The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

Not when you put No More Heroes in there.

You could theoretically play both of the No More Heroes games without waggle. You could play the first one on PS3 with the DualShock 3 controller and then play the second game on Wii with the Classic Controller. Bam, no waggle whatsoever.

Hnng that's the second Australian copy of Punch-Out in this thread.

I really regret not buying it at launch considering it was a limited JB exclusive release. My UK import haunts my collection lol

Found an AU/NZ copy today in EB and thought of you. Bought it, lol.

Amazing, man. I'm replaying the first Prime on the Cube and it makes me wish I had the Wii Trilogy. A shame it's so hard to find.

Nintendo, please release Trilogy Remastered with pointer controls pls thx.

I actually overwhelmingly prefer the GC controls. I always regretted selling my GC copies of Prime 1 and 2. Rebought 2, need to get the first game again at some point.

Problem is, the games were really designed around the GC controller, and suddenly being able to weave around with the Wiimote kinda takes away from the experience.

3 is great, though.

Yep, though I've heard a lot of negative things about the PS3 version (though... I dunno, I liked it.) The thing is, NMH is one of those games that really does feel so, so good with motion controls. It's brilliant.

Neat. I pulled the trigger on buying a Red Wii. It's just such a striking color, and every time I glance over at my grimy-ass Wii I got back at launch, I feel like this is something I needed.

Kinda sorta.

Edit: Oops, double post. I should know better than that.

Despite the great pointer controls, I prefer the GC controls. Especially for beam switching with the C-stick, was really intuitive in the final boss battle. It wasn't that bad on Wii, but definitely prefer playing on a Wavebird.

Are the controls For Prime 3 good enough to just buy the trilogy, or should I pick them up individually? Played The first when it was released but never finished and would like to revisit it.

The reason it exists is because the controls are so wonderful.

NMH are not waggle games. The main portion of the combat is done with buttons and only finishing moves require a few slashes. The recharge move is the only thing that can be classified as waggle. If someone feels so sickened by moving their wrist a few times they don't deserve to play cool games like this. Seriously.

Motion controls != waggle. Get real.

And now comes the part where you sell it to me right? :P

Well if you're serious, it just depends on me checking my other copies. I believe I have a spare AU/NZ copy but wasn't sure on its condition (or 100% that it wasn't UK PAL), so I bought this new one when I saw it. Next time I'm back at where my games are stored I'll check the others.

Getting a wii u for Christmas made me go back and check for a few games I missed out on when I had a wii and I wanna know:

WHEN IN THE HELL ARC RISE FANTASIA SHOOT UP IN PRICE?

Like a year ago, I think. At least, that's when I started noticing it going up in price.

Was the game actually any good? I really never heard anything about it, but if it's a legitimately great RPG, I'll buy it.

Yeah, for sure I'm serious. If you could have a look I'd really appreciate it <3

Gamestop is flooded with copies that were reprinted. It doesn't include the steelcase, or some of the extra's like the map, but it includes all 3 games. If your lucky they may just have the steelcase version also. That's how I got mine when they first reprinted it for gamestop a while ago.

Chocobos Dungeon is awesome all the way around. Crystal Bearers...has really good graphics, and an amazing soundtrack...but falls hard after the introduction.

Its worth playing, but go in with low expectations (for gameplay). Actually I should probably pick it back up and attempt a complete playthrough.

I really liked Crystal Bearers. The explorable world was really cool for me, even if it needed a map, and I really liked all the events and stuff that you could get to happen. I don't think that I've met anyone else that has liked it though. The combat gets old and wish they could have done more with a gravity power then just pulling things around, but fighting against bigger things gets pretty interesting.

Awwww yeah:

I need to drop a mod chip in there, but still. It's here!

I literally don't even know where to start. Probably with Mario Galaxy, but who knows?

I think my problem is just the missed potential. Its got an interesting universe, and could have been a great action RPG with some nice third person shooter + gravity control mechanics.

You could take screenshots in game right?

Why mod chip it? Dont you just need custom firmware to be able to boot imports?

Why a mod chip? Why not just install homebrew? Or are you the same guy I asked that question a few days ago already? :D

Indeed, softmodding is super easy and enables everything you need.

Any tips for local multiplayer games? Me and my girlfriend really liked New super mario bros, and taking turns playing Super Mario Galaxy. She likes Mario Kart as well, though Super smash bros is a bit complex to get into for her.

Have you considered party games? Wii Sports and the Ravid Rabbids games never get old.

House of the Dead Overkill is much fun in coop. Gory but over the top.

[edit] Oh this is the waggle-free thread. Nevermind then.

lol, I am the same dude, indeed. I wanna modchip it because it won't mess with the firmware at all -- it just attaches to the DVD drive and says "yo bro, this UK copy of whatever game is totally fine."

Besides, you don't even have to solder Wii modchips in. It's pretty damn easy.

But then you're missing out on the Fatal Frame 4 fan translation! (Or you don't care about that, which is fine^^)

Let's Tap
Disney Guilty Party
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Disney's Epic Mickey 2(Wii version is good)

The Overlooked Wii Gems and MadWorld threads inspired me to pickup several games today. Spent about $30 on:

Endless Ocean
MadWorld
Geometry Wars Galaxies
EA Grand Slam Tennis
Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars
A Boy and His Blob

There are a few more on my wantlist, but I figure these will keep me busy for a little while.

Picked these up for about $60 all complete.

De Blob
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
Wario Land: Shake It!
The Conduit
Mario Strikers Charged
Super Mario Galaxy (already played 2)
Last Story

I'm currently going through Twilight Princess so eventually I'll pick up Skyward Sword.

Gamestop I think.

Makes a lot of sense since FE is a niche game and reprinting a niche game in the US and sending it to all the various stores would be kinda silly. Which retailer would buy copies other than the one that specializes in video games and probably is aware of the price used copies on eBay bring in and thus the enthusiast demand. The same logic that lead to the MPTrilogy and Xenoblade reprints.

Gamestop I think.

It was probably me that mentioned it. I don't think it's just Gamestop. There are new copies on eBay that show 2014 in the copyright information, where as my original copy does not show 2014 in the copyright information.

Further evidence is that new copies were routinely going for upwards of $100 with only a few copies available on Amazon and eBay. There now appear to be close to an unlimited supply at ~$80.

There are other games that have been reprinted as well. One example is the game Calling. New copies were routinely going for $100+ and suddenly Amazon and eBay were flooded with numerous sellers offering them at $40 and they continued to drop until they reached less than $20. Shortly after these new copies started showing up Gamestop has them available at nearly every store and online.

Glad others get to experience these games but I really wish they wouldn't be so shady about these reprints. A Nintendo Selects option where the games were cheaper and it was easy to determine which games were first print versus reprints would be ideal.

Your modchip enables the Wii to talk to you? Damn, bro.

Installing HBC doesn't mess with the firmware either as it's just installing an app/channel, it's super easy, works with just an SD card on the regular Wii, and lets you play imports without any modchip or firmware modification through GeckoOS. I can confirm that for both my Wii and WiiU, which can't play backups, however plays my imported copy of Brawl perfectly fine through this.

Installing custom firmware is only necessary once you want to play backups.

Wait wait wait....wait.

You can use the HBC on WiiU as well?

In that case, time to track down a good list of Wii imports.

Sweet. I just found a copy of Return to Dreamland for $30. The store I went to hasn't clued in to its higher value yet. They actually had another copy a couple of days ago for the same price, but it had a puncture wound through the case and I passed on it before it flew off store shelves. Glad I did!

Hope it's a good game! I love Kirby. Even when the first one came out when I was 8 years old, it was never hard... But it's still lots of fun anyway. You've got to love the charm and the music :)

I think if I ever find a copy of Radiant Dawn I'll have most of the rarish first party stuff....

Man, an Australian copy of Punch-Out just ended on eBay, ended up at $71. I really wanted it but it was just past my limit. The game is dirt cheap for a UK copy (which I already own).

There's another one up now for $49 but it has an ugly sticker stain on the manual so nah.

I am sure I will find one for a reasonable price one day. Eventually someone that's clueless will pop one up for the going price of a UK copy. That or a fellow GAFer will hook me up ;)

Oh shoot I haven't had a chance to check my storage yet but should be able to this Saturday when I visit home. I'll have a dig for my spare copy!

I actually considered messaging you to remind you about that before bidding in case it went to crazy prices, but it went out of my range anyway so no harm done :P

My fingers are crossed that your spare is an Australian copy!

You could just print an aussie cover, save yourself 70 bucks.

I def have a spare a Aus copy cos I got it from JB Hifi. I went through my stuff last weekend and couldn't find it, think I need to go deeper but won't be able to basically until I move house again. I won't forget about you though :)

Hey AusGAF, any recommendations of where l can pick up Twilight Princess without paying $50? I've been looking out for a used copy at my local EBGames ect but no luck.

Do you also have this weird restriction that it has to be an AUS copy? Because the game is dirt cheap over here in EU-land's various amazon incarnations.
