And I've always been the "gameplay matters most" guy, lol can't win.
I was merely discrediting someone's assertion that it was going to be the same game, which it is, but has a few differences. trust me I don't care about shiny roads.
No, i said its a geat sign that developers are starting to take advantage of the hardware. Even if it's just one that we've seen so far. lol and whats with your "subtle" jabs, do you have something to gain?
Better shape. The PS4 was basically what everyone expected: a more powerful Playstation. It doesn't do anything massivly disruptive to the console scene. And because of that I feel that the number of people out there who are going to be saying to themselves "hmmm, do I want a PS4 or a WiiU" is pretty small. Either you want both, or you know which one you want.
I mean getting better textures and gamepad features does not, in any shape or form, discredit his point. If anything it enhances it.
Wii U will get multiplats from 360 and PS3 with a few improvements, but largely the same game.
PS4/720 will get new version built to make use of their power.
In that sense, Wii U will always be left behind.
You just explained the entire wii cycle. lol... i would like a list of major third party exclusives the wii got a hold of.
Wii U is not going anywhere. The first party IPs are to die for. End of story.
Didnt the Ps2 kill the dreamcast just on hype alone and because it was considered "next gen" while the dreamcast could still compete at some level word of mouth and hype just crushed it.
...and it actually HAD third party support
The thing that will save the Wii U will be when people are standing infront of a wall of games and looking at a PS4 copy and 720 copy of the same game and a Wii U copy of Zelda or MarioHD and not finding another version of that.
First party sales are Nintendo's endgame. Always have been, always will be.
Wonderful 101 VS Knack..the thread. Someone make itSorry, but I find this rather dumb, and horribly inconsistent. I would also present the case which says they are in a stronger position than the gaming community cares to believe. You haven't even touched a PS4 game (nobody on NeoGAF has), let alone seen the console. With that in mind, how can it be a step behind, when the step in question is not even here yet? Also, I would ask whether you own one of the PS360 consoles. If the answer to that question is 'YES', then do you not feel the same about those, or more so, given that the Wii U is much more powerful than both? How about a PC? ALL consoles are behind that, and that includes the PS4. For now, all the Wii U needed was better cross-platform support, and to stay with PS360 games; Later on, it would have to hope for a solid user base, then get PS4/360 successor's games. Please note that many 8th Gen engines have been created with scalability in mind, and developers themselves have confirmed that the Wii U is capable of running them (the UE4s, Frostbite 2s, Cry Engine 3s, even Luminous is scalable to PS3s and mobiles, so it's not unthinkable to say that the Wii U can have it, too) - I was bullied in the past for pointing this out, but it doesn't make what I wrote less true. It isn't a beast of beasts, but still, it's a very efficient and very impressive piece of tech. That Monolith VS Killzone 4 picture on here is both dumb and abysmal form, too, because the flight scene was a cinematic clip VS Monolith's actual gameplay on a title which isn't finished yet. The actual gameplay visuals for Killzone 4 were still very good, but not in a way that it made Monolith's early efforts look terrible, or, Crysis 3, to take another title and something more in line with Killzone's genre.
Also, I would point you to the latest Need For Speed; Here, you can see a noticeably superior version, but if it doesn't do well, it'll be because it was released further down the line after the other versions. That game is also out of the starting blocks for the Wii U, and don't forget, it has to maintain that image quality AND display images on the GamePad, THEN have them working in time - Sometimes, two times the display for its games. This is a very critical point which gets overlooked frequently on the Internet. For Nintendo's own games, one has to allow for the fact that this is THEIR FIRST STEP into HD game development - Monolith's project, 'X', has been shown around here, and I would put it to everybody that it's very impressive for a first/early attempt. At least, the signs there are very encouraging, and they can only get better over time - It's a tragedy for the gaming community that rather than encourage them to continue in that spirit and do better, or even embrace them as newcomers to the HD era, NeoGAF and others instead resort to childish GIFs, hit-and-run posts, trollbait and downright shitting on Nintendo at every opportunity. While it is true that they have more to learn in some of these areas, they are not in a bad shape by any stretch.
I would also consider that not all games HAVE TO or NEED TO push graphics capabilities. Mega Man 9 and Retro City Rampage are every bit 7th Gen Games as Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto 4. The idea that all games do or will is a complete folly and BS, and one would've thought that a site for so-called 'games enthusiasts would get this.
Furthermore, Watch_Dogs is coming to the Wii U and PS4, so we know that it will have the tools to get PS4 games. Many are acting as if the Wii U has already reached its full potential on Day One/Launch Window port jobs, but it's barely scratched the surface. Regardless of what Console Creationists say and their grand delusions, it's an 8th Gen console, and should be regarded as in that bracket with the PS4 and the X360's successor. Those who talk it down and call it '7th Gen, 2005 tech, behind the curve' couldn't be any further from the truth. Ultimately, the games are the most important, and Nintendo is doing much right there - Indie announcements are happening every other day on Twitter, while Bayonetta 2, Lego City: Undercover, Dragon Quest X, etc. are exclusives, and games such as Sonic & ASRT, TTT2 and Scribblenauts have exclusive content. It's a long-term project, and I fully expect it to stay with the others. It should be expected to stay with the others, too. They might not compete later on in visuals, but the differences are more 6th Gen than 7th (i.e., Dreamcast or PS2 - XBox than Wii - PS360), with the Wii U positioning itself at the Dreamcast & PS2 end of the scale (possibly higher than that), and the others at the GameCube & XBox end... and I think everybody can feel more than content with that. Can anybody say with a straight face that the gameplay shots of Knack blew those of The Wonderful 101, for example, out of the water? Truthfully, I don't think anybody can. Certainly, cross-platform houses have no more excuses to ignore it, and if it is, it won't be due to a lack of power, but because they didn't want their games there. Let us come back in 2017-2018, when the Wii U is in its twilight years, and you will see the noticeable steps.

Yeah, that helped the GameCube. Heck, even the N64was crushed by the PSOne, in spite of all the nostalgia surrounding the system.
What? If anything it's more disruptive than any playstation before it.
I am dead serious.
I dont think it helped that you could download and burn pirated games with the boot loader on the same disc.
Are you talking about its relativly standard architecture? I agree that that's a really huge deal and is going to effect what games we see on it, but I don't see that as damaging to the WiiU in any way. I don't think anyone was on the fence before the PS4 was revealed about which (or both) console they want, and the PS4 didn't push anyone onto the fence

I'm talking about the social aspects, accessibility, AND architecture. These ideas will be communicated better when consumers actually get to experience this console. As Nintendo themselves said "playing is believing".
Sony's community is like Miiverse on steroids. And they are actually pushing it.
I actually laughed out loud. Fantastic.
let's plays are everywhere on youtube. Can't think of any one that will actually waste too much time using that community. All gimmicky himmicky stuff.
In what way? Other than Capcom's Deep Down demo, they wasn't really anything earthshattering when it came to the PS4's games and graphics. Killzone was just another generic on the rails FPS. And the social media stuff is something the WiiU already has in Miiverse.
As for all those saying that Wii U is gonna get left behind in the technological dust by the PS4 and the new Xbox:

Do you have something to gain by bullshitting about features or things you think are coming that haven't even been announced? I'm just giving a reality check to some of these threads. I was playing Nintendo games while you were probably getting your diapers changed, so check yourself. I have no dog in the succeed or fail fight for Nintendo, if anything considering I've played more Nintendo games in my life than any other I would be pro-Nintendo.
Saying things like "well it will get better textures and this and that" - you have absolutely no idea if that's true. All you do know is so far Ubi Soft has managed to release an even glitchier port of Assassins Creed 3 to Wii U, delayed Rayman to put it on other platforms at the same time, and Wii U's monthly sales are completely atrocious and inspire no confidence to make extra effort in games.
Yet you don't question the effort Ubi Soft is going to put in the version which will likely be the least selling version of six different platforms. Saying one of about the three third party games released in the first 8 months of this year is getting extras proves developers are putting in more time means jack shit when 99% aren't even releasing games PERIOD.
You think Ubi Soft is going to waste manhours with a version that will be by far the sixth best selling version released and completely overshadowed by whatever Nintendo releases this fall, for an already horrible selling console? You're nuts.
That's purely on a visible graphics level which is a shallow measurement in the scope of things. That being said it's true we are getting diminishing returns on observable graphics change. In what way? Other than Capcom's Deep Down demo, they wasn't really anything earthshattering when it came to the PS4's games and graphics. Killzone was just another generic on the rails FPS. And the social media stuff is something the WiiU already has in Miiverse.

What about other graphical effects like textures and DoF? Not to mention resolution...

gtfolet's plays are everywhere on youtube.
Gamecube was a disaster and N64 didn't have any games or support. I can think of 4 games on the top of my head that was gangbusters on the n64. I don't see the same happening to the U. Smash, zelda, mario, mario kart, wii sports and franchises all gonna do well.

This is the first playstation that actually doesn't focus on new media as a selling point. Hilarious right?
let's plays are everywhere on youtube.

Oh so you mean a huge chunk of the previous playstation's early adopters are not going to be there? Tell me more.

I only hope statements like this apply to WiiU too. I hopeI don't think your being fair... Imagine instead of ONE person with 60,000 triangles but 10x the amount of people that are 6,000 triangles... And the improved A.I. The better textures, the dynamic lighting, more particles, more of everything that already looks good makes that jump a significant one... And these are JUST launch titles... Most game developers hone their skill in just a few years.
Halo 3 - Halo 4. Give it time and these games are really going to be gorgeous with improvements to every aspect of gaming. It's not what you have, it's what you do with it.
The point is that some talk as if Nintendo has dominated every generation because they have characters like Mario. This is false.
We also have heard from some developers that they got final dev kits pretty late. The resulting problem was that the Wii U was out without the proper OS and with shoddy third party ports of games, save for a few.
I own Assassin's Creed III on the Wii U and I didn't notice the game being more glitchy than the other versions. That, along with Call of Duty: Black Ops II, are probably the only competent ports from the launch. So, I'm curious as to why you brought those up instead of say, Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition.
In terms of sales, Gamasutra actually had a chart that compared sales of the Wii U to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the same time frame (first 3 months). It still outperformed those two platforms. I do agree it could be better, but given the fact that it's doing better than the 360 and PS3 in the same time frame, I don't think that means developers will give up putting forth extra effort in development. Furthermore, I think the Wii U's sales are reflective of the market as I don't think Sony or Microsoft's consoles are going to perform much better once those are released.
Worse... not a surprise. They're going to have a tough time moving those things when PS4/Durango are out.
Because Ubi Soft wasn't associated with Batman.
And Re: sales timeframe trending 360 didn't have enough on the shelves to sell and PS3 was ridiculously expensive, if this tired comparison is going to continue to be made.
Wii U has plenty on the shelves and is within the same price range as the PS3 and 360 and continues to be demolished.
With new consoles you can always count on three things to pick up the system eventually: a large launch price eventually getting a cut, supply picking up if it's in demand, and game releases picking up over time as it's adopted by third parties.
With Wii U you can count on none of them. Possibly a price cut later this year, but you can already get it for $300 and the 360 and PS3 haven't even hit the budget $200 and under with their main SKUs. So any comparison you make is irrelevant. There's no evidence Wii U sales will pick up in the future outside of the Nintendo core fanbase that was there for the N64/Gamecube era.
Anyone who thinks the PS4 will match the hype the PS2 had prior to release needs to stop smoking crack.
AFAIK AC3 is a good port on the Wii U. Get your facts right.
Assassin's Creed III on the Wii U is remarkably buggy, more so than on other consoles, with glitches running the gamut from minor messiness to mission-breaking roadblocks. The game might hard crash, requiring you to unplug your system and plug it back in--and then crash again when you try to load the same save game. You might hear the action begin while you stare at a loading screen, and then be dropped into the game when you are already dead. Connor can get stuck standing in place, fully immovable, requiring you to restart the mission. A half-dozen soldiers may pop into view during a cutscene, clipping through speaking characters and totally ruining the moment. Three town criers might appear next to each other, half-clipped through each other's body and calling out the same dialogue.
These technical foibles give the Wii U version of Assassin's Creed III an air of sloppiness, though this release falls behind in other ways, too. The draw distance isn't as impressive, so characters and objects spring into existence before your eyes. Granted, that occurs in other versions too, but it's much more distracting here. The frame rate, too, is inconsistent, sometimes chugging when combat gets hot and heavy.
well the sequels to some of the best selling video games off all time are around the corner. 3D mario, Mario Kart, wiiFit U, Smash Bros. If thats not evidence, i don't know what is.
Sure thing.

Thanks for coming.
How long do you think developers incompetence will last?
