I have a 42" TV mounted in my office, so I'll be watching it and doing work at the same time. I love all the conferences, although Sony always puts me to sleep.

Wait, are the conferences going to be on tv this year? I know MS was on Spike last year, and G4 covered the others. Anyone know?

I believe so, Spike TV and Viacom have united to bring “E3 All Access Live". Whether the conferences will be available live I don't know, but I would think so considering the name of the show.

The total PSP software sold is around 300 million. It really isnt that bad concidering the limited software support in the later year, and divided on around ~70 million units (an attach rate of about 4).

But what i dont agree with is to completely ignore the fact about the hardware sales. That shows that people are interested in it, and that is a success on its own in my opinion.

I disagree, but whatever. I define hardware success by the ability to keep a business alive, and the PSP didn't. Just like the GC and N64 might have generated revenue for Nintendo, they both did fail their primary role of selling games outside of a few examples.

When a console fails to move software, it is a failure in my book. And this failure gets bigger the more consoles are on the market.

Nintendo will have to do a lot to have the WiiU become that kind of machine. I actually think the WiiU will make Nintendo money, maybe even from day one, but I'm really not so sure if it will become a viable plattform to sell games on.

After this gen, I personally see the cards being dealt anew. I could see Sony actually making a huge comeback next gen. They really have nothing to lose, and if they manage to bring a compelling and reasonably priced PS4 to the market I know that many gamers would be more than willing to jump on.

It's ok. I know that feel :P

I can search through LinkedIn with my account, but what's this 30-day trial for anyways? Sorry to be a bit off-topic.

Haha.

But the trial gives me a Premium account. Out of the things I care about I can do full profile searches that I couldn't do before with the basic service. I'm seeing things I couldn't see before. Surprisingly high amount of hits for Wii U.

Its hard to say if they will cover them all fully. Nintendo at least will have a smooth stream

Oh I see. I'm going to see if I can get a trial too. Wouldn't mind doing a bit of snooping myself :P

Indeed there are quite a few. Wonder what the Sega PSN/XBLA/Wii U game is

Interested due to CFW, hence why the software sales were so low compared to the hardware sales.

Considering that both of the days they have live coverage advertised for start at 9am on the days of the console maker conferences, I'd think that's the game plan.

I would not exactly call ~300 million units of software sold as "fails to move software". Naturally it could be better of course, and it is much less than what the total amount of DS software sold, but ~300 million is still a lot on its own. The PSP is also Sony's first attempt on making a portable gaming system.

I know what you mean, but i think it is worth mentioning that you can still buy both PSP hardware and software, so the business is still alive in that sense.

There is also different levels/grades of success. This is what started this discussion, that if the WiiU doesnt reach or beat the same level of success as the Wii had, then the WiiU would be seen as a failure. For others, it can still be defined as a success. I think it is exactly the same with the PSP. It completely depends on exactly where one put the bar, and how one defines what success is. It is somewhat subjective actually since people have different definition of what success is, so it can be hard to argue about it in an objective way. All people can do is say why they think a system is succesful or not, then it is up to others to agree or disagree with that :)

I agree that this generation might not have much impact of what the next generation will look like in terms of sales. As someone mentioned earlier, i dont think that many people really care that much about the brand if the experience is really interesting. Since we know nothing about PS4 and Xbox 720, everything can happen.

CFW is most likely a noticeable reason for the hardware sales indeed. This is also relates to the hardware, that the combination of the PSP hardware and CFW was a good thing. Emulators on the PSP is suppose to be really great i've heard just to take one example.

I'm really starting to think there will not be any game manuals packaged with Wii U games. There's no reason that manuals won't be viewable on the Wii U controller itself. I'm going to miss the smell new game manuals. RIP game manuals.

If they do this, it will be VERY interesting to see how it pans out. If they can offer TV services rivaling cable along with it, it might not be a big leap for people to switch. They can get their TV content, controller-less control, high end gaming and online services.

I'm not convinced people would go for it, especially since separate services such as hulu+ and netflix would require their own separate subscriptions.

1)  Price? $299 no bundled game

2)  Release date? November

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 3x

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? New Wii U IPs, F-zero/Wave Race/1080 return

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Videochat appearance using Wii U screen

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? sequels and apps abound

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? We have to test with our 30fps 720p no AA old 360/PS3 game before you can get our latest game.

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? Will be in class at that time

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Wii U is stop gap console so why bother.

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Online isn't detailed and fully ready at launch. Nintendo lets third parties spam the system with old 360/PS3 games.

You can always buy a lot of older games and open one copy whenever you buy a WiiU game to get the smell hehe ;) (i also like the smell of a new game).

A well-made manual is something that's become really rare. Long gone are the days when we had something like this.

Baldur%27s_Gate_II_-_Shadows_of_Amn_Coverart.png

I can't think of one at the moment but I know there were a few games that had really good manuals. I'm also going to miss paper maps that some games come with.

I shit you not, I bought a few new sealed SNES games a few months ago to open and smell them :(

They'll probably keep the quick start guides that they use for the 3DS.

In some ways I hope digital manuals would encourage other developers to put some effort into them again since they won't have to worry about printing costs.

The worst smell I have ever experiences from a game is the limited edition HotD:OK comic. I should check to see if it still smells.

I can already see interactive digital manuals. Those would be awesome. Nintendo kind of already started doing digital manuals or help screens with Virtual Console games.

Hehe, cool =) The smell is something special, so i know the feeling.

It's like an addiction now.

I'd buy one for gaming manuals or brand new trading cards. You don't know how great it is.

At least the reach of the controller might allow you to look at it in the toilet

...
Something like BioShock is an excellent example of a non-Gears/Call of Duty game that appeals very strongly to the mass market. It's a game that hooked many new gamers this generation. If you look at how Prime operates, they're alarmingly similar. The use similar concepts and similar thematics to draw the player into the experience. Only Prime came about last generation, and on a system struggling to sell in the West. A lot of what made BioShock so appealing (excellent graphical presentation, audio recording, proper dual analogue controls, etc) wasn't available.
...

Keep dual analogue away from my Primes, please D:

Kinda wish Koei would make a new PTO game for the Wii U. Tablet could be used for alot of the micromanagement stuff while the action is on the TV

It's probably a combination of guess work and some insider retailer knowledge. By no means a definitive list.

Would be underwhelming if real, no megaton game listed. I will continue assuming it's fake, only a month till E3 anyway + blockbuster is irrelevant, why would they know?

Haha, i was actually thinking about this. I knew that such thing excisted for new-car-smell, but i wasnt sure about for other products.

It's like an addiction now.
Hehe, well, even without the manual, the plastic from the disc and box will probably still have some of that new smell to it. I can live without it, but i do enjoy the feeling/smell of opening a new game =)

Just got it before the replies. XD

So of note I see (must be one title) Raving Rabbids Party Land, Splinter Cell 6, Monster Party, F1 All -Stars, Sports Connection, ZOMBIE, Damaged Connsoles (wut), and Marvel Super Heroes.

Edit: *GASP* I get first post on a new page?! SQUEE!!! XD

He can't because ********** is banned. Try typing in **********. You'll see that typing ********** won't work hence his URL gives you a hint on where to go.

challenge accepted:

go nintendo.com (no spaces)

Im doing my essay all day; any news today except for that games list?

Coming from another thread about E3 previews, it seems like the others (MS especially) are doing a pretty good job of playing The Low Expectations Game for their conferences.

The idea of dashboard and Kinect updates being the baseline features for a conference, while absolutely hilarious, means that anything above that level carries a potentially large wow factor, depending on how far MS were to decide to go.

I'm getting more and more antsy about what Final Surprises Nintendo has in store for its E3 conference. We hear that there may be one more feature to the console that we don't know about.. I hope Nintendo is loaded and ready.

I think I saw over 100 hits when I searched for Wii U. Seeing that info about Killer Freaks gives me extra hope.

Interesting. I look forward to seeing what else I can find.

The Sega game is being done by Gearbox too alongside Colonial Marines. so we know they are being kept busy

I think I'd laugh more than anything else. Then, I'd go onto google for some sort of cute popcorn gif. The reactions would probably be almost as fun as the game itself.

Isn't this technically Rosy Rupeeland 2?
