I just have a question : when you read go to read signs with quests on them, do you accept the quest when you pick up the paper? because it doesn't update my quest log...

Those notice boards don't always give quests. They reveal "?" on your map and some give you monster-hunt quests. Some notes are just for a bit of backstory about the town you are in.

When you're overburdened and want to lose weigh, dropping leathers won't do anything at all. Not sure with other ingredients.

This is because an item in your inventory weighs what it says it does regardless of how many you have in the stack.

1 wolf hide and 1000 wolf hides weigh the same amount. Goofy, but nice in a way that it's not being picky.

so just bought the game, im really enjoying so far (and the combat is hard, I love it)

Most of the notices just make the ?s appear on the map, only a few are actual quests

Well, remember that Yen and Geralt were both taken by Ciri, and Triss was there, so it wouldn't be such a huge leap of logic to assume that if Geralt came back to life, then Yen also did. She wasn't necessarily conspiring against Yen, but it did put me off in the first Witcher how there was absolutely no mention of Yen the entire game.

The first game was written with a different intent i.e. it was less about continuing the series but rather starting afresh. If I recall correctly the first games wasn't even supposed to have Geralt as the main character. They changed it based on feedback.

But it used to work. I dropped like 40 of them and didn't even lose 1 kilo.

Yeah. They're 0.01 each. So you would've lost 0.4 units of weight. :p Frankly I'm a lot happier with this than how it was in Witcher 2, where crafting mats rapidly accumulated to enormous weight. Granted, you can't just drop a bunch of iron ore to lighten your load like you could in the last game, but that's just because it doesn't significantly weigh you down in the first place.

No, each individual version of every item that's in your inventory definitely add to your weight. If one goat hide weighs 0.25 then two goat hide weigh 0.50.

Most of the weight problems come from the "trash" tab. Go dismantle all those pelts and shit because you probably have like 7kg of each type

It doesn't seem so much like active conspiracy as it seems like convenient, willing, passive ignorance.

But it makes fans of the books really dislike Triss. Triss from the books would immediately jump at the idea of Yennefer being back after seeing Geralt. The fact that she withheld information from Geralt up until the point of no return when he starter getting back his memory made me really dislike her.

Correct. It was originally going to be a create-a-witcher game with Geralt as an NPC, more like Diablo than the Witcher series we know and love. Bonus: One of the former devs has some gameplay footage of the original prototype.
Double Bonus: The Witcher was almost made years ago by an entirely different company.

I'd say the entire affair worked out rather well, all things considered.

The more I play, the less impressive it is getting for me :(

What's everyone's favorite quest (name only, no spoilers) so I can look ahead to something?

If you weren't impress with ladies in the wood / bloody baron then I (we?) can't help you. Guess the game just isn't for you

All of the Triss personal quests. But that's cause I'm a team triss nut.
I'm on the Triss ones now so I'll see how they go

That's the problem. I am many hours past that one, which I liked, and I'm not enjoying the repeating NPCs and such.

hey man

i just want to let you know

i feel like an idiot

my buddy says he saw a level 90 earth elemental very early on in the game but i'm not actually sure how legit it is. i want to believe it though.

Thats impossible. I believe there is a threshold where a creature too high above you will just be "??". I think its maybe ten levels.

You sure? I swore I dropped 12 white wolf hides and didn't lose x12 weight when I watched.

I just like the emotion the character's faces display and how real the discussion of relationships was.

The item's weight listed in your inventory is for the entire stack. Drop half of it and you'll see it reduce to half its value. It's unfortunate how it's displayed though, especially since right beside that is the sell value, which shows both the value for individual items and in brackets for the stack as a whole.

In regards to the whole Familiy Matters main quest and a potentially 'better' ending:
I've read several reports that you can save both the orphans and Anna if you set free the tree spirit from the ancient oak before receiving the Whispering Hillock quest from the crones. Apparently by doing the quest out of order the spirit will take vengeance on Dunharrow, free the children(they end up in Marabella's school for orphans in Novigradand), Anna still winds up insane but the Baron will take her to the blue mountains looking for a cure instead of hanging himself. Can anyone confirm this?

Okay, this is a really late response, but I dug this post up with the search function. I was confused about this whole thing too after reading about the other outcomes that didn't match mine. I basically did the same thing.
I found the tree before going to Dunharrow
.

Am I glad the way this turned out, this whole thing was already depressing enough.

Baron reminded me so much of Robert Baratheon in GOT. I was always on his side because of it. Gonna help him one last time and let that be that.

Lord I've had this game for what, nearly 2 weeks and I have yet to walk out of Velen. Hell when I look at the Velen map there are still many dozens of ? Everywhere and other quests to be done.

This game truly is massive. And these quests are quite satisfying. Really makes the world seem full of absolute mystery and some downright comedy like the Allgod

So that is in fact the way it works?
You can actually get a reasonable happy ending, without the deaths of the village, the orphans, or the Baron and his wife? Colour me surprised.

Came upon a level 15 nightwraith at a guarded treasure POI while level 9. I just had to try taking it on, and the best I did was taking off 2/3's of its health but then I ran out of good healing items and I think my sword broke or was close to doing so. If I had more food items on me, I probably would have beat it but I think I'm just going to save it for later. Anyway, I think that my general strategy was pretty good. I'm going to spoiler it in case others want to figure out how to fight one on their own.

[Nightwraith spoiler]
Since it could 2-shot me and often does 2-hit combos, I used a noonwraith decoction (casts Quen when an attack does 1/3+ your health) to not die when it got a hit on me due to occasional changes in its attack rhythm, going invisible, or whatever reasons. The bombs I had were useless on it so I opted for maximal food/drink healing. I couldn't cast Quen myself since I needed to save my stamina to cast Yrden which is basically required for this fight. It splits up like the noonwraith to regain health so you need to take them out quickly, possibly with the crossbow if they're at a distance. I tried to get it stuck between me and a wall so that I could continuously wail away on it.

Fun fight for the challenge. I recorded it for kicks so you can see how that went:

By the way, is it known how much each food/drink item actually heals? That was my first time using drinks and they seem to suck compared to food.

EDIT: Okay, had to reinstall AMD Gaming Evolved. I didn't reinstall it when I upgraded to the newest beta drivers. I only noticed something was wrong with this video in this post which was 21 fps, roughly half my actual framerate. Seems fine now.

Wait people thought that weight was for 1 item? Or am I missing something?

It's pretty obvious it's for the stack, I always drop like 5 just to shave off 2kg or so. Not trying to be a dick but I thought it was obvious from the start :/

I'm sure this has been posted already but if this enlightens anyone else, it's worth it. Wow.

Quests in your log are reordered based on proximity. (Thanks reddit)

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Game's not for you. And that's fine. But I doubt you'll get much out of it at this point if repeating NPCs are part of the frustration.

It's the most logical behaviour, but the UI doesn't make it 100% clear unless you bother to check. Misunderstandings happen! He gets to be one of today's Lucky 10000! Except it's not as cool as Mentos and Coke.

That's amazing and I love it. Thanks for sharing this.

Man, I hope the XP patch hits soon. Only major issue I've had with the game and Far Cry 4 and Destiny DLC just aren't scratching the itch.

I think so? I really have no idea how there was a middle ground between outcomes. I almost thought it was a bug or something. Perhaps there's some other event that triggers this besides doing it out of order.
The Baron took his wife to the hermit, but the village ends up slaughtered.

Made it to Novigrad a few days ago. I have some quests available in Skellige too. Would you recommend hitting up Skellige right away or should I wait? Is it better to mix up quests and keep visiting multiple locations? I guess that's a preference thing.
