Sony showed a piece of hardware that's probably around $500 that doesn't really have any appealing software that's going to sell anyone on the console.
I honestly think nintendo feels pretty good after watching that.
The Wii U is more expensive than the PS3 and XBox 360, the games run worse, most third party games aren't even available on it, its online features are extremely basic, and it lacks a community of online players.

Correct, no one is buying the Wii U, therefore it doesn't have a massive installbase. It's almost as if the console came out three months ago and there isn't a massive installbase instantly.
Now I wonder, did this happen to Call of Duty 2 at the 360's launch...hmmmmm

That's a good question about COD2, I would like an answer to that too.
More people bought it in the first three months than those who bought the 360 or PS3 in their first three months.
The 360 was supply constrained.
Wii U was all over the stores in January and people didn't buy it.

Seriously. Based on what we've heard of the machines so far, I'd say Wii U is in the last-gen position of an imaginary system that's two Wiis duct-taped together and released in mid-2005.... No.
Nah, it was the big game at X360 launch, the NSMBU position for what it was worth.Magic Ovaries said:That's a good question about COD2, I would like an answer to that too.

2) The graphical gap is not as wide as a lot of people tought. Wii U version of multiplat games would certainly be possible. Afterall we are hearing about a lot of crossgen ps3/ps4 titles. if it runs on ps3 it can run on wiiu.
3) watch dogs also on wiiu (maybe this one is a little bit of wishful thinking) is a sign that third parties have not abandoned the ship

Will this hold after four months?
Umm...
Is the WiU version released?
Handhelds =! ConsolesWe have been going through this same cycle since PSP vs. DS.
Sony shows the graphically superior machine, and a good segment of the gamers say Nintendo is toast.
But that is never the case, and more times than not, Nintendo trounces Sony.
We don't know the price yet, but this thing is likely to cost $499 US Dollars minimum. In today's economy, with all the other entertainment options out there, and the diminishing returns the upgrade in visuals will provide to the masses, I think Nintendo is feeling pretty good this morning.

I have never heard of this one before, is it any good?
I love Nintendo, want to see them around for generations to come but to ignore that they aren't in a rough position right now is the height of nativity.
It's just a screen shot of Need for Speed Most Wanted U (on the Wii U). It's a little arcade-like but still really fun imo.
The Wii U is in the same place. Nintedno platforms are in a league of their own.
Wii U should find its own niche as the cheaper and more friendly of the next-gen consoles. If Nintendo successfully position it that way in the coming months then it'll be fine.
Problem is the wiiu isnt cheap and nintendo is still losing money on it
I kind of feel the same way about the bolded. I've got little issue with Nintendo the company.I love Nintendo. I really do. They bring a unique approach to games and a style that no one has ever been able to duplicate. If they were to disappear from the hardware scene it would be a sad day for gaming.
It's not Nintendo that annoys me but there often immature and insecure fanboys that seem to operate in some fantasy bubble that refuses to see Nintendo's real problems and challenges.
They are at a technological disadvantage compared to the other two. And this gap will only magnify going forward. They are struggling to garner support both from consumers and developers. Both of which will compound both problems. Less developers mean less avenues to gain interest. Less consumers means less rationale for developers to port or develop for the console without subsidization. The control scheme has not captured the same casual crowd fervor the wiimote did and recent sales speak to this. Their online infastructure is weak. Marred with problems.
One thing is sure though, they will maintain their loyal fanbase. The question will become can wiiU survive on that fanbase, propped up by mostly their own developed games with a few 2nd and 3rd party games throw in? Especially with the rise in development costs associated with going from essentially two generation old hardware to HD hardware? Can they maintain enough output and frequency that gamers won't get frustrated?

I don't want to hear Nintendo is doing their own thing crap, people want solid games not just from Nintendo if they purchase a Wii U.
The ps4 showed a level of visual fidelity not possible the WiiU. It might get a year of extremely watered down ports, but the ps4 and next xbox will pull ahead so far that the WiiU will end up in the exact same position as last gen, when i comes to 3rd party software.

Imo the WiiU is in a better shape, because of the gamepad which can make certain multiplats (Sport games, tactical shooters, RTS) the definitive versions besides "bad" visuals and off TV play. Also I'm confident the WiiU will be the best console for local multiplayer (still the superior multiplayer and wil always be) thanks to 5 player split screen multi and asymmetrical gameplay. Also whole new genres could be invented like the obviuos Battalion Wars as an Real time strategy third person shooter (this has to happen).
The gamepad is a huge advantage imo, which could outweigh some of the disadvantages if done right and I'm sure that 95% of the people downplaying the possibilities that come with the gamepad don't own a WiiU. The problem with the concept is, it is hard to market, because people need to experience it, it is hard to "get" when only seen in a 30 second commercial.
All the things stated above can also be done on the PS4 using the Vita, but the advantage of the WiiU is that the PS4 doesn't come with a gamepad clone out of the box. Also while the yesterday shown visuals are really amazing, imo the leap can be compensated to a large extend on the WiiU by a great artstyle, but of course with a lower resolution and framerate and a worse IQ (so I'm nowhere saying the WiiU will produce PS4 like visuals). Also downports to the WiiU should be possible with some effort, and if the gamepad is integrated well (I'm watching at you Watch_Dogs) the sales shouldn't be too bad thanks to Miiverse and if the WiiU version also is advertised besides the PS4/720/PC versions.
In conclusion, Sony didn't copy the tablet controller out of the box and the visual leap is big on a technical level, but it is not so big that there can't be WiiU games that are able to compete with the average PS4/720 game to a certain extend, so the WiiU looks better than before, imo

Doesn't seem any worse than using outsourced launch-rushed ports to "prove" the opposite.I have a feeling that this game is going to be the "Proof" people use of the system's performance for a long, long time to come. A 5 month late "Enhanced" version.
