's best to judge Rick and Morty on its own.

Only so far in that it shows the basic premise where Rick is a genius mad scientist who's also pretty much a scumbag, while Morty is his hapless grandson that he puts into uncomfortable positions and makes him do the dirty work. The actual situations on the show are a lot more clever.

Although I'm not a fan of Rick's habit of burping mid-sentence. But I've gotten used to it.

You know what, you're right. First thing tomorrow morning, I'm gonna punch Lenny in the back of the head.
