The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt - E3 2014 Trailer - The Sword Of Destiny

This gives me hope that a next gen Red Dead Redemption could be one of the most amazing Western themed games ever.
It's funny you mention RDR, because the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that scene was exactly that game. I hope CDPR took atleast some notes from Rockstar... just imagine freeroaming in that world RDR style!
Also, decapitations and ranged weapons confirmed, fuck yeah!

It's amazing what a talented team of developers can achieve withthout the support of bigfish publisher and overblown marketing campaigns.

Hmm Nilfgardian king never specifies if he's talking about CIri (who is shown when he is talking about a woman), or Yennefer.

Did they say what PC you need to run this thing 1080p 60fps?
I have 780Ti but judging from that trailer I dont think its gonna be enough.

Well, depends on what you mean by "enough". I would imagine that an SLI rig would be required for 1080p/60 with ubersampling and every single setting at its very highest.

With that said, I'd be shocked if a single 780 Ti couldn't run the game at 1080p/60 without ubersampling and maybe just a couple of other settings downticked one notch. Game will still look damned amazing.

If your expectation on a PC is that you need to be able to play every cutting-edge game at 1080p/60 at the possible highest settings with downsampling and the fanciest AA, you'd better keep your credit cards handy, because you're going to be spending a fuckton of money year upon year.

From the hidden message:
"Geralt's close friends and some of the last witchers remaining in the world. Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert will play a big part in the game, as well as their famous fortress, Kaer Morhen."

Where was the hidden message this time?

Overall this looks pretty amazing, and I can't wait, but the character models are honestly not very impressive compared to what we've seen in some already released games. Of course, those games don't do the massive environments this one is doing, but still.

He is talking about Ciri. You would know if you read the books.

So can someone tell me who the grey haired woman is without telling me who she's killed or what she's done in the books? Just a name and perhaps her relevance to other characters? I'm curious.

It is Ciri, Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon in full. Adoptive daughter of Geralt and Yennefer, princess's Pavetta's daughter.
She trained to be basically a witcher herself and the books are in large part about her. Complete bad ass with some almost supernatural powers, since she is the Source (of magic or whatnot).

Witcher 2 Spoilers:
Doesn't Letho tell you at the end of the game that Yennifer was captured by Nilfgard?

Yes he does. I presume, not having read the books, the king is talking about Yennifer.

Oh ok thanks. I know of Ciri just didn't expect her, when she eventually showed up, to have grey hair.

Yeah, damn. I haven't been excited for a game in a long while, but I just sat through that trailer for the third time and I figuratively cannot wait.

So...now that it's obvious I'll be getting this (wow at that trailer) is it worth it for me to go back and pick up Witchers 1 and 2 on PS3 or 360?

Didn't they said that they will give refund for that case in their livestream ?

If you buy it digitally on GOG, then they'll give you a refund.

If you're buying the physical collector's edition from another retailer, though, there's not much CD Projekt Red can do. Bandai Namco's handling the physical stuff.

Well, the only console version of any Witcher game is The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition on the 360, which is supposed to be a really good port. On PC, they're sold at a reasonable price on GOG, which is kind of the obvious place to buy them; I'm sure they'll sell them during a sale at a steep discount in the future, too.

I don't think W1 ever released for consoles.

I played W2 on PC, but I can't imagine the console experience is significantly worse. You sacrifice framerate and graphics, but get the same excellent gameplay and superbly crafted world.

i attemped both recently. witcher 1 was too dated for my tastes but the witcher 2 is great so far. id love to play it with oculus rift. the world is so detailed.

He talks about "she is back" and
"chosen one"
which means Ciri. There's also no reason for the Wild Hunt to go after Yennefer.

Fucking hell, that looks incredible.

I'm running a pretty good PC right now, but I'm willing to make any hardware upgrades necessary to play this in its full glory.

She had ashen hair since childhood as described in the books.

Both are fantastic, but get PC versions if you can. TW1 is PC only, TW2 is much better on PC.
In fact trying to bring TW1 to fucking consoles almost bankrupted CDP. Thank god they survived.

Witcher 1 is only on PC.
Witchet 2 is not on PS3.

Are the games worth it? For the story they definitely are.
If you could somehow play them on PC you can import the save file of the first game into the sequel to carry over items and gear from the first game, which is pretty neat.

I don't like how CDPR wants to sell a Triss as some whore...

I honestly dislike her.She was annoying in TW2.
Sex sells so that's most likely why it's in the trailer. But I found Triss was a pretty good character in TW2. In TW1 she was kind of an asshole

Witcher 1 is pretty dated but act 2 was so fun. That mystery plot had a lot of entertaining moments

Witcher 2 should be fine to dive into. Go with team Roche

Graphically it looks way improved over last year's trailer. I hope they can deliver on the scale of the world while making things feel hand crafted and substantial.

This was probably mentioned already but the king is voiced by Twyin (Charles Dance) right?

This game is going to be fantastic, hopefully it could be titled the Skyrim of RPGs!

GAF, have ye any thoughts on the identity of the king Geralt is speaking to? Or is it the Nilfgaardian Emperor?

There has to be a flashback scene at some point because at the start of the trailer you hear "there was once many of us" and this is definitely Vesemir and Eskel.

My take on it: early in the trailer they show a keep that looks very similar to Caer Morhen; since we never heard what happened to the other Witchers that dispersed from there, I think there is a good chance we'll see all of them again!

I say this because, while playing TW1, I kept thinking I'd bump into each of them during my quest, but alas it never happened.

So...now that it's obvious I'll be getting this (wow at that trailer) is it worth it for me to go back and pick up Witchers 1 and 2 on PS3 or 360?

TW1 never made it to consoles - in fact, the console port nearly sunk CD Projekt. (The third-party porting it was bleeding CDPR dry.)

Because TW1 is only on PCs, I'd recommend playing on PC so you can import your Witcher saves. The TW1 > TW2 transition works well, it will give you the exact items you had at the end of the game so you can start with some extra stuff. I believe the ending is also reflecting, though I'm not 100% sure. Witcher 3 ought to have the same feature, which should enhance the game significantly. Basically, CDPR do a very good job of making save imports worthwhile, and it really feels like you're importing your Geralt.

But, but diminishing returns...

If we had consoles that could give us those quality of graphics without compromises... - that would be a real next gen jump.

However seeing those graphics i would be ok with a 720p PS4 version to invest all the rest of the resources into all the other great stuff.

Not that I want to start a technical discussion, but boy! Now I can understand this game being only 900p (supposedly) on PS4. This game is just extraordinaly beautiful.

Ok, I'm in. This is the most impressive looking ever. Let's see how it will run on PS4 since I certainly don't own a PC powerfull enough to run graphics like this!

People stop recommending Roche. He is awesome sure, but Iorveth's path is lot better for first playthrough. It has Saskia. And Vergen.
Roche is awesome for second playthrough.
