For my fellow Canadians (and folks outside of North America) out there hoping to partake in the Simpsons World streaming app launching this October... I'm afraid I've got some bad news.

tRz9Lzn.gif

'Simpsons World' will be blocked from Canada; exclusive to FXX in U.S.

Because "Simpsons World" is essentially FXX's exclusive non-linear toy, it is off limits to Canadian linear rights holders. The only territory around the world with access to the non-linear "Simpsons World" environment is the United States. Even in the U.S., viewers will have to be FXX subscribers to tap into "Simpsons World."

In Canada, first-run episodes of "The Simpsons" have been a staple of Global's prime-time lineup for 25 years. This fall, for the first time in memory, Global will not simulcast "The Simpsons" on Sunday, moving the series from its traditional 8 p.m. ET timeslot to 10 p.m. Bell Media shows reruns of "The Simpsons" on The Comedy Network. Other Canadian carriers have limited rights to certain seasons.

Edwards says several season packages of the series have been sold around the world for more than two decades. This FXX cable deal, however, is an exclusive game changer, especially in how it pertains to non-linear rights, and geo-blocking "Simpsons World" from Canadian and other territories will be vigorously enforced.

Edwards feels untangling rights to make "Simpsons World" legally available around the world would likely be impossible. "The complexities of this deal are unique."

As Bart Simpson might someday write on a blackboard, "I will not illegally download 'Simpsons World' in Canada."

Of course Simpsons World comes out just as South Park Studios stops offering every South Park episode for free.

I swear, these companies are using the internet age completely wrong.

Then again, all Simpsons streaming will be really nice. The quality will probably be better than the DVDs I ripped with all the interlacing. (Even telling HandBrake to deinterlace still didn't remove it.) Crossing fingers for non-interlaced SD episodes.

Also, if I could, I'd take a few weeks off work and give up sleeping just to watch that entire marathon.

So apart from "being in the USA" is this Simpsons World app free? Or do you need some kind of paid subscription? I hadn't heard of it til it was posted above to be honest.

Looks like you need to have a cable subscription with FXX, which thankfully I do. I wonder if you could get away with just someone's info, like how people share HBO GO.

If you can take advantage of a situation in some way, it's your duty as an American to do it. Why should the race always be to the swift, or the Jumble to the quick-witted? Should they be allowed to win merely because of the gifts God gave them? Well I say, "Cheating is the gift man gives himself."

'Futurama' crossover to air in November

More specifically, November 9th.

The Futurama crossover installment has been slated to air Nov. 9. Cast members from the cancelled 31st-century comedy reprising their roles include Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, and Tress MacNeille (who also is part of the Simpsons voice cast). In “Simpsorama”, Bender travels back in time to kill Bart because Bart does something in the present that has terrible consequences for the future.
I'm still banking on Hyman Krustofsky kicking the bucket in the season premiere.

One detail that is alarming some purists about how classic episodes will be presented in their newly advertised "Every episode will be digitally remastered with an HD update in the 16:9 format" on FXX and the Simpsons World app is that a significant chunk of animation real estate is apparently getting cropped from the top and bottom of the show's original animation print.

How it will be shown in this new format as per the latest FXX promotional ad:

Lastly, IGN has leaked a transcript of some dialogue from The Simpsons Guy:

The Griffins walk up to the outskirts Springfield, with Lois asking, “Where are we?”

After they discover it’s a town called Springfield, Stewie asks, “What state?”, with Brian replying, “I can’t imagine we’re allowed to say.”

As they walk into town and see the citizens and begin to notice they look, well, different from the Griffins, Peter warns the family, “Don’t drink the water. Everyone here looks like they have hepatitis.”
Bart skates around the street, showing off his skills. A much more uncertain Stewie than wobbles into frame on a skateboard as well, seemingly wanting to impress Bart, as he tells him, “Oh my god, that was great!” We also see Stewie try to convince Bart he doesn’t wear diapers all the time.
Lastly, more of the big Peter vs. Homer fight scene was shown, beginning with them growling at each other...

Peter: “Simpson!”

Homer: “Griffin!”

The two begin comically punching each other, both of them exactly mimicking both the punch itself and their head swinging back for a while. They then begin pummeling each other and rolling around on the street, before Homer finally grabs Peter by his throat and begins to strangle him… at which point Peter freaks out and leaps back.

Peter: “What the hell? That really hurts!”

Homer: “I do it to my son all the time!”

Peter: “No wonder he’s fat and stupid!”

Homer: “That’s your son!”
ComicCon panels covering the Simpsons Guy, Simpsorama, this year's Treehouse of Horror (where the Ullman-era Simpsons haunt and terrorize their current HD-era counterparts), the Season 26 premiere, the live Simpsons classic scene recreation event at the Hollywood Bowl and more will take place this weekend.

This could be a good thing or a bad thing. I mean was the original content archived onto film? Or was it all archived to video tape? How does it look at 720? If it is 720. Or is it just going to be 480. Though either way it's being enlarged.

Jesus, the amount being cut in that frame is obscene. What are they thinking?

Also, is it true that
krusty
is being killed off? I don't really pay attention to the Simpsons anymore... Also that family guy episode sounds awful.

I really hope this isn't the case. So many jokes will be lost at the edges of the screen.

Photographed onto film (seriously, it's very easy to tell), because what cartoon wasn't back then?

While I do appreciate that the old episodes are finally being presented in HD, what I don't appreciate is that...well, LOOK! Cropping so that it won't be pillarboxed. It's terrible! Next you'll be telling me they DNR'd the grain out, possibly resulting in something like the mess that is the BD of The Sword in the Stone.

Everyone knows todays audiences can't handle pillar boxing! You gotta embiggen the picture so people don't call and complain about a problem with the show.

We'll have to wait and see if they did it cromulently and made sure to keep the gags on screen.

This gets my vote.

Homer: There can only be one truly great festival a lifetime and it's the "Us Festival".
Clerk: The what festival?
Homer: The "Us Festival"! Geez! It was sponsored by the guy from Apple Computers.
Clerk: What computers?

Fixed.

Chicken Tonight's "I Feel Like" ad campaign lasted much longer over here and I think is still sold in stores.

What's the consensus on The Golden Era? For me (just having started watching from season 2) it's 4 through 8. Season 3 is also very good, and 9 has a few good ones.

I can see people not including season 9 even though there are great episodes since it is relatively inconsistent and you can start to see the beginning of the end for the show. But season 3 is excellent, I think you'd have to be a grade A moron to not include it as part of the golden era.

I personally say 3-9, but I get the people 3-8.

For me, it's not like it suddenly got bad from one season to the next. It was just like the proportion of good episodes to bad episodes just got worse with each progressive season. There were still gems in the later seasons, but just fewer and fewer each time.

Well...maybe it was for the best. Now I...I finally have time to do what I've always wanted: write the great American novel. Mine is about a futuristic amusement park where dinosaurs are brought to life through advanced cloning techniques. I call it "Billy and the Cloneasaurus."

Oh, you have _got_ to be kidding sir. First you think of an idea that has already been done. Then you give it a title that nobody could possibly like. Didn't you think this through... [later]...was on the bestseller list for eighteen months! Every magazine cover had... [later]...most popular movies of all time, sir! What were you thinking?! [realizing] I mean, thank you, come again.
