The Verge: "Microsoft is restructuring Xbox distribution across central Europe, resulting in some Xbox operations ceasing in some region"

I don't get this. The Series X/S are well made machines, and arguably the Series X is a better machine than the PS5 in almost every measure. Just look at the recent game comparisons. Series X is competitive with PS5 Pro whilst being cheaper and consuming 30% less power.

The software lineup for XGS is far more questionable; the games just don't do good numbers on Steam and often get middling reviews. If anything, Xbox could be best as an Apple like platform where they hardly make games and collect revenue from third party software. Aside from Sony exclusives, Xbox has almost every major Steam game w/ controller available on their console store.

And again someone doesn't understand teraflops ultimately don't mean a thing. No consumer outside a select few is going to spot or care about these minimal differences in performance.

PS5 is outselling Xbox by like 4:1 worldwide for a reason. And it isn't teraflops, trust me.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Microsoft wants to replace all human staff in its company and replace them with an AI that manages Gamepass and its online store.

In that case MS should do the next step and replace all human Xbox gamers with AI personas that have been taught to play games in Xbox Cloud. Then watch that MAU go up, up, UP! Anytime investors become critical of Xbox Gaming MS can easily add a couple more million AI gamers to satisfy even their harshest critics because engagement and CCU numbers go through the roof every time they release a big game.

Feels like they're done with hardware and just floundering about with a Hail Mary sticker play. I really hope they spin off Xbox to another company and drop any more pretenses about future hardware. Give the brand an actual chance for once.

The hardware isn't the problem, its reasons to own one that is (exclusives)

The reason is branding. PlayStation is the default gaming brand and people just buy their consoles on relflex. It helps that the PS5 is mostly a competent console product that offered a big upgrade over PS4 for a good price. A shame about the liquid metal issue….

PlayStation could end exclusives and port all their games to other platforms and it wouldn't make a dent in console sales.

Good. Let exclusives die. There is no reason for them to exist outside of console multiplayer security. If the hardware can't stand up on it's own then maybe it shouldn't exist in the space.

I honestly don't think they care so much about hardware anymore, it's all about getting Xbox games and services to as many devices as possible.
It's obvious they're abandoning to traditional console market.
Personally I don't think this strategy is going to go anywhere, I don't see the point when you can just build a pc.

To give them credit at least they're providing a means for the hardcore faithful to carry their accounts with them.

This is the biggest take away from all of this. Nothing more, nothing less.
