I think it's huuuuuge HUGE leap to assume they're cropping old episodes for the app just because they're cropped in the commercial. There's no earthly way they'd show pillarboxing in a spot like that. The actual shots we've seen of the app have that right side of content (script, etc) which would be a perfect cover for the required pillarboxing.
I don't know though, what do they do when they air Dumbo or Pinnochio on Disney these days? There's your answer.

Who Will Die on the Season Premiere?
This clip was awful in so many ways. Terribly unfunny and Julie Kavner was having one of her "off" days. Absolute garbage.
I'll be doing the Season 26 official thread again this season so I can suffer for you guys and note the 3-4 episodes worth watching but man, I have a feeling The Simpsons Guy might be the better of the two shows on premiere night.

I wouldn't really recommend one season as a whole (although if you pointed a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I'd probably say Season 15). There are a ton of individual episodes from the past 15 years I would endorse, though. I would recommend going that route to partake in post-classic era Simpsons as opposed to arbitrarily sticking to a season and watching all of the bad eps.

Yeah Julie Kavner sounds awful in that clip, jeez.
Also that "who will die?" roster as if it's not going to be Hyman Krustofsky. A bunch of beloved main/recurring characters and one who's been in 3 episodes.

In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is a magic xylophone, or something? Ha ha, boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

(I was going through some old things at my dad's house and stumbled upon my POG collection. Needless to say these were the best of the bunch.)
I had a few packs of those. Don't know what I did with them, though.

I had to look that up as well. Apparently a bunch of those Pog characters are from a Radioactive Man comic that they put out at the time. Never appeared on the show.
