The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

Wow...very, very good OP, you really nailed it down and covered the most important aspects of the system.
There wasn't a single thing I didn't agree on ( but I rather enjoyed Metroid other M), or something that was left out ( Other then the amazing Pes with pointer controls ).

Really, congratulations, It was a good read and a good reminder of why I really love my Wii.
Another great thing about it ( but it falls on the gray area of piracy ) , is the homebrew scene and some great emulators that coupled with an RGB cable and an old CRT TV, make for what it is probably the ultimate retro system.

Cheers.

NTSC Wiis don't output RGB, right? Gotta settle for component :/

I picked up a Nunchuk and Wii Remote Plus over the weekend. Couldn't find any deals on Wii games. Tenchu 4 and Xenoblade will be my first games.

Which version of Muramasa is better, Wii or Vita? I have the Vita one on PS+. I expect to get a PSTV at some point when the whitelist stops being so pathetic.

Interesting, like the GameCube before it I spent most of the Wii generation importing NTSC copies of games so I had no idea - I'll keep an eye out for it round here in NZ!

Hi guys! Which one should I pick between de Blob and de Blob 2? I see that the first has a better critical reception, but I'd like to know what you guys think. I can get any of the two for around the same price, but I'm not picking up both, at least not right now, I have other games to buy before.

what's the best way for me to get a decent price on stuff like xenogears, metroid prime, pandoras tower and the last story? (eu)

do these titles come up at reasonable prices from time to time on ebay or similar, or do you just have to suck it up?

xenoblade. not gears.

you'll have to suck it up. besides, 30 EUR on amazon.de or 15-20 pounds on amazon UK (marketplace) isn't that bad for pandora's tower anyway.

I've had Metroid Trilogy sitting on my shelf for years. I bought it when it came out so I could have all three Metroids on a disc.

I had a hankering to play Metroid Prime this weekend, and popped it in for the first time.

I had no idea whatsoever that they added Wii pointer controls to the original two games I always assumed they were just the GC games on the disc and required a GC controller.

Holy crap, these controls are so good. And they made the game 16:9 native?

Wow does this game hold up. Rough textures and no AA, but other than that, they certainly don't make games like this any more. The atmosphere is unrivaled.

Huh? You bought it at launch but didn't pay any attention to the promo cycle that mentions what these are or read the back of the box?

damn. it was xenoblade in particular that's been killing me too :/ sorry about the game title, my brain has been melted today.

just look at all possible options in EU. amazon has sites for FR, IT, ES, DE, UK to pick from, all with varying prices, for example.

I just noticed that Play-Asia have Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Europe) for sale for ~€13.

Seems like a good price for a new copy for those who have missed out on this little gem.

You probably all already played Rayman Origins, but for some reason I only got to pick it up yesterday (in a bargain bin for 8€). And damn it's a good game! I can only play it on my own though, no multiplayer for me.

Does Castlevania Judgment have ANY redeeming value? I'm thinking of finally getting it since I'm a Castlevania fan but I know it's pretty crappy too.

I'm halfway through Lost in Shadow (A Shadow's Tale in Europe) and I'm having a blast. This overlooked Hudson game is soooo good!

It's a platformer with puzzle elements and Ico-like atmosphere. Not really a masterpiece, but it is a pretty good game overall and has some genuine great moments.

If you guys can find it for cheap on ebay and like this kind of game, absolutely go for it.

NeoGAF OT

Went into a local shop in downtown Milwaukee to kill some time before my next exam and found a copy of A Boy and His Blob for ten bones. My favorite finds are always the unplanned ones.

Alright, I think I'm just about ready to finally pull the trigger on a new Wii, to replace my old grimy one from 2006. I want to double check before I buy it, though: is there any disadvantage to buying a US Wii instead of a Japanese one if I intend to put a modchip in it? I don't want to run into any incompatibilities with games from Japan.

The actual fighting engine is solid(pretty much at the top of the power stone genre in terms of combo potential), the musical arrangements are top notch, and the item descriptions are hilarious. The netplay and online community was pretty solid when it was up as well. It isn't a bad by game by any stretch.

Why on earth would you want a modchip when everything necessary for playing import games can be done via softmodding?!

Girlfriend surprised me yesterday with a belated Xmas gift in the form of HOTD: Overkill. We plan on playing it tonight after we celebrate the Packers winning the division.

Picked up Madworld for $3 from GameStop. Was that a steal or is the game actually not very good?

It's kind of a love it or hate it game. I fall into the "love it" category. It's a modern day beat-em-up with a lot of style, and a fantastic soundtrack. And the story is surprisingly good. It does get a bit repetitive at times, but in short bursts, it's a great time.

Glad to see someone enjoying Lost in Shadow. I was one of the only people on the planet that bothered picking it up the day it came out. No regrets, it was a pretty nice (albeit not amazing) puzzle platformer game.

I got my games down from home, and appear to have lost a DVD wallet with games in, so I now have 8ish Wii boxes with no game in, including Brawl which I want for Nintendont. Grr. Anywhere good for disc only? :P

Just got Final Fantasy Chocobo's Dungeon, Crystal Bearers and Echoes of Time all in one go for £23. Good deal or no? I couldn't find them individually for under £10 each. Either way it's satisfying to complete my Final Fantasy collection on Wii in one quick go. Which one should I try out first? I hear Echoes of Time is just a crummy DS port - is Chocobo's Dungeon any good? I loved the Pokemon DS games.

Also picked up Boom Street (Fortune Street to some of you). So excited to try it out at a New Year's Party I'm going too.

I think the Wii might be the first console I attempt a "complete" collection of games I want for (excluding games like Metroid Prime Trilogy and Kirby's Return to Dreamland, I imagine they'll be long term goals). I can find stuff for so cheap in used game stores, plus it's just nice to be able to go down to the city and actually buy stuff for my game collection, unlike GameCube and earlier which all has to get done online (which results in it being very hard to find good deals), not just stuff for new consoles which is expensive.

Still so many games I want to try. Endless Ocean, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sin and Punishment 2, Rhythm Heaven, Kororinpa, Battalion Wars 2, Wario Land....and I consider my collection pretty great already! I also just homebrewed my Wii, so I'm finally looking to import stuff like Excite Bots, Captain Rainbow and Mario Super Sluggers. The best bit is as far as I know chasing any of that stuff isn't going to be an expensive nightmare.

Chocobos Dungeon is awesome all the way around. Crystal Bearers...has really good graphics, and an amazing soundtrack...but falls hard after the introduction.

Its worth playing, but go in with low expectations (for gameplay). Actually I should probably pick it back up and attempt a complete playthrough.

Are the controls For Prime 3 good enough to just buy the trilogy, or should I pick them up individually? Played The first when it was released but never finished and would like to revisit it.

I had no idea that Wii Mini dropped net connectivity, ports, gamecube, etc. I was looking at one of those before I bought a Wii U. Can you imagine buying one of those things and finding out all that shit later? I'd have been taking it back to the store.

Wii U for life anyway. Great thread. You forgot to mention Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, but I suppose thats because its a "waggle free" thread, so now that I think about it it makes sense.

Not when you put No More Heroes in there.

Amazing, man. I'm replaying the first Prime on the Cube and it makes me wish I had the Wii Trilogy. A shame it's so hard to find.

Nintendo, please release Trilogy Remastered with pointer controls pls thx.
