The Toshihiro Nagoshi Appreciation Thread

In this thread, we give love to one of the greatest people in the video gaming industry and the most brilliant person working at Sega (pffft who the **** is Yu Suzuki).

Because without him, we wouldn't have...

F-Mother****in-Zero Mother****in-GX Well, Nintendo would have made it anyway, but it would have sucked balls like F-Zero X did without Sega AV.

Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza and Ryu Ga Gotoku 2.

So NeoGAF, when you're thinking of praising someone in the gaming industry; someone like Miyamoto, Tezuka, Eguchi, Horii, Kawazu, Kitase, Sakaguchi, Kojima, Igarashi, Suzuki, Naka, CliffyB, Jaffe, Wright, Carmack, Meier, Dyack, Molyneux or whoever else, just remember that there's a man who is not only better than them, he has a better tan as well.

He's my new hero, and RGG2, is a definitely a GOTY contender in my book!

And.. the reason' he's so dark is not because he's a George Hamilton kinda sun-tan afficianado - but he's a surfer, dude!! :D

His monthly Edge column was an amazing read. He spoke of reason's he got into the industry, turning points in his career and loads of other stuff, even a little bit about his own alcoholism.

Quality stuff.

He is also working on Sonic n the Secret Rings for Wii i think.........

Ha! I totally wish.

No, that's Yojiro Ogawa, who was part of Team Andromeda and worked on the Panzer Dragoon Saga boss battles.

I could only wish Nagoshi was working on Sonic Wii.

I wish that were true.

Because the Dreamcast 2 would be released in 2009 and it would sell 100 million consoles off the back of Ryu Ga Gotoku 3, Daytona USA 3, Super Monkey Ball 4, Spikeout whatever, Virtua Fighter 6, a not-shit 3D Sonic game, Panzer Dragoon Saga 2, Skies of Arcadia 2, Chu Chu Rocket 2 and F-Zero DCX (because Nintendo would have gone 3rd party).

And sometimes the column seem to be written under the influence. But it always was a great read.

I guess this is as good of place to say it, but I think Sega should give him the Shenmue franchise to incorporate into the Ryu Ga Gotoku universe.

Think about a game where Kiyru meets up with Ryo and together they finish the Shenmue storyline using the RGG engine and playing as both characters.

That would be the Best. System. Ever.

Nooooo, that is a horrible idea.

And the highlight of the game would be "Ryo Hazuki loses his cherry(finally)?" :lol :lol :lol

Don't get me wrong - I'm as much as a Shenmue nut as one can imagine - but I'd rather see Shenmue III in Suzuki-san style. :)

Well, isn't there about a 15-20 year time gap between Shenmue and RGG? This way Nagoshi can have a bearded rugged badass Ryo appear whose been searching for Lan Di is entire life, sorta like MGS2.

And I'd rather see Shenmue finish in RGG X than never at all :P

If done right I think it would be the best Sega game ever.

More like a bearded rugged badass Ryo who ended up in organized crime himself after spending years hanging around those guys.

Oh, hey, that would actually be pretty cool.

Ryo becomes the boss of the Hokkaido Yakuza. Kiryu has to take him down.

"He is essentially the only talent left there now, there is no "one of". When he leaves, it is pretty much all over."

What about the lady who created Phantasy Star? She also works on Sakura Taisen, Skies of Arcadia and other Sega rpg's and doesnt she work on Shinobi too since its R&D7, if we ever get another Skies of Arcadia I am sure we'll see another thread like this praising her. And what about Juro Watari, Kawagoe and all those other Sonic Team vets. and who is the guy that made Intial D? Is he the one that makes the Sega Rally games?

And techinically isnt Naka still a Sega developer since Sega still owns part of PROPE.

He's the only talent left on the consumer side (not tough when your competition's Sonic Team and the shells of UGA/Overworks/Yu Suzuki). SEGA AM has been rocking nonstop on Chihiro/Lindbergh tho.

It'd be a step in the right direction after Naka. SEGA's consumer teams are sort of floundering these days imo... they should put Nagoshi in charge with Reiko as 2nd in command! SEGA!!

Nagoshi was also quite involved in Space Harrier and Afterburner iirc. Probably why his team handled Planet Harriers.

He was also involved with the original Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing game as a CG designer under Yu Suzuki before he got his big break with Daytona.

My girlfriend defiled this picture of Nagoshi. She thinks he is totally ganguro.

Amusement Vision have yet to disappoint. I'm not a massive fan of all their games, but I always recognise that they're excellent examples of their genres. For instance, I didn't really get into F-zero GX, but it is awesome.

Toshihiro Nagoshi is one of my favorite people in game development. but I am extremely upset that Sega ruined the home versions of the Daytona experience. no home version is really that good other than the music.

Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii are all capable of handling exact replicas of Daytona and Daytona 2.

whereas the Dreamcast and PS2 are not/were not. being that PS2 cannot seem to handle Model2 games without sacrifices and Dreamcast cannot handle Model3 games without sacrifices, dispite the fact that both consoles have more raw computing/cpu power than those old arcade systems -- their graphics systems are flawed enough to prevent exact reproductions of the Model2 and Model3 games.

but that's all gone with the new current-generation systems: Xbox360, Wii and PS3.

I'd also love to see an all new Daytona 3 as an arcade game on a Xbox 360 or PS3 based arcade board, then ported home within a year of arcade release.

F-Zero was exellent on GameCube, although not as great as Daytona, Daytona 2 or even
Scud Race.

Spike Out was a HUGE disappointment on Xbox. seemed cheap, rushed and looked terrible compared to the original, dispite being technically more advanced. the arcade versions looked more colorful and just better overall, even if they had fewer polygons and lower resolution.

Ultra-mega-hyper-bump.

We can expect more Nagoshi genius with Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 on the PS3(not confirmed, but obvious). It shall be magnificent. Kiryu Kazama will **** shit up in 1080p HD.

I assume he only introduced Valkyrie Of The Battlefield to the conference and isn't actually involved in it.

Also, the mother****er has transcended man and become Japanese Elvis.

Kikuchi gets no love. He's the director of JSR, JSRF and both Ryu Ga games :(
He co-produced the Yakuzas with Nagoshi (who was also project supervisor btw), they had a different director iirc.

Hmm, how is Yakuza? I've been wanting to try some action games (I've only played RPGs this summer :lol The most action-y game I've played recently is Odin Sphere.)

Meh. F-Zero X was the true milestone. GX did a nice job of putting some nice gloss over it with a higher budget but missing some cool features.

I'm not too impressed by the list of games. Yakuza was cool but i don't know how good i consider it having lost interest half way.

Dat bump tho.

But for the man that made F-Zero GX, the man that stole my heart. Bless you Nagoshi, please make more F-Zero, for the love of god please.
