The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

So...without combing through the review do any of them mention what kind of save system it has? I just hope it's not a quicksave\save anywhere kinda game.

It's an open world RPG. Of course it's save anywhere game, aside from in combat.

Credits to Bloodworth:

3 checkpoint slots for quest progression, 2 auto save slots for stuff like fast travel, 10 manual save slots (on PS4)
Manual saving is still encouraged if you're roaming around a lot though.

Edit: I hope the PC version isn't going to be gimped by the total number of 15. I mean, it's disturbing enough that GTAV PC has only 15 slots.

Well in Witcher 2 I had hundreds if not thousands of saves by the end. I'm sure they'll stick to normal PC RPG saving convention. Keeping a large backup of saves is often important when you run into certain bugs.

Though I had to to go into the save directory many times to remove old saves, because the more save files you have, the slower the save/load menu became. I wouldn't mind a way to keep save files down this time, maybe by way of an actual save menu with selection. In W2 you just hit the save button and it made a new save automatically.

eh...wish they would have done something different...I hate having to manually save during free roam.

What else could hey have done? Without check points for auto save you need manual saves if you want free roam to work properly.

Quick save on PC is a godsend though. They should add it to console RPGs and allow users to hook up a keyboard just for this feature alone (and typing, of course).

Just have a giant button on the floor you can stomp everytime you want to save.

lol

How do you quickload? Another giant button for your other foot? A choo-choo train horn hanging from the ceiling?

I always thought, especially in ports where the mechanic is already in the game, they should just add like a multi button system. Hold down a certain button or trigger and press another button to quicksave/load. It'd be a lot simpler than hooking up a large keyboard and keeping it on your lap, though that's exactly what I do for those game on my couch PC, for the typing of course.

I think he's more likely asking for a constant save system like GTA where if you die while free roaming you just wake up at the nearest village healer's hut rather than reloading a save.

There is the Stinky Footboard

A giant 4 button footpedal.

Holy shit, I totally missed the reviews coming out for this one, wasn't expecting it this early.

It's weird, I'm very excited for the game, but the reviews don't make me more excited. I'm finally at the point where I just don't trust them. I think it was DA:I that did it.

I expected this game to be great, though, and I still do.

I guess similar to GTAV's. I only manual save if Im about to quit...otherwise Im free to explore without having to worry about saving since I know that if I die my exploration progress doesnt get reset.

If you could just maybe wake up in the closet town or camp upon death then that would be a bit better I guess.

I don't know the perfect solution but it isn't to stop what im doing every 5 minutes in order to navigate a menu system in order to save my game out of fear of losing a lot of progress.

They could always integrate Save/Reload Gesturesᵀᴹ with Kinect

Just don't make the load gesture anything common. Accidentally quickloading is just stupid.

I don't own either new console, doesn't the Xbox One have voice recognition? Just say Quicksave/Quickload.

Edit: Then your little brother sneaks into the room and yells out quickload! to fuck with you.

Holy shit!
Either that is fucking huge, or the dudes a fucking midget.

*heavy breathing*...
Shit, i just realized i selected Express for my Collectors Edition. There's no way that would get to my place overnight.
I'm actually worried now that mine will get here after the release date.

EDIT: Just realized he most likely is holding it away from him and towards the Camera, Witch craft to the eyes....lol

Man I hope after this they do a Witcher series mega box with all 3 games and shit in it.

A higher texture Witcher 1 would be amazing.

Are you talking about for the consoles or something? Because there have been higher resolution texture packs for the first game for over five years.

Didn't EE just rebalance game while combat mechanics themselves were left intact? TW3 supposedly is just more polished TW2 combat.

Not totally sure, I believe it was the Polygon review that said that the combat was less engaging. Maybe that was because apparently the default difficulty is a little easier than Witcher 2. I did see that you are stunned when hit, which I like. It didn't feel like when they patched that out of Witcher 2. It felt like a god of war game where you're just button mashing.

Does the PC version of the Witcher 3 have a world sim? Like where you get to pick choices from 1 and 2 before starting a fresh run on 3?

I find it strange that I can have zero interest in a game that's reviewing so brilliantly. What's wrong with me. I even normally don't mind the genre.

I don't one an X1, but I think voice can be used in that way.

& lol yeah, the poorly timed, unintentional quickload is the absolute shits

I'm hesitant to say HD remake but if they could somehow remake Witcher 1 with Witcher 3 engine tech..

That would be ridiculously awesome. Witcher 1 remade in the Witcher 3 engine, Witcher 2 remastered so it's up to the same bar as 3 and you have one of the best trilogies of all time.

I had no interest in the game prior to trying out The Witcher 2. If you haven't already, you should give it a shot.

I hope so too. Major chain like Walmart breaking street date could force CDPR to pull trigger on early release.

You know what to do Walmart!

While possible, their register wouldn't allow check out in store before street date. Shipping error to customer is possible though.

From the Amazon stream: on Hard+ difficulty, there will be a lot less map markers (you will have to figure out the location of various quests on your own) and meditation won't replenish health.
