heh Lost Planet spinoff coming to 3ds ;d
I think that was a typo. It's for PS360.
/dial is the codename for google voice on Wii U, which runs android 4.0 obviously. Import all your contacts from your android phone in a snap!
Nah, I think an analogue dial is much more likely.
In addition to the app functionality, spinning the dial could add a whole new dimension to game control like nothing we've imagined.

Who gives a shit about what console graphics whores (lol) think? What we should be concerned about are the games, how much Nintendo will be able to differentiate itself from the competition through other means with the new controller and their online piece.

Most of us just wanted a solid system that is powerful enough to get downscaled ports from the next MS and Sony platforms later in its life cycle.

Last time I checked, BG and others have confirmed the above many times in these threads. What's with the crying all of a sudden?

Very well said.

All you need to do is look at the Zelda and Japanese Garden tech demos, see that they're both beyond anything that the PS3 and 360 are capable of in real-time, remember that said tech demos were running on underclocked alpha dev kits and relax.

You should also remember that we won't see any titles using the extra power afforded by the PS4 and 720 until around the end of 2014, during which time developers would have got to grips with U development and will be able to push the hardware more. You may have a sharp increase in the difference of eye candy quality by 2015 but by then the U will be more than halfway through its lifespan.

We really don't have anything to worry about.

IdeaMan, was just wondering...does the DRC have rumble..? The DRCs at various shows haven't had a rumble feature and I have to say I am getting a wee bit concerned about it.

I'm not him, but I've heard that it will indeed have rumble. The feature is also listed on Nintendo's Wii U site under the system details page.

This thread hasn't been much fun lately. I think you predicted this dark age Tom.
This, too, shall pass. We'll be quite content in under three weeks!

Lots of tech talk and pessimism.

Companies aren't always trying to wall themselves up in their gardens. If Skype proliferates, that is a good thing for MS.

Hammer... that you?

PS: BGassassin, any reason for the sudden hype? New info found its way into your ears/eyes? Or do you just need some sleep (or attention)?

PPS in EDIT: such lifelike graphics, hope WiiU can pull this stuff off!

I don't think they're in any position to confirm that right now.

Just can't see the other two taking a loss again. I don't think anyone should be too concerned about significantly downscaled ports.

Who says they have to take losses to make consoles much stronger? At 399 they could sell without losing money, and create something that will probably be notably stronger than the WiiU.

Not to the point where ports can't happen, but just saying. People shouldn't think that PS4/720 aren't going to be powerhouses. They won't be OMGWTFFFFFFFFF but they'll be acceptable generational leaps while the wiiU will be somewhere on the lower end of their spectrum. Not that I'm saying it matters, just sayin'.

I hear you. Just wondering if they've actually learned anything from this gen from Nintendo. About being profitable day one. I'd wager at least one of them will try it; more likely Sony.

Didn't know the Vita had Skype. That changes things.

I think the best option (for us) would be for Nintendo to generally have their own streaming protocol for VOIP between their own devices (which they can leverage for Tom's much-wanted "see a stream of what your friend is playing now" feature) but have a compatibility layer for other protocols when needed.

As much as I would like that to happen, I feel as if Nintendo is going work with an external company to do all the streaming protocol stuff for their VOIP.

Summary of last 127 pages please?

I'm guessing that you really mean the last 63.5 pages.

It's been… really weak in terms of actual news compared to the same period in Thread IV. I've padded it with not actual news a little. Still, we got some game announcement (generally indy downloadables), interesting stuff about the future of microtransactions in Japan, a jillion patents, cloud storage, PPV content, and some pretty lolish sounding rumoured leaks.

me said:
#5018: Reminder: V5 devkit noted to see single digit fps increase in a "famous engine". Also, V5 shipment to third parties delay clarified to be about 5 weeks

#5135: Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency launched an investigation about the legality of [a certain type of microtransaction]

#5226: Wii U trademarks have been approved in the United States.

#5305: Additional Linkedin-based confirmation of Reflections Wii U support

#5422: Bit.Trip Runner 2 obvious tease

#5818: Square-Enix apparently showing intent to port Final Fantasy XIV (bringing up the confirmed+rumoured Wii U MMO count to three)

#5988: Ubisoft announces Avengers: Battle for the Earth for Wii U (and Kinect), quickly retracts Wii U mention

#6034: Indie game Cloudberry Kingdom announced for Wii U

#6042: Patent diagram depicting Wii U golf demo from E3'11

#6050: Patent diagram of smaller Wii U controller (not the same diagrams as in #584) with analog sticks instead of sliders and a backside without shelf and with sharper triggers (exposed in #6076 as being actually from last August)

#6094: Newly published patent document, contains earlier mentioned images plus explanatory text

#6618: Tales of games being considered for Wii U

#6776: Confirmation that Killer Freaks from Outer Space supports online multiplayer (#6810 shows its actual earliest confirmation was in E3'11)

#6817: apparent imagery from a GlobalTestMarket survey

#7104: Rumours: Crytek developing example demo (a Crysis 3 level) on Wii U but not a game. Allegedly runs well (on par with high-level PC version, superior in aspects to PS3/360) with DX9 effects at 720p with FXAA (no TXAA). In this devkit, streaming to the controller is "always on".

#7173: "Konami canceled a project. I don't know what it is, but it was Wii U and digital."

#7183: Hint of streaming PPV-style content to Wii U (Ace Attorney movie wat)

#7461: Article on "About Your Shape 2013" for Wii U

#8016: Nintendo's Tadashi Sugiyama (F-Zero X, Ice Climbers, Doki Doki Panic, Wii Fit) involved in a Wii U project

#8725: The Hardest Platformer Ever will be downloadable on Wii U.

#9101: Hiphopgamer claims Splinter Cell 6 for Wii U

#9317: IM: Most recent devkits contain 3 cores, as was rumoured around E3'11

#9356: Linkedin reveals that Wii U gpu design began in 2009

#9521: new rumor about Wii U possibly getting Cloud storage in 2013.

#10071: Reggie claims Zelda demo is 1080p (more of a question-dodging there)

#10250: FIFA 13 confirmed for Wii U

#10301: (aside) interesting flowchart of third party developers

#10317: heaping load of bul— I mean, poster from mmo-champion.com suggests Wii U uses quad core processor and Radeon 5850 (~2TFLOPS gpu desktop, 0.8-1.0 TFLOPS mobile model); BurntPork promises to make out with hobo if true (#10319)

#10603: Ben10: Omniverse announced for Wii U

#10776: Capcom to have no playable Nintendo games at E3

#10824: Ubisoft seeks to capitalize on 'social game benefits' of next-gen consoles

Anihawk got it. Even if Wii U isn't on par PS4 and Xbox 3, Wii to Wii U will arguably be the biggest console jump we've EVER seen.

A console with 20th century hardware and 88MB of system memory and 3MB of eDRAM gave us great looking games like SMG, Xenoblade, DKCR, etc. Now we're going to see a console that obliterates it.

I'm doing some LinkedIn diving right now so I'll be back later with some things I found.

alright I'm going back to diablo 3, when I come back I expect many newses and rumours and leakz. Thank you.

Okay gents, here's where I'm at with the Wii U:

I've realized that I use my 360 and PS3 less for games, and more for the multimedia aspect now. After dealing with various apps for my 360 including Netflix, Hulu+ and HBO Go, I'm frustrated with the user interface. I hate having to browse a catalog or search letter by letter using a remote. It's cumbersome and antiquated at this point.

So I guess what I'm saying is if Nintendo and Netflix/Hulu/HBO/etc. can make apps available at launch and make them more user friendly, so you can browse a Netflix library on the Upad while having a movie playing already on the TV, or launch a different app at the same time like being able to browse the internet concurrently while watching something on Hulu (something I'm guilty of doing on my iPad a LOT) then already, I'm interested. If Nintendo comes through and makes it super easy to do their Skype-ing thing, like where you have a unified friends list and when they're on you literally click their name and can dial them to talk, I'm in.

Honestly, as I'm getting older, this is the stuff that appeals to me the most now. Yeah I'm still a Nintendo fanboy and get excited over the prospect of Pikmin 3, but after I beat the game, I want the streaming/video apps to work the best they can, and Nintendo is in a unique position to make it happen with the Upad. Here's hoping they're thinking that too.

*ahem*

The only big leap I can think of off the bat is from the Atari XEGS to the Jaguar, going from a 1.8 MHz 6502C processor with 64KB RAM to a combination of 13.3MHz CPU, 26.6MHz GPU and 26.6MHz DSP with 2048KB RAM.

A 3100% increase in RAM and bump from the least expensive microprocessor design from 1975 to a top of the line CPU/GPU/DSP combo from 1994 makes your Wii→Wii U transition look like a mild overclock with racing stripes drawn on.

Hm. Who are the big wigs other than Microsoft in this arena?

Honestly, I have no clue. I would assume they'd work with a much smaller company to do the job. I'll probably look into this a bit more once finals are over. I'm working on my assembly final right now and it's killing me.

Ain't it great?

I think bg just gave us the antidote to all of that unnecessary doom'n'gloom we've been belching-out over the past few days. Feels fantastic, man. Can't wait to see some games! Hell, I'm ready to see their on-stage demos of that pad and get some good laughs along the way.

I think it's almost time to start my pre-E3 spring cleaning..

The system RAM alone could be at least 15X that of the Wii's and I think the flops number was potentially something like 20X.

That's insane. Insane.

I can't imagine what it'd be like to be a long-term Nintendo developer - to go from something that is so limiting to something that must feel completely free.

I thought more people had already realized this. It really is an exciting thought.
So I got bored and felt like using photoshop, so I liked the creativity Wii U photoshops done way way earlier about box designs and system colors. So I decided to make my own box.
Not really digging the angled cut away, perhaps if you put a rounded corner on it instead. Otherwise, it's neat.

Thanks for that list.

But what about this: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articl...s-next-gen-will-be-very-viable-and-profitable

Part of Ubisoft's success is expected to come from Nintendo's Wii U, launching at the end of this year. Ubisoft is a very strong supporter and is quite bullish on Wii U. The company will have five casual titles and two core titles. Guillemot pointed to the Avengers game slated for Wii U (and Kinect) as a title that should do very well with the casual market.

I still don't get why the doom and gloom happened in the first place...
We've know what the Wii U was basically going to be since E3. Nothing's changed in the past day.
