The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

You should. I really have a soft spot for that game.

The reason I ask is because there's an AU copy of the DS game on ebay atm which is a rare sight. I hate EU copies of DS games because of the ugly fat clear cases so I've been waiting for an AU one to pop up :P

I think I'll just grab it, I won't miss the $20 if I end up not liking it.

Is Nights 2 worth to be purchased?
Of course it's dirty cheap these days, but it the game worth of my time?

I really liked the first Sonic on Saturn.

Ah I getcha. It just means it's multi language, so an English only copy with a green triangle probably doesn't exist. Thanks.

Also, has anyone played the Another Code games? I sort of want to add the Wii one to my collection but feel like I should play the DS one first.

Trace Memory was actually what sold me on buying a DS. I'd pick it up if you plan on playing the sequel.

NiGHTS into Dreams is one of my all-time favourite games if not my favourite one.
Yet the Wii one is nowhere close to being as good.
It's not a terrible game, just a very huge letdown.

The NiGHTS levels themselves are pretty good, although the flying doesn't feel as good as in the original. Nor is the level design as focussed and well crafted as the Saturn one.
The whole score attack system is kinda broken as well which is the most depressing part when it comes to lack of features since this is what gave the original it's massive replayability.

The story parts in between really drag, as do the on foot levels which aren't good at all.

If you can get it very cheap, I'd say maybe give it a try. But don't expect too much of it.
You might end up hating it...

How many of you have played Castle of Shikigami 3? Is it really worth me tracking down?
I like this series a lot. If you like the genre there are a ton of nods to other shooters in the way some of the characters play. Anyway I bought it day 1 full price and got my money's worth. Still need to get that 1cc tho.

Its my fav console ever, or at the very least, my most played.

A lot of creative and unique stuff, that we'll probably never going to ser again.

Kororinpa 1 or 2 or Mercury Meltdown Revolution? What's better?

Mercury Meltdown is completely different from Kororinpa, it's slow and deliberately paced (due to being originally designed for joystick controls), with more of a focus on puzzles. Kororinpa was built from the ground up with tilt controls in mind and it shows, with a fast-paced arcade feel and level designs featuring much more demanding layouts and obstacles. You'll often be forced to tilt the entire stage 90 degrees to navigate your marble up walls, which adds a LOT of complexity to the game.

As for which Kororinpa is better: Marble Saga obliterates the original in terms of content, with more than 5 times as many available levels, plus a level editor -- but for some reason they decided to mess with the original's perfect physics, with near disastrous results. With the new physics, the marbles you have access to at the beginning of Marble Saga all feel sticky and unresponsive, like they're constantly rolling through molasses. Fortunately you can unlock more marbles relatively quickly which feel a lot closer to the snappy, responsive controls of the original game. Or, you can unlock the best marble at the start of the game by inputting a code, which I highly recommend doing. Once you get past this control issue, Marble Saga is easily the better game.

The original is better for one simple reason:

Seriously, what the fuck is that boxart for the sequel? Looks like any random piece of shovelware.

Oh, interesting!

Is Master Higgins Ball the best? Do the control/physic match the original with that ball?

Just thought I'd chime in that Excite Bots is excellent, and should be played by anyone that misses the old SNES Mario Kart gameplay (very few items, tons of shortcuts). Hugely underrated game IMO.

Not underrated at all. Everyone loves it. Problem is, barely anyone knows about it and it only came out in North America. Japan only got it way later exclusively via Club Nintendo which is bananas. I'd classify as overlooked/hidden gem.

Word is that Excitebots started life as Donkey Kong Racing 2, and when licensing and acquiring the extra non-Banjo Rare-created characters fell apart, the DKC animal buddy-themed vehicles became animal robot vehicles.

Well I haven't plopped it in myself as I'm about to head out to work, but it's part of the arcade racing series GTI Club from Konami.

One of the games was ported to the PS3 as well as a download only game.
Not sure which courses and such are included in this one yet, but if you enjoy real arcade racers unlike the "arcade like" racers Burnout and such, this might be something to check out.

Terrible blurry video, but I don't have time to hunt down a better version right now.

Hey Gaf. Considering getting a Classic Controller Pro (I was stupid and didn't get one when they were new, and now I'll be paying the same for a used one, if not more) But, then I saw Hori is released the Gamecube style battle pad which is basically a classic controller as far as compatiability goes. Which one should I go with?!

Oh hey I loved racing in Monaco in the original arcade one, with the handbrake on the side. Legit fun game.

Nice collection. But why did you get the US-version of NMH2? They were public about the sequel not receiving a toned-down release in EU.

i couldnt wait till the eu-release which was i think some months away.
and i think during that time it was cheaper to buy us/can. games than buying the game in germany.

Ah yes, end of January for US, end of May for PAL. Makes sense :D (poor Japan had to wait until October!)

Am I right that that PES game with 'Playmaker controls' was actually really good?

No doubt it's cheap as chips by now, which year's PES was it?

I'm trying to round out my Wii collection before the games become hard to find in stores. Currently looking for some good import games (US resident). I just imported Another Code R and Disaster Day of Crisis, and I'm looking to import Captain Rainbow in the future when/if the fan translation comes out. Anything else for a non-Japanese speaker?

Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (EU) & Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (JP)

Oh right I forgot about those. Going to get FFIV for sure. Is PZ2 the definitive version of the game? I have it on Xbox but would definitely double dip if the Wii one is better.

Zangeki no Reginleiv by Sandlot. It's literally the medieval fantasy version of Earth Defense Force.

There's two One Piece games only out in EU. Never tried them, but it's like Unlimited World Red, so if you happen to like that one, one might go back to these.

Probably not. The graphics might be a bit better, but the controls aren't really good. They work, but Grasshopper have put some really non-intuitive ones into the games (well, into 4, but the remake has the same). They couldn't even get the flashlight controls right.

People can argue for both. It's not necessarily better but it's different. It's third person behind the back camera instead of fixed angles. It's mechanically based on Zero 4 and refined those controls. Absolutely worth getting even if you have the original version.

My favourite racing game (probably ever) was excite truck.

Wasted so much time on that game and I am not normally into racing games.

Honourable mention to RE 4 Wii, one of the few games I did not sleep and played start to finish....amazing.

Shame there has been nothing really like them since...from anyone...

Eyeshield 21 if you want to see Nintendo's take on Tecmo Bowl. Not too Japanese heavy either.

Thanks guys, looks like I have a good idea of what import games I'm getting in the near future! Didn't hear about Zangeki no Reginleiv until now. Looks to be pretty expensive at the moment but hopefully I'll be able to get it eventually. For the non-US folks in this thread I'd be happy to help send US-only games if needed to help you guys out.

One more question, as I'm sure this'd help others in the thread as well. Are there any tricks to getting some of the expensive Wii games right now? There are a bunch of Wii games that are worth $40, $50, $60, etc. and I was wondering if there's a way to get some of these games while saving some money. I feel like GameStop is artificially keeping a lot of these prices high and I'm not sure whether these prices should be so insane. I'm trying to get Mario Party 9 and Mario Sports Mix but it'd hurt me to pay what they cost at the moment :(

One thing you could try, if you're going down the import/fan translation (implying HBC) route anyway, is check what the game costs overseas in Europe (check gamefaqs/wiki for potentially completely different titles). Sometimes a game is dirt cheap in one region and hella expensive in the other.
